Hello all! It's been a busy day in our household as we completed an 11 hour shopping marathon :scared:

All in all, I didn't spend too much considering everything I bought, but I spend more than I anticipated at the outset of the day...

Started bright and early at Circuit City at 5 am and then progressed to Target, the Disney Store (X2), the Character Warehouse, Carter's (I always get into trouble there!) and Barnes and Noble amongst other stores. Got some great deals/gifts and a few things for myself/the house.

Anyway, I am down to one present for my best friend and a few things for the DH and a gift card for my parents to finish up my necessary shopping. And then, my office is adopting a family and Ty's school is setting up an Angel Tree so we will pick up some things for charity. Also, I saw that KBF is doing Toys for Tots for free admission during the weekends in Dec. Since we have never made it over there, I am considering giving up our first partial day at DL on Dec. 21st to check out KBF and donate to a good cause at the same time. Has anyone ever gone there during the winter? Is it worth our time? They are only open until 7 pm, so I told Dave that we would still be hitting DL for fireworks and snow that night since we have the APs and can do that!

Along with Cheryl I couldn't get enough Thanksgiving yesterday as we went to a friend's house along with about 12 other people. We were in charge of cranberries and mac'n'cheese, but I found myself longing all the traditional foods my family makes too. So, we bought a turkey breast and put everything together yesterday so that the casseroles just had to bake today and voila Thanksgiving dinner redux tonight!

Hope that everyone else had a great day! I still can't wrap my head around the fact that it is Friday and I still get two more whole days before I have to be back at work!

It gets pretty crowded on the Toys for Tots days. If you choose to go, I would go early, hit the kiddie area early with your DS. Check out a few other rides and walk around a bit. Go to the craft faire area. Santa will be over there. But don't stay too long. It will get really crowded and not be fun. Personally, I only like to go during the Haunt time. Other than that, I stear clear of it. I can answer more questions if you have any.

I just caught up on all the chatter after 2 days at my in-laws, and I have 2 points to make.

1. Wendy--my MIL called my 7yo niece a psychopath. My BIL called her (his mother) as ***. My SIL left in tears. Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!

2. Callie--you're not crazy girl! I think it's a great thing you are doing for your family. I wish my family would get on board with something like this. We have 9 nieces and nephews on Marty's side of the family, and that is just too much "stuff" to buy. But this year we drew names amongst the adults, which we've been doing for several years, and the kids are also drawing names with their cousins. Se everybody just has to purchase 1 gift. I think this will be a great compromise for us.

I just want to start getting into the holiday spirit. And nothing says holidays like a fragile leg lamp in the window.

I couldn't agree more! We watch that movie about a gazillion times each December.

I couldn't agree more! We watch that movie about a gazillion times each December.

We watch it about that many too. As a matter of fact, DD wanted to watch it last week. I told her we had to at least wait until after Thanksgiving to see it.

For those organizing the VIP tour...are you booking it at the 90 day mark? If so, who do I need to send money to? I'm trying to get my budget for December in order, and need to know what you all want! ;) I'm excited to do it! :woohoo:

Look for a PM this coming week.

Well, you all have been very busy here on the boards.

I spent the day with my cousins and my sister and we all had a wonderful fun day. There were lots of gals to help with all the work, so I was not completely dead on my feet like I was the last two years when I hosted.

Then, inspite of my best intentions, I did go out and do a little shopping. We are one larger suitcase short for our DLR trip in February, so I got a fabulous little set for a door buster price of $20. I did swing by the DS and darn if they didn't have the Xmas Jammies on sale. I also get my kiddos new jammies every Xmas, and so I had to scoop some of those up. It's sort of an ongoing joke. Can I open just one present?? Please, please!! Okay, son, but I get to pick it...and there they are, every year, the new jammies.

My other tradition is that the day after Thanksgiving, we put our tree up (artificial) and then I take a picture of the kids, and turn it into a picture Xmas card. I am not finished yet, but here is one I have been messing around with. (My husband worries about posting pics of our kiddos online, but I know you guys are safe, but don't tell him!)

I really wanted to get the tree, the boys and the pup, but I was really challenged this year. The dog was easy, it was the 6 year old that was giving my grief. Do you see that little devilish glint in his eyes?

Anyhow, looking forward to 2 more days at home!

I know this is not anyway related to Disney but I need so home help.

So apparently my neighbor is suing us...because our dog barks too much.

She has called a couple of times over the past months to complain that our dog was barking. But of course those complaints were on the answering machine since we weren't home those times. Seriously what more can we do? Whenever we're home we bring in Osita (my dog) in whenever it gets dark or she starts to bark (usually at night). Occasionally she will bark during the day time but our entire neighborhood is SURROUNDED by dogs so we don't understand why our neighbor is complaining about JUST our dog when all the other dogs bark more than she does.

My dad and my neighbor had a conversation today and
she said "I've had my dog for 15 years and he never...blahblahblah"
and my dad says "our dog is just a puppy, not even a year old. She will be trained in due time, right now it's just not feasible".
She said "well then you shouldn't have a dog".

She doesn't know ANYTHING that's going on in my family. My parents are both dealing with physical ailments and my mom is scheduled for serious surgery in December. We ALL go to school so we are not available nor do I have the money for dog training or a behaviorist. I'm working right now to so I can SAVE up that money so I can afford it.

My dad asked her "why are you blaming only our dog when we are surrounded by dogs?"
and she said "because she (my dog) in my front yard"
and my dad said "NO, she is in our backyard, where she is supposed to be. It's not OUR fault the way the houses are situated". Supposedly she has film of the dog barking...ok? what does that mean?

It's not even like Osita barks after "quiet" hours, if she barks it's in the daytime, when the sun is out. We are trying to stop her from barking and it seems the only possible next step is for me to get a shock collar for her so that way I can control the zapping when I'm home.

But srsly, does my neighbor have NOTHING better to do than complain about my dog?

Do you have any suggestions? IF she files a lawsuit, what would most likely happen?

BACK TO DISNEY STUFF: DISNEYLAND IN 4 DAYS!:cool1::lmao:

Yes, TOO MUCH!! I told Callie I spent about $200 and that was with my AMS discount card!! Guess I failed at Don't-Spend-Money-Today. Got some gifts for a niece and nephew, also a SIL and other niece, and my 2 DDs picked out some shirts, as did I, along with a few other little things. They had a sign up that said they would be getting a delivery from Disneyland on Thursday, Dec. 4. I will probably go check it out on Friday.

My DH won't do that, he says he doesn't want to make someone else work... Yeah, right, someone else other than ME!!

Sounds like fun! I wish I had time this week to meet up with you at the warehouse. I am lucky before I married my DH he was the main cook for his entire family, and had all holidays at his house. His mother passed 2 weeks after our wedding, and then we moved, so he doesn't have to do it any longer. He at least understands the stress though, and that's nice!

Seriously, I shop because I feel like I have to. :confused3 I do not really enjoy it. I usually get really nervous in the stores as the total gets higher and higher. I literally feel ill. I hate that feeling. No Christmas joy, that's for sure. This is why I have such a love/hate relationship with Christmas, and prefer Halloween. LOL

This is how I feel a lot of years, but we have cut way back this year, and I'm not feeling guilty about it! :) My stress level is already cut in half. I need a gift for DH and then I'm done! Yay!

I just want to start getting into the holiday spirit. And nothing says holidays like a fragile leg lamp in the window.

SD09.jpg

So true! I'm usually not one for what I call 'stupid comedy', but Christmas Vacation is one of my favorite Christmas movies. I can realte a little too much to it! :scared1:

Ok, I had Panda Express for dinner and just had my fortune cookie. It reads, "Use your natural talents to obtain more." So I'm wondering? Should I start buying more cleavage showing shirts? ;)

One time at band camp...(ok, it was really work!), I got a fortune that said: "You're in over your head, time to seek professional help." I had never received a bad fortune in all of my life, but it was hilarious. Our social worker wanted to buy it from me to slip into her DH's fortune cookie!

We watch it about that many too. As a matter of fact, DD wanted to watch it last week. I told her we had to at least wait until after Thanksgiving to see it.

I can't wait to break out all the Rudolph's and Frosty's and other old movies for DS2 to watch for the 1st time. I hope he likes them! :goodvibes

Look for a PM this coming week.

Thanks for organizing the VIP trip! I can't wait!! Oh, and your photo looks great! I'm taking my boys in to get pictures taken on Wed. I hope the 2yo cooperates. It will make an interesting card if he doesn't! :)

I don't know what to tell you. I hope things clear up soon, it sounds like you have a lot on your plate. :grouphug:

I can't sleep. Ugh. I have to work today also. My allergies are getting to me, and woke me up. I hope everyone has a better day than I'm destined to have!

Heather

Callie!! Now you've got me thinking too much. I don't like to do that ya know. ;) I feel like I should go return some of the stuff I just bought! :rotfl2:

I did give my credit cards to Ruben and said do NOT give them back no matter what!!! I guess that's a start. :rolleyes1

OK, I'll shut up now. :rotfl:

Awesome! :goodvibes That was my intent -- to get people thinking about Christmas instead of just blindly stumbling through it doing what we have all been programmed to do -- CONSUME.

I'd encourage you to start researching Christmas traditions to start in your family. Go to the library and check out books, research other cultures and what they do for the holiday. Find something that resonates with you and then start doing it. But mostly, remember even if you aren't a Christian, the reason for "Christmas" is Christ, and his life was about love and forgiveness. Just incorporating those two things alone can make a difference.

:goodvibes

When doing your Christmas cards this year, take just one card and send it to this address. If we pass this on and everyone sends one card, think of how many cards these wonderful special people who have sacrificed so much would get.

When you are making out your Christmas card list this year, please send one to the following:

A Recovering American Soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20307-5001

Just want everyone to check out these links before they send out cards to this.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/christmas/soldiercards.asp

Oh, GOOD information!! I usually check things like that before I do anything; there is a good address in the 2nd link, as well as other information such as when they would need to be mailed. Don't use the Walter Reed information I posted, it's no good, according to the 1st link.

Thanks, Stacie!!

I just wanted to make sure that those wanting to send letters get to those who need it. I know when my brother was in Iraq and elsewhere, it was important to get letters from back home. Especially around the holidays. He would tell me that there are some guys/girls who never get any mail or cards from home. Even on the holidays. We ended up adopting some of them as ours as well.

And it was just by chance that I came across those links. I get Snopes updates and if I have time I will check them out, and those were on there.

Well, Callie, we're almost there. My Mom and I decided that we were only getting each other one gift--not to exceed $100. The rest of the family decided that we were not exchanging gifts with each other at all. Most of my friends and I have also made a pact--I am only buying for kids under 18 (mostly because I love to buy things for kids. When I lived in Utah I used to make Easter baskets for all of the kids next door--all seven! and leave them on the front porch. The first couple of years the parents were baffled, but then the Dad saw me early one Easter!). Oh, and my annual Toys for Tots donation things. I'm buying a few things for Steve (he needs a piece of luggage) and that's about it. I'm hoping to have a couple of friends' daughters (6 and 9) over in a couple of weeks to make cookies--which I think they will enjoy more than anything!

I'm really hoping to shed a bunch of excess things here--having so much stuff around is stressful!

BACK TO DISNEY STUFF: DISNEYLAND IN 4 DAYS!:cool1::lmao:

Cristabel: the first thing you need to do is figure out WHAT YOUR rights are. What are the laws in your community regarding barking dogs? For example, where my office is, there used to be a rule that two different people had to make a complaint about a barking dog before the city would act on it. Now it's been changed and it just takes one. Also, do you live in a homeowner's association type community? if so, you need to look at your CC&Rs to determine what rules (if any) are in there about noise, dogs, nuisances, etc. You need to know what tactic this woman may take.

Now, don't take this wrong, but a barking dog may not seem like a big deal to you, but it can be very annoying. There was a barking dog on the other side of the parking lot from my office which==no lie-- would bark ALL DAY LONG. I thought about making a complaint, and my paralegal even figured out who the owner of the house was. (Try negotiating million dollar contracts with a barking dog outside. Not easy.) Then the law in Santa Ana changed and miraculously the dog stopped barking. I guess the owner must have figured out something, because the dog is still there and barks occasionally--but not often. It's like a precocious child in a restaurant--the parents may think it's "cute" while the other patrons are highly annoyed. I know this is a busy and difficult time for you and your family--is there anyone in your family who could take Osita until things calm down for you all and someone is around more often to monitor her and help train her during the day not to bark?

My other suggestion is to talk to your vet about ideas to help her not bark during the day. And be very vigilent about taking her in when she starts barking when someone is home. And in the meantime, figure out what the laws and rules are in your community and let me know what you find out, ok? And did this lady really use the term 'sue' or did she say she was going to file a complaint?

Ok, I'm totally jonesin' for Disneyland today. I want to be there! This is usually the week we go and we've been listening to visionsfantastic radio and I have my CA friends staying with us to are AP holders and have only gone once since September -- ONCE!! And they didn't even realize they could get into DCA until I told them. Oh, and the one time they went, they didn't even use fastpass!! :scared1: It's insanity. :sad2: They don't even know how to navigate the park correctly. I feel obligated to go home to CA with them on Sunday and take them by the hand and lead them through DLR the "right way". These poor people are CLUELESS!

At least I printed out my 8 page "tips sheet" for them to read before their next visit and hopefully they'll report back that they now understand how much they needed the "Improved Disney Experience."

Oh, and my AP expired yesterday. :guilty: :sad1:   I may just have to hook up with Stacie on Friday to visit the Character Warehouse.

Hope that everyone else had a great day! I still can't wrap my head around the fact that it is Friday and I still get two more whole days before I have to be back at work!
Hope you are enjoying your time off! :goodvibes

I'm glad I read this. I was thinking maybe it was something we could do. But not if it's going to be super crowded.
Then again, I don't know why I keep thinking we are going to CA in December. I guess because we did last year and I want to again.
But wanting to isn't going to make the van cross those mountains again when it barely made it last time. Oh well.

I 1. Wendy--my MIL called my 7 yo niece a psychopath. My BIL called her (his mother) as ***. My SIL left in tears. Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!
OMG.

Look for a PM this coming week.
Did you see the updated list I posted? Just wanted to make sure.

I love the pics of your kids!! So cute. Thanks for sharing. :)

So apparently my neighbor is suing us...because our dog barks too much.
I'm so sorry for all your issues right now. I hope it all works out. And I hope whatever surgery your mom is having goes ok.

I can't sleep. Ugh. I have to work today also. My allergies are getting to me, and woke me up. I hope everyone has a better day than I'm destined to have!

That's actually a really good idea. I can get the kids involved and see what interests them too.

I just wanted to make sure that those wanting to send letters get to those who need it.
Thanks for that info. I still love the idea of sending out holiday cards to the soldiers so I'll use that second link. :thumbsup2

I'm really hoping to shed a bunch of excess things here--having so much stuff around is stressful!
It is!! I don't want anymore stuff in my house! LOL

Ok, I'm totally jonesin' for Disneyland today. I want to be there!
Oh, and my AP expired yesterday. :guilty: :sad1:   I may just have to hook up with Stacie on Friday to visit the Character Warehouse.
Sorry about your AP. I know that feeling.
I am wishing I was there now too! I am sipping hot cocoa out of my DL mug from last December.
I hope your friends take advantage of your knowledge!! I'm amazed at how some people are so clueless. :rotfl:

And did this lady really use the term 'sue' or did she say she was going to file a complaint?

We have already received a complaint about the dog "barking at various times during the day" but of course we don't know who put it in but we do have a feeling that it was the same neighbor. We don't have homeowner's association. The only thing I think she would claim is that my dog is a "public disturbance" but she does not bark 24/7. As a matter of fact she isn't barking right now, she's just laying down outside. She did start earlier today because of the gardeners next door. When she hears sounds (people, machines, etc) and she can't see them, she gets a little freaked out. But I stopped her right away and she was quiet.

I totally understand, when my dog it TOTALLY bothers me. That's why when we're home we correct her and stop her. She tends to bark towards the back of our yard (there is a different backyard facing our backyard) so I tie her down, giving her enough leash to play, eat, drink except to go towards the back fence. Usually then she will calm down and be quiet. If it ever persists more than that she comes inside. We are trying everything to get her stop barking (commands, rocks in a bottle, spray bottle etc) but nothing seems to work. It also doesn't help that she is a crazy puppy. We got her fixed already and really hoped it would calm her down a little bit but she seems the same crazy active dog. I do take her for 45 minute walks but once the other dogs start barking, she starts up too. I'm thinking the only next step is to get a shock collar.

She did use the term "sue".

We have not gotten complaints from any other neighbor, not even my elderly one on the other side of our house. It seems that this particular neighbor just feels like taking it all out on us because 1) we're the closest 2) she knows us.

UGH.

I couldn't even fathom trying to navigate DL without a plan; now that I've used Ridemax several times I think I can do it on my own, but there are times when it's been too crowded for any plan to work, especially when rides shutdown and stuff like that. 8 pages?!? But I completely understand.

Sad that your AP expired :( But just think ahead to March!   I'm pretty sure I'm going out on my birthday in January, it's the 18th which is a Sunday so Allyson will go as well, wanna join me?? You're going to have to get an AP for March anyways, RIGHT???

We'll figure something out for Friday, how about lunch and shopping? Sounds like a plan!!!

I finally finished my huge statistics homework project. :cool1:

Yay!! I took stats many, many years ago (I have a math minor to go with my comp sci major) and it was one of the easier math classes I took, definitely easier than calc!!
