Hi everyone.:)

We've had a pretty bad couple of weeks, but I'm trying to look at the bright side of things.

I won't go into all the drama of everything that's been happening the last few weeks, but to top off our string of bad luck, Justin (my DH) was driving 60mph on the highway Tuesday afternoon when suddenly the left front tire had COMPLETE tread seperation. (BAD)

At the exact same time, going in the opposite direction, was a State trooper, who had to swerve his car around so he wouldn't get hit by the flying tread. (BAD)

Luckily the State Trooper was a nice guy, turned around to help out my hubby and make sure he was okay, clear the tread debris from the highway, and didn't write any kind of citation. (GOOD)

Luckily our car (Ford Explorer) didn't flip and roll, Justin manged to keep it upright and somehow muscled it over to the shoulder, the car only suffered a little body damage, Justin didn't get hurt, nor did anyone else on the highway. (GOOD) (Strangely, although all the tread literally peeled off the tire, the tire stayed inflated and never went flat.)

Luckily there wasn't any damage done to anyone else's vehicles because of the flying tread. (GOOD)

After the State Trooper goes on his way, Justin pulls out the spare tire, and it's flat. He called me on his cell, wanting me to call a tow truck, which would've cost a few hundred dollars since Justin was in a rural part of the state. (BAD)

Luckily, about a minute later, a couple of county workers stopped to help, took the spare tire to their headquarters (about a mile down the road), filled it with air, and brought it back to my hubby. (GOOD)

Justin put on the spare tire and manages to get the car home, but once there, we realized that the flying tread hit a back tire and put a leak in it, and the back tire went completely flat within a couple of hours of being parked in our garage. (GOOD & BAD)

The next day (yesterday), Justin buys some spray tire patch stuff, and gets the back tire leak patched up enough to fill it with air so he could drive the car over to Les Schwab tires. (GOOD)

The manager at Les Schwab was really nice, said he had only ever seen a complete tread seperation 3 times in his life (we were the third). We had to buy 4 new tires to a tune of $450. (GULP - GOOD & BAD) :dance3:

Hi Capri,
Wow, scary story about the tires and your DH. Glad everyone is ok and it all worked out.:thumbsup2

OMG, it's 8:35 in the morning and my kids are already complaining to me that they are bored. It's gonna be a long day.......:sad2:

Have a good one ladies!!! :)

Zoiks. Growing up, saying such a thing to our mom would have been a sure fire way to spend a few hours doing laundry, dishes, washing windows, and vacuuming (or rather, rug raking, as we had a supercool shag rug).

We tried to keep our mouths shut when having feelings like that...went outside and dissected flowers instead.

:lmao: I've made the mistake of saying I was bored to my mom and I learned never ever ever to say that when she even remotely looks busy... because I will be put to work (even as an adult!)

I see. Well, still, it will give you something to plan for and look forward to. When in January are you going? I wonder if you go early enough in the month, if the Christmas decorations would still be up? That would be really neat to see. I loved it in WDW at Christmas time. :goodvibes

Yes, that's what I'm really happy about. Half the fun is all the planning I get to do that I can't do for Disneyland. For some reason this little thought came into my head when I first thought about it, "I can't plan or fund a WDW trip, I'm silly for thinking about it" but then I thought again "Wait? Why not?!"
Idk I guess I still thought I was a teenager in HS...weird.

It's an interesting feeling!

I'm planning January 23rd - 30th 2010. I am trying to avoid the first week because of New Years, Marathon, and then MLK. The last week of January seems the best because I still don't have school:goodvibes

Christabel, that's a GREAT TIME TO GO!:yay:

DH and I went during that same timeframe in 2007, and it was an awesome time to be there. Crowds were low, waits were short, weather was good.

However, Splash Mountain was closed, and I believe it goes down every January for a refurb.

Still though, even with no Splash, we had a blast and wouldn't hesitate to go during late January again.:thumbsup2

I'm glad everything I read about that time is true!
I just came up with a genius plan, something I would have never thought of if it weren't for my DIS friends. I'm going to break up our stay as follows: 3 nights moderate, 3 nights deluxe. Of course I will be saving the deluxe for the end of our stay. Now I have to decided which moderate & deluxe hotel!

I am a bit limited for Deluxe, it's between the WL or AKL. I could afford the Contemporary but I think it's ugly and has no theme in its architecture.

Well, I can't really fault them. It's hard to go play outside when it's anywhere from 108-113 out. :sad2:

Oh ok. I didn't think about those. We went the week after Thanksgiving and it was GREAT. All the decorations were up and it looked beautiful, weather was cool and the parks were practically empty. Loved it. :)

Capri, wow, I'm glad your DH was ok. How scary. I'm sorry to hear you've had a bad couple of weeks. I hope things start to turn around for you real soon.

Capri,

I am so happy that your DH is OK. Sounds like it could have been way worse.

Sorry about your tire bill though. :headache:

It's good to have you around again. I know how much time it takes to plan a WDW trip. Hours and hours. It makes it so much harder when one park stays open late, and another closes early, and so on and so on. Early entry...extended hours!!! And then trying to get ADRs close to the park you are at if possible. The lists go on. Sounds like you have quite a bit done already!!! :woohoo: Have so much fun!

Capri, I'm so glad your DH is ok! What a scary thing to be a part of. My sister rolled her car so we know about close calls. That is so strange that the tread just flew off!

Girls, I'm planning my WDW trip and I'm so OVERwhelmed and UNdecided:eek:

:lmao: Sorry to laugh but it just reminds me of myself when I plan! And it won't matter how carefully you plan it out. You will still end up changing your mind tons of times before the actual trip! :rotfl2:

But then again, that's part of the fun!!

Seriously.
Oh and my plans have already changed. I'm unsure of taking my grandparents now. You just don't know what will happen in nearly 2 years. My grandma will be 67 and my grandpa 72. Besides my grandma's hip, back, knee problems my grandpa can't exert himself. If I could take them this year, I DEF would but two years from now I doubt they would be up for it. The problem is that they could be dying but they wouldn't say no and I'd hate for them to get worse while on the trip; my grandma does not do good with ANY humidity (thus they live in Lancaster).

I'm just unsure. We'll see when the time comes around but for now I have a back up plan; it's my sister, her bf, and our cousin. And if us kids do go we're going CHEAP, value resorts all the way!

When is it too early to start a Pre- Trip Report?
I still have 1.5 years but I have so much info swirling in my head! This time my sister, Diana, will be a part of the planning so it's great that I can unload some of this info into her brain!:upsidedow

Diana and Tyrae (her DBF) are totally up for Disney World in January 2010, now we just need to convince our cousin, Sergio to come. The four of us get along so great and we have such GREAT times together. Recently we did DL & DCA and had a blast! I'm so psyched I'm going back to WDW, and with two noobs to boot!

Since it's going to be us college kids, we are staying in value. We like ASSp but we were wondering if it would be cheaper to get two rooms or a suite?

Thanks everyone for your concern. My hubby said it was scary, but we were blessed many times that day and fortunate that no one got hurt.

Had it been a rear tire that threw thread instead of a front tire, the situation could've been tragic.....so as I said, we were blessed.:thumbsup2

It's great to be back with all you ladies over here. I mean, it's fun (and stressful) to plan a WDW trip, but I missed my friends that I've come to know over the last few years here on the Disneyland boards.

Capri--how old were the tires on the car? Did you keep them? If they weren't too old I would definitely see about getting a refund or credit from where you originally bought them. Of course, thank God your husband didn't get hurt and the car wasn't damaged any more than it was.

As for me, I spent the day at Disneyland yesterday with my friends who are visiting from the United Arab Emirates and the 11-year old daughter of my other friends. We had a GREAT time--although it looked crowded, the lines were short--the longest was mid-afternoon at Roger Rabbit--about 30 minutes. (I didn't want to go on so I sat in the shade and waited for them--it was heavenly--Goofy and Minnie were running all over Toontown and it was fun to watch!) We met lots of characters and the girls got their autographs--Mickey, Donald, Pluto, Goofy, Cruella, Alice, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts . . . we saw Chip and Dale but didn't get in their line. Most rides (HM, Pirates, Snow White, Pinocchio, Toad, Jungle Cruise) were walk-ons. We waited 20 minutes for Peter Pan--and this was at 8:15 am. of a Magic Morning (so DL opened at 7 a.m.). It was amazing! We had no trouble getting a lunch seating at Cafe Orleans at 12:00 or finding seating at Pizza Port at 6:00.

Never saw the Dream Team "dreaming"--saw a few walking around in non-dream mode. Only saw a few Dream Fastpasses. We were afraid it was going to be very hot, but ended up not so bad. Food was yummy--our only non-meal splurges were Dole Whips and one box of popcorn between us. Oh, and the girls got some candy at the end on Main Street. (Of course, Omar and I were always in search of the nearest coffee cart!)

We are going to the Orange County Fair tomorrow, and then Sunday, as a surprise for my friends' daughter we are doing the Lilo and Stitch breakfast at Paradise Pier. It's a game with us--last year I took them to see Wicked and gave her clues so she could guess (she did finally guess, as we were driving to the theater, that it had something to do with the Wizard of Oz). So, of course, this year she wants clues about her surprise too. So, I need help--so far my clues to her are "eggs" and "Hawaii". For those of you who have gone to the breakfast (and even if you haven't) can you think of other things for the next three days? I don't want to give too much away. I thought of "blue" (for Stitch). And drums? Don't they have drums there they use for th kids? Anyway, suggestions would be appreciated! She will be so excited--Stitch is her favorite character! They are probably leaving Sunday afternoon and I'm sure I'll be pooped!

Ok--so I guess I better get back to work. My house guests are at the beach today while I work . . .

Hello all. Just a couple of quick minutes to catch up with you. Got my computer cord back, and now we have spyware attacking it, so I'm once again without a computer. I don't like it at all!
Ethan is going to be okay. He does have schouermann's, but's it's the lumbar, not thorasic, so no brace (at least not for now, and if he does the work he needs to do.) He will have physical therapy and continuing exercises, but I think we'll be avoiding the worst of it. I'm so very happy!
I'm still in need of some disney time, so if anyone with a premium wants to meet up with me, I'm all for it!! Anytime. Just let me know.
I'll be on more regularly once I can get my computer fixed!
Michelle

Hi Michelle!:flower3:

A quick thing to get rid of spyware, go to ewido.com
On the right side, click here under "Online Spyware Scanner"
On the next page, on your left hand side, click Scan Now under "Scan your computer now online and clean it for free!"

First it will find any harmful spyware (i.e. trojans) and once it has found them all it will get rid of them. EXTREMELY helpful, believe me!:thumbsup2

That's good that your DS doesn't need the brace right away:hug:. I hope everything works out! Sending prayers your way!:goodvibes

toocherie...pineapple coconut scones, leis, yes they have bongo type drums, big windows in the restaurant, maybe Daisy (girl ducks?)....

There's that big statue of Goofy with a surfboard in the lobby of PPH...

I was wondering if any of you ladies know how I could apply to work for the Walt Disney Travel Company. I'm getting my B.S. in Entertainment and Tourism and I really LOVE LOVE LOVE vacation planning and researching new places. An example of my Disney/Travel love, I made a powerpoint presentation for my parents to show them info about WDW (leading to our first WDW trip 2006!).

Anyways, I was just wondering. I'd also be interested in working at Disney Resort here or in Florida. So I'm now wondering if I should continue getting my Bachelors is Entertainment & Tourism or if I should switch over to Hospitality.

Sorry it's :offtopic: but I know you ladies and I posted on the WDW forums but no response. Thanks!

Have you checked out the student programs section on the Disney Corporate site in careers? Looks like there are college programs and professional internships. I don't know about any of these first hand, but a place to start.
