Girl Scout Cookies Price Increase

Around here the girls set up outside of Walmart and the Liquor store, LOL! I’ll try and make a donation to the troop rather than buy the cookies.
Here in Western Mass the girl scouts set up their tables outside marijuana dispensaries. When walking in one time, I asked a mom hanging out about it and she said sales were never better! Smart little girls!

My daughter was in the Girl Scouts circa 2003 for a few years but I don’t remember how much the cookies cost. DW says they’re $6 here now too.

I remember some years ago cub scouts were selling bags of popcorn for about $20. I think even the leader was embarrassed about the price. I must have looked shocked, in one nano-second the cubbie says "we take donations too".
Compared to $2 rolls of wrapping paper for $15, $10 popcorn tins for $30, and fundraisers of that ilk, Girl Scout cookies for $6 isn't so big a deal. And like I said, in my council, they're still $4.

In Boy Scouts we only had one fundraiser a year. And it was a good one. Pancake Breakfast. We never sold the popcorn.

Our DGDs had a school fundraiser. bunch of stuff. I bought some candy like gummie worms. I think the packs at the dollar store are bigger and the cost was $10. Worst of it all, those who raised x amount got to take limo to a pizza party. The Limo was like a short school bus painted black. They said the limo was broken. I say it was bait and switch.

I much rather give $10 , buy my own stuff, than have the cookie, candy, wrapping paper people get 80% of the money.

We had one of those party things for selling some sort of coupon books. And they required the kids to sell to get the party. Donations didn't count. Pffft. What they were selling was a rip off. Furthermore, they told our school we'd be the exclusive sellers in our area. Other schools got it to sell two weeks before so everyone had already bought one. Lying sacks of crap.

BUYING a box GS cookies is making a donation to the GS. The cookies are the gift but it's price set. If you really want your favorite cookies at a reasonable price then it's not a GS cookie!

Just ordered 2 boxes at $6.00 from a neighbor's daughter. They left a flyer in our mailbox with the Mom's cell phone number. Our local train station (PATCO SPEEDLINE) would have a Troop every Friday for a couple of weeks selling cookies. When I was using the train I'd buy a box or 2.
May buy another box if any Troop is hanging at our Acme when I'm shopping

Ours went up in Chicago this year to $6. My twins are selling, but the window for us was December 15- January 15 (tomorrow)--so mostly over the holidays and now it's COLD this weekend. They went out yesterday but they're going to be a little short.

For people who are wondering about the money, some of the things my girls have done include going to Camporee, which is organized by older scouts to plan programming for the younger scouts. We also went on a family campout and the girls went to an outdoor ropes course. There are other things too, like we did a campout at the Field Museum in the city, where they pay for any girls who can't afford it (the rest of us pay our way for those things).

If you want to buy some, I think I can message you a link? One of my twins is behind her sister. I just have them switch off forms after the first year when I let everyone buy from two cute kindergartners and then realized that we had to sort everything by girl/form and then put them all back together at the end. Never again. Pick a girl and I try to even it out at the end.

I had hardened my heart, and was fully prepared to just give a donation, not buy any cookies. Then, DD20 called to say that her BFF's little sister, who DD20 babysits for, is a Daisy Scout and selling in our neighborhood. My heart unhardens--the kid is cute as a button, and who could say no to a 6yo? After some grueling questioning (which one is your favorite?), I bought 4 boxes AND made a donation to her troop.

P.S. They were $5 a box.

My kids come to school with me and sell when they have a day off (no one else has GS to my knowledge). Teachers ask many questions, then force you to tell them how many boxes and how much it will cost. They're surprised whenever someone doesn't grill them.

Well, these two well-schooled salespeople were 6, and had the attention span of a gnat! Cute as they come, though. Plus, we're friendly with the mom, so we were chatting a bit--I can see why the girls lost interest.
