Do you know what the Ireland Chocolate Cake is made out of?

Do you know what the Ireland Chocolate Cake is made out of?

I asked today because the festival cookbook has flour listed as an ingredient and this concerned me! The chef said that the cookbook for sale in the store has an old recipe! The cake is actually a FLOURLESS chocolate cake! And is indeed GF! made with cocoa powder, eggs, sugar, vanilla. :)

Did he say if the stand itself was GF or is it the food is GF, but there could be cross-contamination? Those kitchens in those booths are tiny... and I am so hyper-sensitive & get so sick.......

DH & I used to go to the F&WF & PftS every year before allergies (except peanut) This is my first F&WF since getting sick. Yesterday, I was bawling like a baby looking at the Marketplace offerings lists.... It would be Heaven if DH & I could enjoy even 1 or 2 things at the Festival on our 20th Anniversery. I think I would cry again. :cloud9:

WOW!!!! Too bad we're not going back to the world until 2013 :sad2: or else we would SOOOOOO get this!!

Thanks for the list...not as much as I was hoping. I was hoping the sausage/peppers from Portugal would work or maybe the Feijoada from Brazil. Anyone know about the rice pudding from Scandinavia? Being half-Swede that would be right up my alley!

Cross contamination is still a big risk. The chefs are not washing hands or replacing gloves in between servicing. It is very much an assembly line process. I watched at several booths the other day and asked and was told they cannot guarantee (or even a reasonal expectation) that there will not be cross contamination.

Now if you are there at a "slow" time, they maybe able to help you out-to a point.

Yeah..... that's what I figured & what Special Diets confirmed. I am way too hyper-sensitive to take that risk. A nosh from a Marketplace booth just isn't worth 36-48 hours of total system failure, esp. on vacation.

I guess the Food & Wine Festival is just another one of those attachments I'll have to let go of..... :sad1:

But - at least the restaurants are sooooo helpful & wonderful! That , I can't wait for! :cloud9:

There are some countries that you didn't list at all. Does anyone have any info on them? This will be the first time going to F & W since my son (10) was diagnosed with Celiac and I just want to be prepared. Thanks.

Australia: Shrimp on the Barbie, Grilled Lamp Chop
Brazil: Seared Mahi Mahi (hold the sauce)
Argentina: Grilled Beef Skewer with Chimichurri Sauce (my wife’s favorite)
Caribbean: Ropa Vieja (hold the mango salsa)
South Korea: Lettuce Wrap with Roast Pork and Kimchi Slaw
Cheese: Cheese Plate
Germany: Goulash Soup
Hops & Barley: Linda Bean’s Lobster Claw Cuddler
Singapore: Beef Rendang
New Zealand: Seared Sea Scallop with Jumar-Red Curry
Portugal: Linguica Sausage, Calmari Salad
Ireland: Warm Choclate Lava Cake (is flourless)
Canada: Chicken Chipotle Sausage with Sweet Corn Polenta

Comparing the two-there are a few differences, which to me shows the old "ask 2 cms get 2 different answers". There are noticable mistakes on the second list, unless of course "cheese" and "hops and barley" are new countries LOL.

According to Special Diets Food and Wine is not "safe". According to "Chefs" at the booths "most food is not safe, either to cross contamination or ingredients". In my experience asking for a Chef at the booth (as you would in the rest of the "world" isn't working.) They either don't have time to talk (assembly line), or they don't know. (In a lot of cases I don't think these "Chefs" are "Disney Chefs", some were brought in for this event).

I would use caution when using ANY list found on the internet. The opinions listed are personal opinions and should be viewed as such and not be relied on as fact.

I believe they do actually have a "Cheese" and "Hops and Barley" booth this year from what I've been told. I was a little nervous about the second list due to the H&B selection being served on a roll from the pictures I've seen.

It would actually benefit most if they actually have an ingredient list posted at each booth (so everyone could decide for themselves what is safe or not), but I don't know if that's the case.

I think most people would benefit from an ingredients list. But that is something WDW is not doing.

I know according to the first list Greece has fried cheese which is supposed to be safe. I don't know if that is the "Cheese" noted on the second list.

Disney's (non) answer LOL

Thank you for your email. For the Food & Wine Festival, please speak to
a Chef or Manager at each kiosk and they will be happy to help answer
any of your questions. You may want to visit the festival welcome center
located in the Wonders Pavilion at Epcot and stop by the information
kiosk, they may be able to assist you with allergy ingredient
information. There will be gluten free options available at the
festival, but please know food items offered at the kiosks during the
Food and Wine Festival are prepared in small kitchens and there may be a
chance for cross-contact
.

Bold is mine. I have not asked for ingredients at Wonders of life Pavillion-but I will this week. When I have asked for a Chef/Manager at a booth I was told they did not have one available. I think this maybe one of those "we have a policy", but practice is not the same as policy.

I went to F&W with a Gluten Allergy about a week ago. I have not had any symptoms or stomach pains. I stopped at the following Pavilions:

France: Chocolate Milk Creme Brulee [Gluten Free]
Cheese Booth: Cheese plate [NOT gluten free. Even without crackers, one of the cheeses has some kind of 'Fig Cake' from what they told me.]
Carribean: Jerk Chicken [Gluten Free]
China: Caramel-Ginger Ice Cream [Gluten Free]

That's only where I stopped. I was having a sweet tooth that day. If I had known about the flourless chocolate cake in Ireland, you know I would have been there. :) I'm a frequent Disney-attendee. [Every day! Woo!] So I'll keep updating this list too.
