Girls Only Trip (old planning thread, see link to new one in 1st post)

Good Evening everyone!

Just spent the last several hours (with but a few interruptions ;) ) reading every page of this delightful thread - not easy when the thread kept growing as I tried to catch up! :thumbsup2

After a while, one page merged into another in this ole' brain, but most important, what came through loud and clear is what a beautiful group of women inside and out. ::yes::

If you have room for one more, I would love to join you all for the Annual Girls Only Disneyland Trip! It would be a dream come true for me. :cloud9:

DL has always been my favorite, but our last visit was 1996! My children grew up (how dare them!!) and not one friend is interested in anything Disney  as impossible as that seems to me! :confused3 (still wonderful friends though).

I must warn you..I'm almost as old as dirt, but very young at heart (due to hanging out with 2/3 yr olds for 20+ yrs).:hippie: First visit to DL was 1958 when we lived in Oxnard and many visits until that last trip waaay too many years ago. :sad2:

I'm so sorry I missed the exchange - must have been fun!

Let's see...things to do...anything and everything ::yes:: except I'm a bonafide wimp, so will be a willing coat holder for TOT, Splash Mtn etc...hey, Soarin' is my thrill ride and I peek through closed eyes some of the time. :guilty:

Would love to have a roomie, and especially stay on site for the first time. :) Not crazy about HoJo's as we had a rather bad experience there and it's kind of a hike walking...CCI is a fav though, if anyone is staying there. Of course, flexibility will become my middle name. ;) A rollaway would be great.

Will try to post a photo - if anyone can photoshop it that would be terrific - not sure the others in the photo would want to be on the DIS. ;)

Anyone here not on the 'other' coast? ;)

Christine

p.s.I'm sorry...this is the only photo I can find right now. Can't believe I am doing this!!

Welcome to the Divas, Christine :wave2:

Thank you so much.......I know I shouldn't let one persons opinion throw me like that, but it had some truth to it....... I know that I look at these girls thru rose-colored glasses...I only want the best for them. I can see where some of the milestones they're just now doing is appropriate for the 6-9 mth range but they ARE moving forward....so that's what I need to focus on.

I went out & got a book on baby signing so we can start working on some communication skills with them. It's going to be some time before they are able to tell us what they need or want. We've been doing just a few signs & they picked up the eat & more sign.....so it's a start.

Laurie, keep doing what you're doing. Those babies need someone who notices the things they CAN do, not just the things they CAN'T do. They need a cheerleader in their corner and you are there for them :cheer2:

Hi ladies. I'm back. Just wanted to let you know I got home from a wonderful DL trip safe and sound. I'm exhausted and am not even going to attempt to re-read all the posts I missed!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!! :)

Hi Courtney. Hope you had a fun trip :thumbsup2

Ok ladies--help me before I buy a DOG!!!!!! (I mean it--I'm looking at Corgis and there's a breeder over by DL that has three 9 week old puppies . . .. )

Oh gosh YES get the dog! I love my dog and can't imagine not having one. But what are you going to do with the dog when you're at Disneyland?

I know they're delayed but I just ache at the thought of them going thru life being different than everyone else. It just breaks my heart. We truly hoped that being in a stable, loving home with parents & siblings with normal intelligence would help break the cycle that runs very deep in their birth family.

So between the frustration of government red tape & not having a clue about their program & feeling sad.....it's been a rough day!!

 Sorry you had such a rough day! And remember, you only have a measurement of where someone thinks they measure today. The future is boundless! They are luck to have you!

If you have room for one more, I would love to join you all for the Annual Girls Only Disneyland Trip! It would be a dream come true for me. :cloud9:

Welcome!! :goodvibes

Jenn, my family is at the Grand Mother's Day weekend, too. I hope we can all hook up for a bit.;)

Yes, yes!! What do you ladies think about meeting at the Hearthstone Lounge on Saturday night, say, after bedtime? Like sometime after 9pm? Or is that too late? Too early? What'cha all thinking?

Welcome Christine!!!!

Boy, you guys go to bed early! Maybe some are watching tv ...

Welcome Christine! And best of all, we have two more admitted RWs!!! (Ride Wimps!! - like me). Yea!!!

:scared1::rotfl2:

watching tv.... :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I agree, we ride wimps need to stick together. We can take over with just a little organization....pirate:

Welcome Christine! I'm Callie, and I couldn't help but notice your adorable puppies in your avatar. Are they Maltese? I have one named Jovie, and she's pretty much my baby (since my real baby is 7 years old now).

Welcome back Miss Courtney! Glad you had a wonderful time. We missed you.

Thank you, Beth. I miss all you ladies too! :goodvibes

Welcome home Courtney!

Well I think I'm off to bed pretty soon. Yep 9:00, and I'm going to bed. I live a wild and crazy life!!!

Thank you! ;)

I know. I'm tired too. I can't pull myself away from my laptop to go to sleep.

Hi Courtney. Hope you had a fun trip :thumbsup2

Thanks! I did. I had a wonderful time. :flower3: Pooey being back in the 'regular world' :confused3 :headache:.

Amy-Oh my! I don't think I'd want to work in an ER now (nor ever, but that's another story...) Is the problem with the worried well? Or actual swine flu? I just don't know what to make of all this hullabaloo. I don't want to not take a pandemic seriously, but also don't want to get too worried. Why exactly is this swine flu worse than normal flus that are going around all the time?

So I have some good news to share...I'm a happy mommy. DH came through and is taking me and the boys to DL for Mother's Day! :yay: I'm such a lucky mom and wife. C:lovestruc ount my blessings everyday I do. :teacher:

Yes....mostly people who are just getting paranoid. Unfortunately, there is a lot of plain old influenza out there right now...along with other viral stuff, so everyone with a cough or sore throat is having a meltdown, and everyone else "just wants to make sure they don't have it". Most places are already out of the reagent to run the tests, so doctors offices and urgent cares just tell people to "go to the ER". It's been insane. Masking people at the front door (just to keep everyone calm) and sending nasal swabs left and right. We have had no positive for swine flu. There is one case in Reno but that is it in our state. If we get a positive for Influenza A we need to send a sample to the state and they re-run it to see if it is a human influenza strain (which is what most are) or a non-human strain (which would be the swine flu).

It's really not a big deal either way. Typical flu-like symptoms and easily treated with an anti-viral. The deaths in Mexico could have been avoided with medical care. But access is limited there. The treatment is the same whether you have plan old influenza or the swine, so we are just treating and releasing influenza patients.

But the whole panic and resulting daily conference calls, health department updates, etc, is making me crazy. And keeping me from all of the other things I should be doing.

Hopefully it will die down soon.

Welcome Christine!! You will love it here. The last trip was my first, and I not only had a great time but made amazing friends to boot! I had never done anything like this before and was so glad I did.

Everyone else....all this talk about "watching tv" is cracking me up.....

Good night Laurie! Have a great Saturday with your family!

Thank You!!

Nighty night! Rest well...and give those darling babies a hug for us. They are precious! Love your photos!!

Christine

Thank You & will do....they are very squeezable!!!

Awww, Laurie. I'm so sorry you've had a rough day. Hang in there. We are all in awe of you and the wonderful things you are doing. :grouphug:

Thanx, I needed the hug!!!

No no--she didn't like it--she LOVED it! sorry your day wasn't great but tomorrow will be.

 Hooray!!!! I'm so glad!!!

I'm sorry you had a bad day! Thankfully, it is almost over, and tomorrow is a brand new beginning!

Yes it is & after a little sleep, I hopefully will feel rejuvenated & ready to go again!!

Laurie, sorry today was so rough. :sad2: I HATE government red tape. I have a disabled son and am currently trying to get him additional services. The amount of paperwork and phone calls you have to make is ridiculous! But I just stay focused on the end result - more help for my son!:) Baby sign is a great idea. We did it some but my son took more to PECS (picture exchange communication). That might be something to look into also.

We've been discussing signing as well as picture cards.....guess I'll get busy & take pics of common things for the girls & sign with them to see if that helps. I can tell that they get frustrated & I know we do too when they can't tell us what they need or what's wrong.

Laurie, keep doing what you're doing. Those babies need someone who notices the things they CAN do, not just the things they CAN'T do. They need a cheerleader in their corner and you are there for them :cheer2:

We rejoice in all the positives & I like the feeling I get from that.... the negatives make me sad.....so goooooooooooo positives!! :cheer2:

 Sorry you had such a rough day! And remember, you only have a measurement of where someone thinks they measure today. The future is boundless! They are luck to have you!

Thank you...... I look at them & see sweet babies & then I think about when Addy was their age & I realize there's a huge difference...... but I'm ok with that.... they'll get there in their own sweet time!

Ok, off to bed now!!! Thanx everyone for being there for a shoulder to cry on..... I'm feeling much better....just very tired!

Laurie, I just wanted to pop on here and tell you that I know it's tough to jump through red tape. I've been battling it since January. I received an evaluation report in January from an assessment that I had my son do at 23 months due to a speech delay. He only said 5 words at 23 months, and so that was what I was focusing on.

Anyway, in January, I received a report that told me that at 23 months Nathan tested at 10 months communication and 8 months cognitively. He was over a year behind in everything including social skills and motor skills. I never saw it coming. I thought we had a speech delay.

So, I researched and went the sign language route, and it worked! I also added Omega 3's and multivitamins to our routine per his ped. We now have 10 'Signing Times' videos, and Nathan loves them. I really think that it helped him break through so to speak. Once he learned a sign, he said the word. He now has about 50 words, and the doctor does not think he's cognitively impaired now.

The thing is with cognitive levels, they are so hard to test at this young age when the child doesn't talk. So they almost have to score them low. I'm sure that you will find something that will help your girls. Love always wins. :goodvibes

Hello and welcome Christine!

We can hire someone in Vegas to watch tv with her. :rolleyes1
Maybe they'll offer THAT on the radio shopping show! :lmao:
Don't add me to that list.

The planning is one thing. No biggie there really. But once a month?? Is it like a marathon?? ;)

Only once a month? :scared1:

Welcome Christine! I'm Callie, and I couldn't help but notice your adorable puppies in your avatar. Are they Maltese? I have one named Jovie, and she's pretty much my baby (since my real baby is 7 years old now).

How much does Jovie weigh? She looks tiny compared to my heffer of a maltese.

James and I just got back a little bit ago from DLR. We had a really nice time just the two of us. But I am pooped!

:upsidedow

Thanks Amy, for an insider's view of it all. Isn't it late to be having a lot of plain of influenza? Wonder if our weird weather patterns are part of it?

Morning ladies.

Hi Christine, welcome to the group.

Callie your dog is cute!

The boys & I are headed out of town for the day.
We are going to watch the Apple Blossom parade & then head to Leavenworth. There is a very cool hat & clock shop there.

Have a great day girls!

Good Morning! I see that I am behind like 50 pages. Yikes. Just wanted to say hello. I have been having a little bit of fun lately. Went to ClaimJumpers with a couple of lady friends and completly blew any sort of diet of course. But had fun chatting and catching up, as I had not seen one of the ladies for quite a few months. Why o why do tball games last for 2 hours? They need a woman running that part of the league. Geesh! Other than that...just laundry and baseball for the rest of the weekend.

I'm jealous of your quick DLR trips, Stacie! Date Night at Disneyland is something I've always wanted to do.

Jovie weighs about 8.5 pounds, which is considered large for a registered maltese. She was the largest in her litter, which was why she was the last to be adopted. We actually wanted a larger one because I didn't want the kids to be able to easily hurt her.

We've been bonding the last few days because of a dog food scare we've gone through. The food I had her on (Nutro Lamb & Rice) was making her ill and I ended up hearing that it has made many, many other dogs ill as well. So, if anyone else is feeding their dogs Nutro, I would watch them closely!

Here's another pic of her right after grooming:

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences....it's so nice to see a child succeed even with such a rough start!! Our girls say mama & that's about it..... they say it to me & Mike...so not sure they're actually saying it to us or it's just a sound they can do.
Where did you buy the signing videos??? We went to Barnes & Noble (our only bookstore) & they don't carry them...so not sure where to get them. I'm definately a visual learner myself, so the flash cards we got our handy....I'd still like to see it in action.
How old is Nathan now? That really is wonderful news that his language took off!!!! Did he have other medical issues or was he just struggling with language?
Again, thanx for the uplifting story....it made me smile!!

GOOD MORNING DIVAS!!!!

Amy, I REALLY hope that this dies down soon too. I think all the media hype is making it more scary than it really is. I'll admit, I am worrying a bit about Maddie getting it. She has been sick with strep and that was no fun. :sad2:

I hope you get a much deserved break.

I thought that they were all really talking about watching TV.:lmao:I couldn't figure out why some ladies plan to watch tv with their DH's. LOL! NOW I get it! tee

I don't know 100% what moms with autistic children go through. I know that it gets tough. I just want you to know that I am always praying for you and the other ladies that are doing all they can for their babies and I hope that I can be as strong as you all if I ever had a child with autism.

joviegreen.jpg

Oh, she is adorable!! How old is she? Oh, she is so cute!!

Yep, those are Maltese in my avatar - Gracie is the little one at all of 5 lbs. She is about 16 yrs young. She was rescued from a puppymill and a life of horror at age 13..and she was pregnant with 3 puppies! She was our first puppymill baby and oh my, poor thing. BUT she is so darn happy (even before she started taking Valium, which she needs everyday just so she won't be scared all the time ...wish she could share that stuff sometimes;)) and the sweetest doglet I've ever met. Of course, she sleeps with me. :)

Jackie, 14 yrs young, is the larger one - she was dumped by her family at age 7 - will never figure out why b/c she's as sweet as can be! Not one personality flaw....think they were lovers of large doglets b/c they dumper her after their Rottie passed. Still, to leave her in the street when they moved is awful. I was volunteering with Maltese rescue and she was an emergency foster...we tried fostering 3 times, but we kept the pups every time..no more fostering for us. ;)

Okay, so waaay more than you wanted to know!!!

My goodness, you are all so welcoming! Thank you so much for the all the welcomes! :flower3: You are terrific!!

Have a GREAT Saturday!! :grouphug:
