Glennbo’s City, Sand, and Savanna PTR - TR Link (pg 73)

So glad that the mobility discussion has started off on the right foot.

We took my husband's grandma to WDW for her 80th birthday and we knew that she would need some assistance. My mother-in-law told us that grandma was really comfortable driving the ECV's, so we decided that would be better for everyone.

Uh, yeah....not a good idea. Grandma almost drove herself into Seven Seas Lagoon when we were leaving MK! She was so busy concentrating on driving the thing that she didn't ever notice where she was going! We had it for one day and then called the company we rented from and they came out to switch to a wheelchair AND refund the difference.

Sounds like you had a great visit and a productive visit. The wheelchairs sound like a great idea to help keep your parents from wearing themselves out too much and to be able to see everything they want.

So are you mapping out your plan of attack for IOA now that you know what to expect?

So glad that I found this tonight!

I can't wait to hear about Vero Beach - one of the many Disney things I'd like to do.

I think that wheel chairs or scooters for your parents are a great idea. I actually use a scooter myself at the parks. After our first two trips of being in massive pain the whole time, I finally got over my pride and rented a scooter. Now, it's a whole new world. I am pain free - and I can keep up with my family - they are wonderful!

If you go the scooter route, have them practice at walmart. On weekend ;) so that they might get the feel of dealing with some crowds.

I'm glad you were able to have a productive conversation and bring up the wheel chair issue. I take that to be a very good sign that they will allow you to even look into it. I'm sure they realize how difficult it might be to do that much walking and still be able to enjoy themselves all week.

no...it was still a little scary!:rotfl:

:lmao::lmao: Someone said there's a video?
Hope the further discussions regarding ECV/scooters go well. We're starting to have the "assisted living" discussions with my FIL, which have the same kind of discomfort.

That is so hard. We are starting to try to figure out how to take care of MIL who is only 70, but physically much older - she won't admit she needs help. :sad2:

Oh no! :scared1: I'm glad she was okay.

I looked at Apple Scooter and they also do resort drop off and pickup. They do both motorized scooters and wheelchairs. I’m not sure which would allow my parents to feel more “independent” -- the scooter or the chair. I’m thinking that we can get them from place to place and if they feel like walking through a queue, they can. Of course they could do that with either a scooter or a chair. The scooters are so clunky to load on buses though. With a chair we can zip ‘em around and park the chair next to all of the strollers. :lmao:

That's why my mom liked the ECV better, she could control it rather than someone having to push her around. Not a role reversal she was comfortable with. :rotfl: If you are potentially looking at 2 chairs, that's 2 of you pushing and honestly, tied to the chair at all times. The funny thing is I really don't remember how they got that darn ECV to the park each day or if she rented at the park...I sure as heck don't recall them lugging it in and out of their car or on the bus...but am sure there was some of that.

Funny what you remember and what you don't.

I well remmeber the pix !!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Talk about a picture being worth a thousand words!

Ouch! I am visualizing that right now - Maybe with the pain meds, it didn't seem so scarey! :rotfl2:

Just think of it as another Disney 4D ride.

no...it was still a little scary!:rotfl:

Your kids wouldn’t hurt you….intentionally.

I don’t even want to think about that. It’s the same thing I’m dealing with, but like raised to the 10th power.

Or wheel. ;)

Oh my gosh. I’m glad she was okay and that you were able to switch to a wheelchair. Yes, I’m worried about that kind of thing, although I think running someone over is an even bigger risk.

Sounds like you had a great visit and a productive visit. The wheelchairs sound like a great idea to help keep your parents from wearing themselves out too much and to be able to see everything they want.

I think so too. The other thing to remember is the heat that will be bearing down on us at that time of year.

I haven’t really. I know it’ll be head immediately to Hogsmeade for Forbidden Journey. Then, since Lauren is such a rollercoaster fanatic, we’ll have to get on the Incredible Hulk. After that maybe Spiderman. That’s the extent of the planning.

That's it. I might guess Big Apple scooters might be in NY????:lmao:

Don't mind me I am

Yeah, I think it would be. And besides, everybody knows the Orlando-area scooters are called “Windy City Scooters”.

So glad that I found this tonight!

Hey Kat! :welcome: I’m glad you found us!

I can’t wait to try it out for you! :)

Yay for being mobile! I’m sure it’s a big benefit to you and your family both.

Good idea. :thumbsup2

I think it’s a good sign too. I know there is no way they can get through a week without some help. I just wasn’t sure if we’d have to wait until the actual trip before we looked into what to do about it.

:lmao::lmao: Someone said there's a video?

Oh I wish.

Hmm, you're really giving me something to think about. Maybe I should gather some info on ECVs and give that to them along with the wheelchair info.

Hi Glenn !!!!!

Eve'nin' Rosie!

Hello! I'm very late to this party but it looks like a fun one so I'm hopping on board.

:welcome: teekathepony! I think I've seen you on Jenbear's thread, and probably some others...I'm glad you stopped in here too. :goodvibes

The PTR is building-up to the TR, so I don't think you're late at all. :) Thanks for joining in.

Well, I'm certainly glad you stopped in and I apologize that it's a little slow at the moment....I guess I'm in the "Planning Doldrums"...all the reservations are made, but it's still too early to pack a suitcase.

That photo needs no context to be funny. You could show it to someone walking down the street and they'd laugh. I love it.

I don't mind a bit, I don't have a lot of planning going on at the moment. It's not the Morocco fountain/urinal picture, is it? :scared:

Just wanted to let you know I'm following along!! :cool1:

Thanks ericamcl and :welcome:

I see from your ticker that you'll be going when it's nice and cool. I wish we could swing that, but can't due to school schedules. Maybe we'll be able to one day....

I'm going to be honest, I'm a little concerned about the weather, but DH says I'm being a worry-wart about it.
I don't want to leave cold Baltimore in December to go to a cold Orlando in December..LOL
