Glasses on rides

My daughter usually takes them off the faster rides (space, btmrr, 7dmt, everest, tot, rnr) just because she'll not be able to see at all until they get replaced if something did happen.

Most rides at Disney aren't "crazy" enough to warrant worrying about my glasses, but I can't recall what I did years ago on ToT. Those of you with glasses, how do you handle this ride? I know that the safest bet is to hide them away, but then I wouldn't see anything!

Sports Strap! I used to always carry an eyeglass case and stow my glasses (with my yarmulke) on coasters and rides with drops. Sometimes I would just put them in my bag loose. Not only would that get them scratched, but it's also how I ruined a pair when someone stepped on them as I was exiting Space Mountain. They fell out of my bag loose while I was putting my yarmulke back on in the unload station at 2 in the morning at the end of a late-evening EMH. (And I had no back-up pair, either, for the rest of my trip!) Last month before a 5-day trip to WDW I picked up a $10 sports band from a Sunglass Hut. It was phenomenal. Never took my glasses off in the parks once. So secure that I never felt I was going to lose them. And I got to see details on rides I always missed before. Totally changed my comfort zone about my eyeglasses and rides.

I get really nervous about losing my glasses on rides, so I take them off for the "crazier" ones. I used to stick them in the pouches but TWICE I forgot to get them and had to go back and ask a cm for them! :rotfl2: If you're nervous about losing them on a ride, I would just stick them in your bag instead of the ride pouches.

I've never had an issue with glasses on any ride, even RnRC. Now hats, on the other hand....

:offtopic: The first time we rode ToT as a family, my dad wore his hat. The picture was taken just as his hat flew off his head. Me and my best friend are cracking up, he's screaming and reaching behind him to get his hat. The people behind us are trying to catch his hat. My mom, meanwhile, is cowering and closing her eyes, unaware. It's my favorite ride picture that's ever been taken.

What is the best strap to hold them on the head when riding?
Where can I buy one?

Any kind of cord that attach to your glass's frames easily will work. Just look around the sun glass area of any store.

Though I would avoid ones that look like a lump of rubber on the end of the cord with a hole it it. Those have to slip over the frames and if you have big ear pieces will not work.

No issues, though I did worry a little on RnRC. Think next time I may try and remember a strap for them. Also wore on all the water slides I did at BB (didn't do slusher or summit) with no problem. I can't see without them. Didn't feel them move on ToT!

The only problem I had with my glasses coming off was on Mission Space. When the shoulder restraints popped off at the end of the ride, one of the sides brushed my glasses and took them off my head. Not sure how that happened.

Space Mountain doesn't have shoulder restraints. Do you mean RnRC?

My daughter had no issues with her glasses on any rides at Disney. If you're concerned, an athletic glasses strap is less than $5 and may give you piece of mind.

Disney rides on their own will not take off your glasses, however being jostled by your neighbor on a ride can take them clean off. Wear a strap.

DS 10 has very heavy glasses (+10 in each eye) and has only ever had an issue at the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon.

Cedar Point and Millenium Force are a different story.

I've worn mine on every attraction and never had a problem, but I do follow two important rules:
1) Always keep your face forward. This way any wind will push your glasses onto your face and help keep them in place.
2) Everyone in the car with me has to keep their hands down. I don't want someone with with hands up in the air suddenly have their hands come over into my face and knock my glasses off when we go around a sharp turn.
Instead of making everyone keep their hands down in your car, why not just put croakies on? Its super easy and you dont need to place silly restrictions on others.

If, totally hypothetically, you put your glasses on top of your head and forget that they are there when you ride Space Mountain, then they will probably fall off. Hypothetically speaking, of course.
Other than that, I agree with everyone else - no problems with glasses that are properly being worn in front of your face.

I've never had problems with glasses coming off at WDW, DLR, or either coast's Universal parks.

That said, with shoulder restraints I tend to take the glasses off (after the first time I've ridden a ride, once I've experienced it) because my height causes my head to get bashed around a bit on the restraints, and that hurts MORE if you have glasses on. But even on Dragon Challenge at Universal Florida they've never come close to coming off.

Because you then have to take the time to put the Croakies on and then take them off afterwards. I don't find them comfortable to wear all the time.

Also, the "hands down" rule was largely aimed at my kids when they were smaller and if they put their arms up that meant that their hands were about at the same level as my face and that made accidental contact more likely. In addition to potentially getting my glasses knocked by their hands, there was another not-so-silly reason for my request... it hurts when your face gets smacked when you're wearing glasses (Croakies, or not).
