Girls Only Trip (old planning thread, see link to new one in 1st post)

Aw, Laurie.:hug: I am sorry you had a rough day. You are doing a great job as a mom and don't let anyone make you feel inferior. You work hard at providing a good home to children who need it, along with love and emotional nourishment.

Your little twins are precious. I am not a psychologist AT ALL. But I do work with special needs children. The interesting thing I see with certain diagnosis is that sometimes they are wrong. The child will be on a certain therapy and the doc will be certain that this or that is wrong with the child...well, they are wrong sometimes. Your little girls are still little. Don't let what that nurse says make you feel like your girls are doomed. Your little one stood up and walked! After being told she would not be able to. That is amazing and those precious girls will show you more and more of what they CAN do. Don't let that nurse sell them short just yet.

Thank you so much.......I know I shouldn't let one persons opinion throw me like that, but it had some truth to it....... I know that I look at these girls thru rose-colored glasses...I only want the best for them. I can see where some of the milestones they're just now doing is appropriate for the 6-9 mth range but they ARE moving forward....so that's what I need to focus on.

I went out & got a book on baby signing so we can start working on some communication skills with them. It's going to be some time before they are able to tell us what they need or want. We've been doing just a few signs & they picked up the eat & more sign.....so it's a start.

Thank you for the warm welcomes!!!

Idaho???? Is that what people mean when they say the middle of nowhere? ;) I bet it's beautiful! MA is especially lovely in the Fall and summer. Were you able to go to the Cape? I was a nanny in 1998/99 & 99/2000. Closed my preschool b/c I wanted to do something different, but missed the munchkins. :)

Idaho is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I live in Boise, so at least I have a mall to go to. It even has a Disney Store.;)

Watch Napoleon Dynamite and you will get a nice eyeful of what its like in Idaho.:rotfl:

Got to get babies to bed..... not sure I'll be back on tonight..... so everyone have a wonderful evening & here's to a super weekend!!!!!!!!

Good night Laurie! Have a great Saturday with your family!

I am going to be on ChaCha tonight. Friday nights are smokin!

Got to get babies to bed..... not sure I'll be back on tonight..... so everyone have a wonderful evening & here's to a super weekend!!!!!!!!

Nighty night! Rest well...and give those darling babies a hug for us. They are precious! Love your photos!!

Christine

Hi ladies. I'm back. Just wanted to let you know I got home from a wonderful DL trip safe and sound. I'm exhausted and am not even going to attempt to re-read all the posts I missed!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!! :)

Happy Friday everyone.:cool1:
This was such a long week. I am so glad it is the weekend. :goodvibes

Jenn, my family is at the Grand Mother's Day weekend, too. I hope we can all hook up for a bit.;)

All you ladies talking about the limited TV watching time. I mentioned at Cheryl's slumber party that with my DH (he is 57), we have to "schedule" or "plan" the time usually a week ahead of time for the once-a-month event and they all seemed horrified at the thought of that.:scared1:Sorry, but that's how it is for us! I remember the "spontaneous" days, but they are long gone.:sad2:

Anyway, I'm getting my second glass of wine, cheers to a great weekend to all.:cutie:

I thought you might watch some TV in Vegas :confused3 :rolleyes1
We can hire someone in Vegas to watch tv with her. :rolleyes1
Maybe they'll offer THAT on the radio shopping show! :lmao:

Any of you married ladies notice that when you get married your TV watching days start to dwindle?
You just need to pick the right shows to watch. ;)

Well ya had to watch TV twice
:rotfl2:
:lmao: :lmao:

So between the frustration of government red tape & not having a clue about their program & feeling sad.....it's been a rough day!!
Awww, Laurie. I'm so sorry you've had a rough day. Hang in there. We are all in awe of you and the wonderful things you are doing. :grouphug:

Oh, and where are my manners? Welcome to Miss Christine. Your little Sophia (grandbaby?) is sure a doll! You are a brave girl flying all the way from the East Coast to visit DL. I think it is awesome!:cheer2:

Good Evening everyone!

Just spent the last several hours (with but a few interruptions ;) ) reading every page of this delightful thread - not easy when the thread kept growing as I tried to catch up! :thumbsup2

After a while, one page merged into another in this ole' brain, but most important, what came through loud and clear is what a beautiful group of women inside and out. ::yes::

If you have room for one more, I would love to join you all for the Annual Girls Only Disneyland Trip! It would be a dream come true for me. :cloud9:

DL has always been my favorite, but our last visit was 1996! My children grew up (how dare them!!) and not one friend is interested in anything Disney  as impossible as that seems to me! :confused3 (still wonderful friends though).

I must warn you..I'm almost as old as dirt, but very young at heart (due to hanging out with 2/3 yr olds for 20+ yrs).:hippie: First visit to DL was 1958 when we lived in Oxnard and many visits until that last trip waaay too many years ago. :sad2:

I'm so sorry I missed the exchange - must have been fun!

Let's see...things to do...anything and everything ::yes:: except I'm a bonafide wimp, so will be a willing coat holder for TOT, Splash Mtn etc...hey, Soarin' is my thrill ride and I peek through closed eyes some of the time. :guilty:

Would love to have a roomie, and especially stay on site for the first time. :) Not crazy about HoJo's as we had a rather bad experience there and it's kind of a hike walking...CCI is a fav though, if anyone is staying there. Of course, flexibility will become my middle name. ;) A rollaway would be great.

Will try to post a photo - if anyone can photoshop it that would be terrific - not sure the others in the photo would want to be on the DIS. ;)

Anyone here not on the 'other' coast? ;)

Christine

p.s.I'm sorry...this is the only photo I can find right now. Can't believe I am doing this!!

Hello Christine and welcome!!

WelcomeBakedCake.gif

'Course I probably would have eaten it too, so it's just as well. ;)

Anyway, there is absolutely room for more. I cannot believe you read this whole thread. LOL Now that's impressive. So I'm sure you saw the pics on the first page from the last trip.

We don't have too many plans going on just yet. Still a bit early, but definitely mark those dates on your calendar so you'll have that time ready to go. In the meantime, just jump right in and get to know everyone. If you ever have any specific questions, feel free to PM me or just ask here on the thread. :)

Oh, and I love your pic. Thanks for posting that. It's a little small and I'm not sure how to change that, so if you find another one that's a little bit bigger, I'll happily add you to the front page with the other Divas. :thumbsup2

The planning is one thing. No biggie there really. But once a month?? Is it like a marathon?? ;)

Enjoy your wine!

Thank you for the nice welcome and for little Sophia. :) Yep, she's my one and only grandbaby...

Aw, a trip from NC to So Ca isn't bad at all. (Hawaii would be another story! ;) ). I am so excited to have found you all - have wanted to go back to DL for years and years, but would never go solo. Even found a nonstop from this little airport to SNA - wait - is John Wayne the closest airport to DL?

It will be so much fun getting to know everyone these next months!

And I would have loved that cake! :thumbsup2

Thank you so much for the nice welcome! I'm glad there is lots of time to plan and get to know one another. :)

Wish I had a better photo, but that's it. Funny thing is that it was larger, but re-sized it for some reason and now cannot find the original. It was a group of Disney friends getting together for a weekend NE Meet - we had a great time. I do have a goofy one of me in EPCOT - but it's pretty silly. Some CEO's were walking by and asked my friend and I to pose like Minnie so they could take a photo for us. Well, I am very shy about photos, but they talked me into doing it...it's really silly. Anyway, I'm not sure it's any larger than the other one...and too silly. All your photos are lovely!

Thanks again! :flower3:

Welcome to you, Minnie and Nanna... what a beautiful angelbaby!
I'm a grandma too so i know how much she must mean to you!
I'm glad you found our thread. And I can't wait to get to know you.

It's been a long day... i'm going to sleepytown.

Well, you came in at a perfect time. You'll be here right from the beginning for all the planning and chaos. :rotfl:

Maybe someone more talented then I on the computer can figure out how to enlarge the photo. If not, no worries. But if you come across another, just let me know.

Hmmmm, now I really want cake....... :rolleyes1

It has seemed like a long day. I'm tired too.
Night Dawn.

I'm going to get the kiddos in bed now. Talk to y'all tomorrow!

Thank you for the welcome and sweet words about Sophia - she sure is my little angelbaby.:lovestruc

I am so looking forward to getting to know you too. :)

Good night and rest well!

Night, everyone!

No Cheryl, no. Don't go buy one of the cutest puppies ever born. You are a fool, who needs a dog....eeeewwwwwwww, slobber!!

How'd it work? Are they Pembrokes or Cardigans? Male/Female? Reds, tris or what? Did you get the photos I sent of my beast???

AmySue

It's a Pembroke (I think) red--two males and one female are available. I thought I had talked myself out of it because I didn't know what I would do with a puppy all day long while at work--then my landlord/best friend from law school walks in and says "no problem--just bring he/she to work"--he wants to do the same thing to train a service dog. We are a very "dog friendly" office--he's even tried to get me to bring Chase to the office! I'm just going back and forth--so I'm not going to do anything until I'm SURE. (but gosh are they cute dogs)

Hi everyone....sorry I'm totally out of the loop today.
We spent a large portion of our day at the Social Security office looking into getting the twins disability benefits......wow, what a process especially since they didn't let me get new cards for the girls when we adopted them. The gal we spoke to told me I couldn't do it until we had their new birth certificates. The lawyer told us the state was so back logged on them, that it would be about 10 mths before we got them.......great...now what? So today the lady said they could get it without the birth certificate as long as we had medical records with the new name & their birthdate. So we went to go get that & the dr took a long weekend :headache: so now we'll have to wait until next friday before we can go back in.... ugh, what a pain.

I knew nothing about disability with social security, but one of the nurses that comes & helps with the girls jumped me for not looking into this before now :confused3 ok...????? She also is signing us up for a state program where we will be put on a waiting list & when our time comes up, we get monies thru grants to purchase equipment, pay for respite, or whatever else we need to take care of.

I think yesterday was an eye opener for us. The nurse also talked with us for quite a while & observed the girls & came to the conclusion that motor skills are about 12-14 mths (which we somewhat figured looking at milestones & such) but she said their cognative was that of a 6-9 mth old. I was stunned & then it really hit today....... :sad1: I know they're delayed but I just ache at the thought of them going thru life being different than everyone else. It just breaks my heart. We truly hoped that being in a stable, loving home with parents & siblings with normal intelligence would help break the cycle that runs very deep in their birth family.

So between the frustration of government red tape & not having a clue about their program & feeling sad.....it's been a rough day!!

I hope everyone else had a good day (haven't had time to read thru everything)!!

The highlight of the day was hearing my exchange person got their package today  and she LIKED it!!!!

No no--she didn't like it--she LOVED it! sorry your day wasn't great but tomorrow will be.

So... it's 9:16  I'm going to bed! I've been writing this ding dang paper since 7am. I deserve it!

Yes, you do! And I'm just glad someone younger than me is actually going to bed earlier than I usually do!

Do you like lighthouses??? I absolutely love lighthouses!!!! We were able to take a roadtrip in November up the Ca and Oregon coast and stopped at all the lighthouses along the way. Now I just home to make the east cost ones as well.

Love love love lighthouses! They're romantic I think.

Thank you for the nice welcome and for little Sophia. :) Yep, she's my one and only grandbaby...

Hi Christine--I'm Cheryl--welcome to the Divas. Yes, SNA is the closest airport to Disneyland. congrats on finding a nonstop--I hate changing planes! (actually I hate takeoffs and landings, so reducing them is good!) Looking forward to getting to know you!

Ok--going to check a few other threads and then it's off to beddy bye for me too!

I'm sorry you had a bad day! Thankfully, it is almost over, and tomorrow is a brand new beginning!

Hi ladies. I'm back. Just wanted to let you know I got home from a wonderful DL trip safe and sound. I'm exhausted and am not even going to attempt to re-read all the posts I missed!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!! :)

Welcome home Courtney!

Well I think I'm off to bed pretty soon. Yep 9:00, and I'm going to bed. I live a wild and crazy life!!!

Laurie, sorry today was so rough. :sad2: I HATE government red tape. I have a disabled son and am currently trying to get him additional services. The amount of paperwork and phone calls you have to make is ridiculous! But I just stay focused on the end result - more help for my son!:) Baby sign is a great idea. We did it some but my son took more to PECS (picture exchange communication). That might be something to look into also.

Good Evening everyone!

:welcome:Welcome Christine! :woohoo: My name is Becci. I can't believe you read through this entire thread! That should get you some kind of prize! :rotfl:

Boy, you guys go to bed early! Maybe some are watching tv ...
I just got back from seeing the Wolferine movie. I love those actors but the writing and directing was a mess, just my opinion. Am looking forward to Star Trek, that is supposed to be great.

I
On a different note, do those roll over minute commercials with the neurotic mother bother anyone else? I can see how the son would be bothersome, and the mother's behavior was acceptable in the first one, but the newest one where she's in the car is just plain old annoying. It makes my skin crawl. I feel like it always comes on during the channels that I DVR. :headache:

I know this was from earlier but I am so glad to know I'm not the only one who hates that commercial. All of those in the series. It is only second to the original 1800dentist commercials where the woman would scould the viewer.

Any of you married ladies notice that when you get married your TV watching days start to dwindle? What's up with that...is it in tiny print in the marriage license or something?:headache:

:welcome::welcome::welcome: CHRISTINE!!!!

I'm fairly new to this group as well. 2010 will be my first official group with the Diva's, although I was lucky enough to meet some of them on my family trip in March. They are a WONDERFUL group of ladies! Oh and if you would like some company holding coats while they all do TOT I'll hang behind with you, that's not my kinda ride either. I'll even hang out during Splash Mountain as well.

I look forward to getting ot know you better. :):flower3:

Welcome Christine! And best of all, we have two more admitted RWs!!! (Ride Wimps!! - like me). Yea!!!

We can hire someone in Vegas to watch tv with her. :rolleyes1
Maybe they'll offer THAT on the radio shopping show! :lmao:
