Well, in just under two weeks we leave for WDW!:) I am getting really excited, but also have been getting a little frightened about the food situation. So, I decided it's high time to drop the fear and get a game plan. I am here to elicit help from my wonderful WISHers! I have decided to be realistic and my goal is to maintain my weight while there. I have been eating 1200 calories a day, but think I can probably eat about 1800-2000 calories per day while at WDW and, with all of the walking, maintain. We will get a grocery stop, with our towncar transfer, so I was thinking about eating protein bars or fruit for all breakfasts (except one), before we head off to the parks. We do have PS as follows:

Breakfast: Boma
Lunch: Mama Melrose, Mother's Day Brunch @ EPCOT
Dinner: 'Ohana, Narcoossee's, LTT, Brown Derby, Boma, Wolfgang Puck's Cafe

I am going to try and forgo desserts, altogether, or maybe just have a bite or two from DH's/DS's. I also know I will need to really watch portions, and probably not eat all I am served. Beyond that, I am looking for tips from you guys. What are some good healthy eating options at WDW? What are some of your favorites? What else should I do, or not do, to ensure I don't "pack on the pounds"?

Thanks!
Linda

Hi Linda,

I am following the Atkins plan (Alex's challenge this week). We stay at OKW so I am able to follow the plan fairly well (I did say FAIRLY well).

I try to fill up on foods that are allowed on my diet and usually always cheat when it comes to desserts!! I find if I have a big breakfast I am good for most oof the day.

One thing that bothers me is that the fruit is so good in the summer and DH and my 3 DD's always buy alot at Publix!! It smells so good and I just try to stick to strawberries!!

Even though i get a lot of walking while at WDW, I try to at least walk OKW grounds early in the am when everyone is sleeping or if really hot, I go on the treadmill!!

Good luck..........

We work so hard for so long, losing the weight. Then comes the vacation, the holidays, celebrations. We need to learn to live with these events, not stress over them. But you know that. You have a plan, and that's great! Do what you can where you can, but don't sit on the sideline of dessert if it's going to eat at you! I guess what I'm trying to say is, Enjoy your well deserved vacation! You're not going to gain 10 pounds while there. Work your plan, watch those portions, have fun, you'll do great!

blanq,
I'll probably be there when you are. We leave for the cruise on May 4th and then get to WDW on the 8th. The cruise has me a bit nervous! I barely fit into my shorts as it is!!! I'm going to have to keep moving and hit the spa workout room to keep from gaining!! I'm thinking not a lot of walking on the ship and I don't swim, I sink or bob. :)
I plan on eating whatever I want, just in moderation. Too many good foods at the World that I *must* have. But I'll be happy just taking a bite or two of someone elses and not getting a whole thing for myself. I'm also going to try to drink much more water, whereas I'm usually sipping on a Coke (not diet)

Typically, we eat like kings at Disney with priority seating meals every day. We went for 12 days once, ate like pigs, but with all the walking I gained 1/2 pound!! :)

Where are you staying? Maybe I'll bump into you! :)

I'm really proud of you for thinking ahead and making a plan. What a great example you are for me!

I don't count calories so it would definitely be easy for me to eat anywhere at WDW. All I have to do is avoid the refined carbohydrates and I'll be okay.

In your case, I think you should just make the best choices you can and have as much fun as possible.

You don't want to be really extremely extravagant with your food intake but you don't want to obsess over it to the point of spoiling your trip either.

Sounds like you have a good plan in place. Are you getting excited about your trip? Or should I ask, more excited about your trip?
