going to mexico where to stay

we are wanting to go to Mexico, but i was wondering if anyone can help me of where to stay? id like to use interval and swap my disney for a week, but dont klnow how the accomadations are. Has anyone stayed at any of the Interval locations? any help ? thanks

Do a search for the Royals or Cancun, you should get lots of threads. I stayed at one of the resorts (Royal Caribbean) this past July and it was awesome. I would hightly rec. them to anyone....I thought they were comparable to the DVC resorts, I actually thought in some aspects they were better.

I'd second the Royals in Cancun and add Paradise Village in Puerto Vallarta.

The 1 BR are great though no whirlpool tub. The studios are so so. A lot for the teens to do from what I remember but we went without teenagers so I don't have first hand knowledge in this area.

Glad to hear that becuase we leave for Royal Carribean on the 3rd of February in a 2 bdroom oceanfront. We paid cash, not an exchange with DVC.

PM if you get time I'd love to hear more about that resort.

I would consider, OP, paying cash as well for the week. Some good deal for that resort out there. You also won't have to play the DVC exchange waiting game either.

Last time i was there was 2000, prior to digital camera for us. The beach and pools were great and there were a number of great restaurants with the top choices being Casa Rolandi and La Dolce Vita (must have been Italian in a former life). The Yucatan restaurant was horrible (Los Almondros or somthing like that). For Mexican downtown had two great meals at La Parilla, 2 of the best I've ever had. The restaurant across from the Tri Royals that they own was only OK for breakfast but the one in the Royal Sands was great. Didn't do the fine dining option at the Royal Mayan but wish we had. You can go to www.royalresorts.com where you should be able to find a lot of info including maps and photo's. Timeshare Users Group reviews have a lot of info also. Another URL I've found helpful in the past is mexicondo.com.

We stayed at the Royal Caribbean in November and highly recommend it. Next time, though, we'd like to try the Royal Sands, which is newer and has a bit younger patronage (but still couples and families).

That said, the Royal Caribbean is very nice, and it's location in the middle of the Tri-Royals makes for lots of dining options, pools, etc.

As stated earlier, we stayed at RC, first week in July this past year. We traded in, and was pleasantly surprised. They had daily activities around the pool including: water volleyball, bingo, water aerobics, trivia. They also had beach volleyball down at the beach. The pools were nice, never too crowded, never anything out of hand or unacceptable. The Royals beaches are top notch, plenty of room for all your beach activities.

We too stayed in a 1 BR, and we’re blown away with the space. It was just the 2 of us, and we actually felt guilty about having it all to ourselves. There was a full kitchen, which did not get used other than the occasional bottle of water or soda. A dinning room table, which was very useful for all our stuff when we came in with our arms full. A nice sized living room leading out to the veranda, which was also connected to the bedroom. The bathroom was a little on the small side nothing special, but no big deal. There’s a huge closet to store all your stuff in. We had daily maid service (a daily tip is recommended). It was really a nice place. We were on the fifth or sixth floor, can’t remember for sure……we had an awesome view of the pool and beach. We sat out on our veranda many nights with our margarita’s.

We found the food on property to be very good, as a matter of fact we were quite surprised as we initially expected to visit more off property rest. We had breakfast at the Tradewinds most every day (RC rest), and had lunch and dinner there a couple times. We also had breakfast at Le Veranda (RS rest) once, and dinner at Hacienda Sisal (Mexican Themed rest out front of the RS). All were very good and reasonably priced, they had a nice variety.

Dumbo71, I would like to visit the Royals again sometime soon, but am a little low on points…….where did you find a reasonable cash price? And how much are you talking? We took the tour with our Concierge staff, but are in no position to buy at this time….although I’d love to own there. Darn auto industry….not doing so good! We loved our concierge, they are really great people!

wcjoey43, you should take a look at the TUG board if you end up deciding to go, those people are a plethera (sp) of information.

We ending up booking our transfers through Brant's 2for1 website, they were great. Met us at the airport, took our bags to the car, told us a little about the area, took us by dolphin beach (I think that was the name) it was on the way, just kind of pulled off the road for us to see it. On the way back to the airport, we had a different driver, just as nice...he even grabbed a porter for us in the airport......which was a savor w/all our bags and being slightly overwhelmed at the time.

We also purchased the 2for1 card, which gave us a lot of discounts in Cancun, including dinning and tours. We had dinner at Lorenzo's, best and freshest seafood I've ever had, at an unimaginable price.

We did the Tulum/Xel-Ha tour, which was great....although I would probaly skip Xel-Ha, if I had to do it all over again. We went over to Isla Mujeres on our own....very easy and well worth the trip. We purchased Maps for Cancun and Isla from CanDo Maps, making our day trip to Isla as easy and smooth as ever.
