*Girls DL Trip* OLD THREAD

I hope everyone is having a good day so far.

We've got several of the kid's friends coming over later this evening. We're going to have pizza, dessert and then a dance party for them.

Ruben has stuff that he's bought over the years at club auctions and other places. Strobe lights, black lights, fog machines, disco ball (more ball talk!), some colored disco lights, etc. so every now and then we bring it all out, crank up the music and let the kids go wild.

I'm sure I'll need an aspirin afterward, but hopefully they will all have fun.

I'm outta here too. We saw Trek last night and I'm headed to the gym now.

Magic Mountain was 100 degrees yesterday!!

oh, but it was dry heat, right? Last time I was at Magic Mtn and DL is was 105 everyday...ungodly hot, but no humidity.

One day in that heat we walked from Santa Monica Pier to Venice Beach...strolled along the canals, then walked back stopping in many of the galleries along the way. I wound up with sun poisoning. Oh, well, it was still a great day. And we took the bus from/to Anahiem. Nuts.

Well I'm off to my second soccer game of the day. Boy, are these kids active! We have another one tomorrow morning at 9:00, and thenwe are off to Big Basin to meet the hikers with a delicious and refreshing lunch!

Oh no, I'm not in fabulous shape. But I'm in better shape than I was a year ago! I am grateful that the body doesn't give up on you, if you return to exercise.

Oh no, I'm not in fabulous shape. But I'm in better shape than I was a year ago! I am grateful that the body doesn't give up on you, if you return to exercise.

I have never heard of sun poisoning... do I want to know?

A hundred years ago I was a professional dancer, then continued to practice until MS made that rather difficult, so then I walked 3 to 6 miles a day...moved here, no walking, no exercise...time to get back to taking better care.

Sun poisoning is really just a lay term - I have absurdly sensitive skin and in that heat and sun had terrible hives (even with sunscreen), electrolyte imbalance and quickly needed some IV fluids. It's happened a few times so I try to be very careful - lots of fluid, try to stay out of the sun for prolonged periods etc - use common sense.

Waaay too much information!!

Just checking in! I started catching up earlier today but had to run... I helped my mom do her makeup and hair for this huge event that she's been working on for ages. I went shopping and got all of this stuff for her today before hand. She's been working so hard. She's the scrub nurse for my dad and they switched their practice to a private hospital about a year and a half ago and my mom was elected co-chair of the hospital gala fundraiser this year. Well she's been working her booty off and so she asked me to help her get all dolled up since I won't have the availability to do the girlie stuff so often soon. You all should have seen her! She looked so beautiful! She wore the dress that I wore in my sister's wedding a few months ago and she was stunning My dad was rather handsome as well. Oh I hope their night is going well.... I actually hope they're on their way home it's 10 here. I donated a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff for the silent auction so I hope that went well too. It all goes for a wonderful cause. She invited me at the last second, but my table manners are horrible! I would need a warning for that sort of thing.

My first round of ebay auctions was a success! I didn't have the strength to round off a number but its in the hundreds

I'm watching Twilight and Bella just wiped out on the ice that's one of my favorite parts!

Awe, that is so sweet you did that for your mom. I would think Breezy would do the same for me if the occasion arose. I am sure they are having a glorious time and raising lots of money. Glad the ebay aucitons are going well. We are watching Nascar from Charlotte, NC. I love NC, especially the Charlotte area.

Well, it almost got out of hand. One of the crazy parents were the only ones to show up. She was going on and on. She is such a whack job. We got the trophy and jammed out of there. Not good at all. There was a glitch in the system and I could not get my log in or student number to work. The instructor who was over seeing the class coulnd't fix it. She said only the one in charge of the program could. So I waited and waited. After about 1 1/2 hours I left. I alotted only 2 hours for the test before I had to be at the field. And the instructor never showed. So I emailed her and told her I would take both parts on Wednesday. I have one more final on Tuesday and two now on Wednesday. Graduation is Thursday.

Boy, are you guys GREAT parents! They must love you.

They better. LOL We had nine kids in here last night dancing, singing, laughing and screaming for three hours. Oy!

Ah, but it was so much fun. The kids had a blast!! They played guitar hero, then danced, ate pizza, and danced some more. At one point they discovered how highlighter markers shows up really cool under the black light so they were drawing graffiti all over their arms and holding it under the black light.

I also have this nail polish that goes on clear, but glows under the black light, so the girls all did their nails. They were trying to convince the boys to do it too, but they weren't having it. lol

I think their favorite though was the strobe light. They had so much fun putting it on different settings, cranking up the fog machine and then making funny dances. I just sat there and watched, laughing my butt off the whole time.

The neat thing was seeing the two older teen boys, who naturally are just too cool for anything, really getting into it. Especially when we played the YMCA song and ALL the kids, even the rap/rock music loving boys, screamed out the lyrics and did the motions. That was neat. Kids are still kids, no matter how cool they pretend to be.

Nope. We're actually the mean ones who don't let our kids watch R movies without an adult, who enforce a strict bedtime, who don't let the kids roam the neighborhood unattended, who don't serve Monster energy drinks, who insist on a helmet when riding a bike, and who have banned all Grand Theft Auto games.
All the other kids in the neighborhood don't have to do those things, so mine don't understand why we are so strict. Maybe one day they will. Until then, just call me meanie.

Well, I'm all caught up. Easy to do since it was super slow here this weekend. One of those rare times when everyone has a life I guess.


I woke up at 6 this morning and decided to make more balls! They've been a hit with everyone who's tried them so far, so I wanted to make different varieties to send in with Ruben to work.

I made 5 cakes this morning.

Red Velvet cake blended with cream cheese frosting.

French Vanilla cake blended with vanilla frosting.

Pineapple cake with pineapple pieces, coconut and macadamia nuts, blended with coconut frosting.

Carrot cake with raisins, pecans, and coconut, blended with cream cheese frosting.

Yellow cake blended with chocolate buttercream frosting.

Some cakes were from scratch, some a mix. Same with the frosting.


I am freezing the balls now and then I'm going to bag them up and dip a different one each day this week to send in to his work. We'll see which ones they like best.

Here is a pic of the ones I made the other day. I experimented with size, and I prefer the bite size ones. I have no clue if this is what they are supposed to look like or not. LOL And I need a better way to drizzle the topping over the balls. But for the first time, I think they came out ok. (They tasted good anyway, even if they look funny.)
One is cut open to show the inside.
