Girls Only Trip (old planning thread, see link to new one in 1st post)

Better day Laurie?

Hope so...... I don't really have to deal with a thing today..... me likey!!!!

The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse just came on & I love watching the girls reaction..... they stop doing what ever they're up to at the time & get to the front room & smile & watch during the theme song........ LOVE THAT!!!! They do it everyday!!! :lovestruc

My babies love Mickey Mouse!!!!! :earboy2:

I'm jealous of your quick DLR trips, Stacie! Date Night at Disneyland is something I've always wanted to do.

Jovie weighs about 8.5 pounds, which is considered large for a registered maltese. She was the largest in her litter, which was why she was the last to be adopted. We actually wanted a larger one because I didn't want the kids to be able to easily hurt her.

We've been bonding the last few days because of a dog food scare we've gone through. The food I had her on (Nutro Lamb & Rice) was making her ill and I ended up hearing that it has made many, many other dogs ill as well. So, if anyone else is feeding their dogs Nutro, I would watch them closely!

Here's another pic of her right after grooming:

I missed this post and photo - Jovi is so pretty! I love the dark eyes against the white on Maltese. Jackie was 12 lbs when she came to us, so she is larger as well. She was born in So Africa and has done quite a lot of traveling.

How scary about the dog food! We feed a mixture of homemade and an organic grain free light food.

I'll try to find a better photo of my babies. ;)

Have to get the multiple quote thing down - keep forgetting to use it.

Boy, you guys go to bed early! Maybe some are watching tv ...
I just got back from seeing the Wolferine movie. I love those actors but the writing and directing was a mess, just my opinion. Am looking forward to Star Trek, that is supposed to be great.

Donna--your opinion of the Wolverine movie is consistent with the reviews I've seen . . . .

Oh gosh YES get the dog! I love my dog and can't imagine not having one. But what are you going to do with the dog when you're at Disneyland?

Yes, yes!! What do you ladies think about meeting at the Hearthstone Lounge on Saturday night, say, after bedtime? Like sometime after 9pm? Or is that too late? Too early? What'cha all thinking?

I haven't gotten the dog . .. yet --I have to work out some technical issues (like the Disneyland thingie you mentioned.) And I was thinking a late night girls meet-up in the Hearthstone Lounge too (or Napa Rose?) Linda--that ok with you?

watching tv.... :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I agree, we ride wimps need to stick together. We can take over with just a little organization....pirate:

I bow to our leader on this one . . ..:worship:

She's such a cutie . . . .sigh . . .maybe I'll go get the puppy today after all . . .. no no no stop--step away from the dog

<------- So I'm starting to think in over 1300 posts that I've never said anything noteworthy........ :scared1:

So what's the secret in getting some of my "Blonde-isms" tagged???? :confused3

Just hang around here long enough--some people have thousands of posts and have never been tagged, but eventually the Tag Fairy seems to find people here--usually with something they don't want (ask Stacerita)

Good job on training those babies!

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences....it's so nice to see a child succeed even with such a rough start!! Our girls say mama & that's about it..... they say it to me & Mike...so not sure they're actually saying it to us or it's just a sound they can do.
Where did you buy the signing videos??? We went to Barnes & Noble (our only bookstore) & they don't carry them...so not sure where to get them. I'm definately a visual learner myself, so the flash cards we got our handy....I'd still like to see it in action.
How old is Nathan now? That really is wonderful news that his language took off!!!! Did he have other medical issues or was he just struggling with language?
Again, thanx for the uplifting story....it made me smile!!

GOOD MORNING DIVAS!!!!

Hi again Laurie!

We use the 'Signing Times' videos. We usually watch one a day. We started out witht he Baby Signing Times series. There are four videos in that series. Here are their websites: http://www.signingtime.com/ and http://www.babysigningtime.com/ You can watch previews of each video here: http://www.babysigningtime.com/watch-previews/

I usually get the videos off of ebay though, there are several places on there that sell them much cheaper than on the website. I look on the website to decide which video to get, and then look for it on ebay. If I were you, I would get Baby signing times number one first to see if your girls like it. They really are very cute, and the songs are catchy. My 15 month old loves to dance to them.

Nathan does not have any medical problems, but was diagnosed with Autism in March. We are talking about starting PECS this summer. Nathan is still not good about asking for what he wants.

Anyway, I hope that helps, and if you need anythink let me know!

Heather

Oh and Nathan just started calling me Mama about a month ago. Up until then all adults were 'dad'. It feels sooo good to hear a 'mama' now! :)

Oh, I see....... I was just noticing how many people have them & I even saw someone with only a couple posts!!! Guess I'll be careful with what I say....lol

Awesome!!! Doesn't it just melt your heart when they say mama?!!!

Thank you for the websites....I'll check them out. The girls definately respond to music....so they might be just what we need!!

We worry about autism, knowing the 2 older siblings are severly autistic & the girls "tuning" out...to the point of not reacting to very loud noises...... but they also can be very engaging...so a little confused about it all.

Thanx for the help!!!

Hi ladies!!

Welcome Christine!! I think I'm one of the oldest ones here too. So don't feel too bad. Us oldies have to stick together. I have 2 grandsons, with another grandbaby on the way! :cloud9:

Heather, That is such good news on Nathan. :grouphug:

Laurie, Hang in there. You are absolutely amazing to give these children such a wonderful homelife. Bless you!

Welcome back Courtney. Happy Belated Birthday to you.

Cheryl, Corgies are cute. Good luck on the doggie decision.

Callie, Jovie is adorable!

Deb, have a fun day. Some day I want to go to Leavensworth. (sp?)

Morning to Beth our ring leader!

I need to boogie. Bye!

Ty is watching MMC right now too. I feel like I know every single episode by heart, so I'm loving the fact that it's a new one today!

Do your girls watch any of the other Playhouse Disney shows? We also watch Handy Manny, Little Einsteins and Imagination Movers. There are also some great CDs with all the music that I keep in the car.

Hi again! Jovie will be 3 years old on June 30. We also mix our kibble with homemade food and we use an herbal supplement called Missing Link. Unfortunately, the kibble we used was a poor choice (even though it came highly recommended from our agility group). Right now, we're trying out Natural Balance which is grain free. She's having a hard time taking any kibble right now and really just wants the chicken, bison and eggs we've been feeding her. ;)

I just can't imagine that there are many maltese needing rescuing out there. They are such perfect little dogs. :lovestruc

That is just the best news ever!!!

I still haven't heard Ty call me mama, but Dave claims that he does at times when I'm not right there to hear it. For example yesterday at Target I got separated from the 2 of them and Dave is positive that Ty said "Hi mama" as he waved to me from about 50 feet away.

But, now that he's got his tubes in hopefully we will begin to get caught up on his speech delay. Cognitively and socially he seems to be right on track, we just need to get him some more words!

Hey Jane! I bet he is saying Mama. He probably doesn't think he needs to say it when you are there because well, you are there!

I would try the signing videos also. They put the word up, say the word a million times while showing it various ways, and then they show children signing the word. Every person I've ever known to try them, says that they were wonderful. Also, back in the fall, when I was first starting to wory about all of this, Molly told me to put Blues Clues on. Her son's language took off with it. I know Ty's not autistic, but videos are easier for Nathan to learn from because he doesn't have to 'deal' with me...you know he doesn't have to look at me, and process my feelings, emotions, and words. A video is much easier for him because he can just concentrate on it.

OK, enough about that! I think I've spread the word enough for one day. :lmao:

Well that's good! Not having to deal with anything days are spectacular and spending time with the twins is wonderful... they sound just beautiful and way to go on training them on the Mickey Mouse thing :thumbsup2 :wizard:

Oh, yes, the oldies (and wall holders) must stick together! Of course, that doesn't mean to imply we're 'sticks in the mud'. :thumbsup2 Did that make any sense? :confused3

Oh, how exciting to have another grandbaby on the way!! Will you know boy or girl or be surprised?

Aww, poor baby. Unfortunately, there are loads of Maltese in need of loving homes. http://www.scmradoption.com/

The tubes are amazing! I am sure your sweet Ty will be calling Mama very soon!

When my Toby had his tubes, he was 4 - they waited too long in the '70's - so he needed speech therapy for about 2 yrs.. but he did catch up and was an excellent student. I'll never forget the day we came home from the procedure - he complained the TV was too loud. I wanted to leap for joy!! :yay:

Happy Saturday!!

Speaking of magical children, I actually just had a little "moment" to myself :sad1:. I am so frustrated writing this paper because my two nieces are at my parents house right now and I just spoke with them on the phone. I couldn't go play with them last night and I can't go play with them today because I'm writing this stupid thesis paper! My time here is precious I only have 2 months left! I sobbed on my pillow so no more Divas for long periods of time until I get this thing done! (realistically I'll need 5 minute breaks every couple of hours or I'll lose my concentration)

My nieces are Ellie, 8 (in a few weeks) and Kara, 2 and 1/2. Ellie is the Disney princess and Kara is Mickey Mouse. Last Halloween Kara was "Mickeeeh Moousssshh" and her costume had a big fat belly with squeaky ears! I'll have to post pics some time!

Aww, Bridgette, .

Your nieces must have been so cute!! Do post pictures (when you finish the paper ;) ) - it will give us all a smile!!

First off Welcome Christine. And just wanted to say that my mom is coming on the trip as well. This will be our 2nd trip and mom will be turning 65 while we are there. So she is in the older group as well. But let me tell you she is a lot of fun. She rides ToT and pretty much all the rides and right up there with all the youngins. She loves everything and we have a blast! We look forward to meeting you and I look forward to getting to know you on the boards. :)

Courtney welcome back and glad you had fun on your trip! :)

Laurie I am sorry you had a bad day but I agree with the others in that sometimes things get sticky but as always you are doing a GREAT job by those girls and I am sure it will all work out in the end. You are a GREAT mom! ((hugs)) and hang in there!

I don't know if I missed anyone else but if so I'm thinking of you all!

Anyway last night we just watched our movies while it rained like crazy here! We had pizza and watched Bride wars which was REALLY cute and Bottle Shock which if you like wine and esp if you are from CA it was neat because it is a true story about Napa Valley was really good! Then I watched this movie called Blindness which was kinda weird but ok. One of those kind of indie movies. I have uninvited left. That is that one where the girls dad marries the stepmom and then they are afraid that she murdered their mom or something. It was pretty mainstream a few months back. I am going to watch that one here in a few.

I am anxious to see Benjamin Button and Taken in a few weeks as those are the next on the list to come out! :)

Otherwise nothing else going on this weekend. I have to REALLY appreciate it too cuz next week it is on! We have time trials which actually shouldn't be TOO bad cuz usually they aren't as long as a regular meet but we have a LOT more kids in this swim team then we did in my last team and I am an age group parent which means I work in the tent that is responsible for all the kids getting them to the blocks etc. It is a LOT of work. We have to get there fairly early and keep track of the kids all day till the meet is over. They say on this team that it isn't that big of a deal but on our last team it was a LOT of work. I don't know I take it pretty seriously but the mom I talked to said it is their responsibility once they get to the blocks but they are still pretty young at 7 and 8 and I don't like to just dump them off. Esp with relays. I know the last 2 years we had to stay and help them out or else there was problems but she assured me it was no big deal. Well I'm sorry but if we hadn't stayed and helped them last year there would have been screw up's. I guess we shall see. But regardless it is a lot.

I will be very interested to see how this team is compared to our other team. Maybe it will be run better. Hopefully that will be the case cuz I know with the last one by the time I was done I was dead meat LOL.

Anyway that's it for me. I am going to go watch my movie. Hope you all have a good day and talk to you all later. :)

Hi again Laurie!

Oh and Nathan just started calling me Mama about a month ago. Up until then all adults were 'dad'. It feels sooo good to hear a 'mama' now! :)

Oh Heather that is so awesome!! I remember that tug on your heart strings feeling. Nothing like it in the world....at least, not until it becomes "i wuv you mommy". Cried the first time each of my kids said that.

I thought Bride Wars was cute too. I enjoyed Bottle Shock, but for some reason, everytime I see that English actor (I don't know the actors name) in movies, all I can think of is when he played Professor Snape from Harry Potter :confused3.

I really enjoyed Taken, it was a bit violent, but a good movie. I really like Liam Nesson (sp?). Benjamin Button was good but some parts were slow moving, but it was a very interesting story plot. I have a friend who is an Academy member so he gets copies of most movies when they are out in theaters, otherwise I wouldn't see 1/4 of the movies I have seen. So we have movie night at our house almost every night .

Enjoy the rest of your movies :thumbsup2.

Morning ladies!!

I read back but forgot to quote and now can't remember anything.....

Callie, Jovie is so cute!

Heather, that's great news about Nathan!

Amy, I think you should share your tag story. popcorn::

Those without tags, hang around here long enough and it will happen.

Stacie, glad you had fun at DL.

Tracey, glad you've been getting out and having some fun.

Uhhhh, that's all I can remember.

I woke up at 6:30 this morning and was struck with inspiration to clean out the walk in closet that Ruben and I share. So I spent two hours doing that, and some other light cleaning around the house and am now ready to go back to bed.

Hope you are all having a good day so far. We don't have any real plans. Just taking it easy right now.

Later!!
