*Girls DL Trip* OLD THREAD

Well ladies do any of you remember the job I applied for that had a million steps just to get an interview :headache:. Well it's been a week since the interview and I got a letter in the mail that I'm one of the finalist and I have to go take a 3 hour test on May 28th . Okay, I know I really need a job, but this is really starting to become a bit much.

But I am flattered I've made it this far in the process. I guess I'm not a complete idiot .

Congrats!! That's very impressive to have made this far....no doubt you will ace the test. ::yes::

(When we first moved here, almost 3 yrs ago, I could not find a pre-school teaching position so after a year decided to apply to Borders - the on line application was 34 pages long!!! For a regular 'ole job at Borders. I figured they should hire anyone who got through the application. I never heard from them. :confused3)

Well mine is still going strong after about 32 years!! :cloud9:

Impossible. You couldn't have gotten married at 10.

Have a wonderful and safe trip, Callie! :goodvibes We'll miss you!

Ok ladies I know I'm way late on these replies but I'm trying... I have over 10 pages worth of catching up and I don't want to risk my internet freezing. So here's the first lot.

Welcome to the cult of the DisBoard Divas . . . . .

Well, right now I'm just trying to get through each day without a nervous breakdown. Leaving my parents is a huge deal. So, when I can't be with them I try to go to my "happy place" which is California, Disneyland, and the Divas are my link to talk about it. The Divas are also a HUGE part of my "Happy Place" :goodvibes

I'm really hoping New Moon is a better movie than Twilight was.

Me too! I still really like the movie, but on a completely different level than the book. I don't really associate them with one another actually its kind of weird. Maybe its just because they're so different.

Every time I read cake balls :goodvibes it just makes me giggle!!! :rotfl2:

oh lawd...no one wants schwetty balls......

:rotfl2: I just saw Benjamin Button again and my inner monologue has a New Awlens dialect ever since :lmao: Its kind of like when I watch or read Harry Potter again... my inner monologue has an English accent. Is that weird? Probably.

...because we don't have any...of course!:rotfl:

We bought new luggage after ten years of old mix-match suitcases last year. We got the Samonsite medium blue set with swivel wheels. All four wheels swivel. It's so easy to manuver and is very durable. We love it. A lot of department stores have 1/2 price sales several times a year.

I saw this grey vintage Mickey set at AAA last year and I wanted it so badly! I resisted because I didn't NEEEEED it. I really want it though. Maybe I can ask for it for Christmas this year from my family because as of right this second, there is nothing I absolutely need (which is awesome because I have my computer, camera and car... lets just hope they continue to function)

And you have to be hott.

Okay, we all qualify.

:yay:

::yes:: That's right! :lmao:

Morning all! It is a bit early here but we are about to go to the parade soon. Well yesterday didn't quite turn out as I had planned. I had a surprise call from Michelle yesterday which was awesome. She may come visit next weekend with her family!! :)

Then I had to work and mom and I went to lunch and were talking more about our trip. We are still having a hard time trying to figure out where to stay and we talked to a friend of her's who suggested some places but they seem kind of far from all the places we want to go and since we will be relying on mass transit I am not sure if that is a good idea. So we are now thinking about going and talking to a travel agent. It is just so hard going somewhere you have never been before! I don't want to end up being in a bad part of town or WAY far away from everything.

Anyway then I got a call from Shane and found out he hurt his back at work and was totally out of commission. GREAT! So he basically sat around at work and ended up leaving a few hours early so that he was home when I got home. I took him to the doctor and he pulled some muscles. So he is now on Soma and Darvocet. NOT good. Needless to say we did NOT go to the movies last night and just rented some and stayed home. We watched the Ghost Whisperer season Finale and then we rented Taken and one called Baby on Board which speaking of Balls you should rent it cuz it has a funny seen about that. It is a pretty funny comedy about having a baby. It is a bit raunchy though so def not for the kids. Rated R. Anyway then we also rented Australia which we will probably watch today after the parade. The bad thing is the lawn REALLY needed mowing since we weren't able to do it last week cuz of time trials and now shane can't do it cuz he is hurt. And we were going to start cleaning up the place in case Michelle came but I don't know how long Shane is going to be out of commission. Doc says it could be 1 or 2 weeks. I just hope he can work next week. NOT good timing that is for sure! I guess we will just have to see.

He says he is still going to the parade today and just ride in the truck but I told him he should stay home. We shall see. Otherwise we don't have much else this weekend. I really wanted to go to church cuz we haven't been in two weeks but I guess we will just have to see. Anyway that's bout it for us.

Hope everyone else is having a good weekend. Take care and talk soon.

Not weird at all. I know I do that too. I think lots of people do.

Kelly - sorry to hear about Shane. Hopefully he won't be laid up too long.

Im heading out to campus to take a final. I'm a little stressed, but Im pretty sure I will do well enough. Thankfully I will get the results once I hit "submit" on the exam.

I could so use a corn dog right now. Just sayin.

34 pages?!?!!!?

Thank you miss lady!! :goodvibes

:rotfl:

I'm not tired yet.. My Mom was watching the Farrah Fawcett special on TV right now and now she's crying. She said it was super sad. :sad1:

I avoided that show on purpose. They were showing bits of it on the Today Show during the week. So sad.

Just posting to say BUH-BYE gals! :wave2:

Kelly, I'm sorry to hear about Shane. Back pain is the worst!!!!!
How fun that Michelle might come for a visit! OK, who wants to come to San Jose for a visit? I'm lonely here!

Im heading out to campus to take a final. I'm a little stressed, but Im pretty sure I will do well enough. Thankfully I will get the results once I hit "submit" on the exam.

I could so use a corn dog right now. Just sayin.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, corn dogs.......

Good luck on your final. I'm sure you'll do great!

Well, I saw the backpackers off at 6:30 this morning, and then promptly wasted an hour playing Bejeweled Blitz on FB. I just found it last night, and am not happy to say that I am hooked on another time waster!

OK, I gotta pack my stuff up and get to the kids I'm hanging with this weekend. They've been home alone for a couple of hours, so I'm thinking they're ready for me.

Happy Saturday, girls!!!!!!!

Hey Kelly! You guys were so sweet to offer the invite, but if it's not going to work out for next weekend, I totally understand. I don't want to be a burden at all!! Tell Shane I hope he's feeling better. If he did it at work, won't worker's comp kick in? I'm kinda unfamiliar with it here in CA.
Oh, and I have 3 kids, remember, not a whole heck of a lot would surprise me as far as a "messy house"!
I have some ideas on Washington, we'll talk off the thread, though. Alexandria and Pentagon Square are good options, as long as they are right off the metro. Some places will also have shuttle service to the metro or even the "mall", too, you'd just have to ask.

Good Saturday Morning Ladies....Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!!!

Hope I haven't missed anything majorly important....did try to go back & scan & still saw a lot of talk about balls...... :rotfl:

Been doing the kid thing the last few days....I find it hard on the days hubby & son are at work all day...... oh how I love having adult company to talk to.
Beautiful weather here this weekend & supposed to be in the 90's (a bit hot...) but nice enough to kick kids out the back door!!! :thumbsup2

Katie, good luck. Sounds like the company is really into finding the right fit for the company and the job. The job that I got in October (that I then lost in Jan due to lay offs) was similar. I had a long questionaire, an interview, a testing, and then another testing. And, some of the questions seemed so unrelated to what I was going to do.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes on the job :flower3:.

By the way..........I'm a food snob. Butter is always better! And it supports the business that supports us! :rolleyes1 :thumbsup2

Night!

I much prefer butter and never buy margarine for the house. I think that's why I never thought to use it in my frosting.

BTW~ Loved all the smilies you used.

You didn't tell us you were trying out for the next Apprentice!

:lmao:

Congrats!

You'd think that's what I was applying for .

Hope his back gets better quickly :flower3:.

I'll be up that way the first week of August. We're heading to Northern Cali for my grandma's 80th birthday. The kids and I are going to do a road trip and stop at a few places on the way up. We were thinking of stopping at Paramount Great America or Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.

Yeah, I know they are trying to get a match and also trying to weed out the people who apply just to apply. I'm just not used to such a tedious job application process. I've only had 2 jobs in my life (I worked at one for 9 years and the other for 2 years) and it was just submitting a resume and then an interview.

Hi all, back from the parade. WHEW. That was crazy. Shane did end up going. I think he was nuts but he wanted to go. He is saying the drugs aren't really helping which I think is weird cuz those are pretty strong so if he is still feeling bad on Monday I told him he better call the doc. And yes Michelle he did hurt it at work but he didn't want to start a work comp claim just yet because he doesn't want to be off work and start that whole mess. They don't pay well and his union is in a big mess right now. Lots of lay offs and stuff and his job is tentative as it is. If he was out of work he might not HAVE a job when he came back. So he said he would rather just say he hurt it on his own then mess with it. He doesn't want to open up that whole can of worms if you know what I mean. Plus I don't know that it was actually "work" related. He just bent over to pick something up and it pulled. It was something he could have easily done anywhere if that makes sense. He just HAPPENED to be at work when it happenend if that makes sense. I have done that before too just getting out of bed. I am sure it will be better in a week or so if he just takes it easy.

Anyway I will let you know if he is feeling up to having company next weekend if you can give us a few days if that's ok. It is all up to him at this point if he is going to feel up to doing anything. I really only needed him to help me with the big stuff. We had a bunch of bags of stuff that we needed to take to goodwill and stuff that I needed help with cuz they are heavy and as I said the lawn hasn't been mowed in a few weeks and we have almost 2 acres so I can't do that myself. I would have a migraine for sure if I tried to do that. If it was a small yard maybe but just pulling on the cord would probably do me in. Our mower is old and you have to pull the cord a bunch of times just to get the stupid thing to start. We REALLY need to get a riding mower or a lawn service for this huge yard but haven't had the time or money to invest.

But anyway thanks so much to everyone for the well wishes to shane. I will def let him know.

Anyway the parade was fun. But my parents FINALLY were going to go and then this had to happen. First shane and then my dad came over and his eye started bothering him. He has a lot of health issues too and he ended up having to go. He has been having stomach problems and hasn't been able to eat and has lost over 40 lbs and looks like a skeleton and just had a cat scan on Thursday and then he had a retinal tear in both of his eyes a year ago and THAT acted up on him again last night. We drove to the parade and he said his eye felt like it was bleeding. So mom and I had to drive him back home and he had to call the emergency opthamalogist. So he got an apt at 12:45 with his doc and then mom and I went BACK to the parade by ourselves. Then we were sitting there and of course their float was the very LAST one and mom had to pee and couldn't wait LOL. So she left to run to Denny's to pee and missed it LOL. But anyway here are a few pics.

This is them DURING the parade

100_3114.jpg

And this is all of them after.

I got pretty sunburned cuz I finally had to stand up and wait to watch for them cuz I was afraid I would miss them from where I was sitting in the shade LOL.

But anyway now we are home and just taking it easy cuz I am hotter than a fritter as my mom would say LOL and Shane is just resting his back. We were supposed to go to this mexican place and watch these mariachi's tonight but between my dad and Shane I don't know what's going on. Mom said we may just take the girls and go without these broken down old men LOL.

So not sure what will happen tonight or tomorrow but we shall see. Anyway hope everyone is having a good day! :)

:laughing::laughing::laughing:

They are a completely different shape from a ball (I'll leave it to your twisted imagination ).
A shape for Halloween? I think I know!! If it's what I think it is, Wendy will love them.

Where is January's smilie???

Steph ~ Safe travels home to you! Sorry it's going to be so busy when you get back. I love carrot cake. I have a recipe that I use to make it and the frosting from scratch. Problem is, I tend to want to eat it all then.

Katie ~ Congrats on making it so far!! But I totally know you are going to do great. Good luck on the test.

Tina ~ Have fun hanging out with the kiddos today!

Courtney ~ Enjoy the BBQ and grad party!

Stacie ~ Good luck on your final. Have fun at the ceremonies and the b-day party.

Callie ~ Take me with you!!! LOL Have fun, enjoy the cooler weather.

Kelly ~ Wow, I'm sorry about Shane's back. I hope he feels better soon. Back pain is nothing to mess with.
ETA: Cute pics! :)

Laurie ~ Did you kick those kids outside yet?? That's one thing I hate about being in Vegas. Can't kick the kids outside when it's 102 degrees out! So we spend lots of time indoors during the summer. :scared1:

I hope everyone is having a good day so far.

We've got several of the kid's friends coming over later this evening. We're going to have pizza, dessert and then a dance party for them. :dance3:

Ruben has stuff that he's bought over the years at club auctions and other places. Strobe lights, black lights, fog machines, disco ball (more ball talk!), some colored disco lights, etc. so every now and then we bring it all out, crank up the music and let the kids go wild. :thumbsup2

I'm sure I'll need an aspirin afterward, but hopefully they will all have fun.

Talk to y'all later.

Boy, are you guys GREAT parents! They must love you.party:

I'm outta here too. We saw Trek last night and I'm headed to the gym now.

Maybe that's why I like it so much . Do you have the cinnabon recipe? They must add something else because there's taste a little different to me. Or maybe it's because it's on a cinnamon roll :confused3.

My recipe that is supposed to be "just like cinnabons" is a little lighter on the cream cheese, and has 3 tbsp. real maple syrup in it. I am at work, so don't have access to the recipe.
I don't get to sleep in either. I have a final to take on campus tomorrow morning. Then I have to be at the softball field for Taylor's closing day ceremonies. And that afternoon, my BFF is throwing her son a birthday party. He's gonna be two. So I have a super busy day tomorrow. Have fun at the BBQ and Graduation.

Is this event going to get out of hand, like the game you talked about?:confused3:rotfl:

I am at work, so gotta go. But BALLS< BALLS< BALLS...just showing I have been paying attention.

Magic Mountain was 100 degrees yesterday!!

If you decide on Great America, let me know. It's about 20 minutes from my house. Also, FYI they sell Dole Whips there.

I hope everyone is having a good day so far.

100 degrees?!?!?! I hope you somehow had a good time!
And good job keeping up with the BALLS convo. It's the most important thing that's been going on on this thread for a while!!!!!

Well I'm off to my second soccer game of the day. Boy, are these kids active! We have another one tomorrow morning at 9:00, and thenwe are off to Big Basin to meet the hikers with a delicious and refreshing lunch!

Later Gaters!
