Girl Scout Cookies Price Increase

I would like to point something out. All of us. Everyone damn one of us on this thread is joined by one thing: our love of Girl Scout cookies. Something that is so uniquely American. Girl Scout cookies transcends politics, religion, locale, everything. THAT makes me proud to be an American.
Love them? I don’t even like them. They were 100% bought just to be supportive of the little girl who lives on our street. I’ve only ever bought them once before, probably about 15 years ago, so I might try one for old time’s sake when they come in before passing them off to my kids.

My nephew's daughter makes a video and posts it to Facebook about selling cookies. The price has now jumped to $6 in our area also. Now that my kids have moved out I usually offer to buy them a couple of boxes but they said they didn't want any, I don't need any, so I probably won't buy them this year.

When my son was stationed in Alaska I would have a cookie drive and ship them up to him. I usually collected enough that he could pass out 2 boxes to each guy in his platoon and his sergeant. I would send him a box with just his favorites in for him to keep. He sent me a picture once of his cabinet, it was full of GS cookies and the chili I would send him.😄 Always had to send his favorites.

The prices near me are still $4 or $5 per box, but the shrinkflation has hit hard. The boxes seem tiny compared to what they used to be.

I've never had any Girl Scout cookies and probably will not in the future. That price seems dang high and the boxes look pretty small at that.

After the bakers are paid and the council gets their cut, I've read that the TROOPS of girls get 50 cents a box. I'd much rather hand them a $5 bill to put towards their activities than buy what would be 10 boxes ($60) of cookies for them to raise that money.
We get close to $1 per box. But there are also individual rewards too. My daughter sold enough boxes 1000+ last year to pay for 75% of her overnight camp. It was a lot of work though. 3-4 booths every weekend, plus our booth in our driveway.

I've never been a fan of GS cookies. The prices continue to go up and the number of cookies goes down. Dh enjoys the Thin Mints so he will buy a box or two of those when the GS are outside the Walmart or grocery store. I never buy any and I also rarely carry cash.

Thin Mints!
I would pay whatever if only I could find them.
Now that I think on it a local troop sells them on line….

My niece sells them so I will definitely buy a bunch from her. I don’t recall the cost last year and haven’t heard this year. I also generally buy 2 boxes from any kid that knocks on my door—some years that’s a few kids and other years that’s none.

My DH likes them—especially thin mints and some lemon ones. My kids like the Tagalongs. I think there are way better cookies out there and I don’t need to be eating cookies anyway.

We still have 2 boxes in the freezer from last year.

They were $6 in my current town last year. So I bought $5 boxes from a distant relative back in my hometown instead! Sorry, local scouts.

In all seriousness I like Girl Scout cookies but they are a tremendously poor value. A standard 18.2 oz package of Chips Ahoy costs $USD4.58 at Walmart which works out to 25.2 cents per ounce. Not a bad value for a mass produced cookie. If a 9 oz box of Girl Scout thin mints costs $USD6, that works out to be 66.7 cents per ounce, which is a horrible value. Sorry Girl Scouts, you're too rich for my blood.

Just bought Girl Scout cookies last week. $6/box. I ordered 4 boxes. I would usually order more but $6/box is a lot for a box of cookies. Can't say no to the little girl next door.

Plain and simple! Yes I will still buy them. When it's for a good cause I do not analyze the cost, especially under $10. It's not like I am buying 100 boxes, we usually buy around 6 boxes.

No way. I will happily give them money but putting a box of those cookies in front of me is dangerous.

Old friends of mine had a daughter who was in scouting for a while. The mom was pretty involved and managed the cookie sale for their....troop? is that the right word? Anyway, I happened to stop by once when the cookies were delivered and it looked something like this. I've never seen so many cookies in one place.download.jpeg

Not me. I've bought maybe twice in last twenty years from a good friends daughter. They send an email, you buy, it gets shipped to you. Never even saw the Scout. The cookies are average other than Thin Mints but most are available in stores under a different label. The cookies might be American but children selling goods door to door or on sidewalks happens everywhere. I wish the children's groups would find other ways to raise money. :sad1:

NOTE: My Mom was a leader before she ever married so of course I was in Scouts ... for a long time ...

That's great. I wonder if different Councils maintain different percentages depending on how much they cover in their budgets and the size of Councils.

This is us the past number of years - we'll gladly support the cause without eating the cookies!! Oh, I might sneak an actual box every now and then, but mostly we give the money calories-free...!

I know, I was just joking around and having a bit of fun given some of the most controversial threads recently (Epstein, anyone?).

I'm really curious how much Girl Scouts raises nationwide with those cookies.

Totally 80s! Pic from GS site.

$1.65 sticks in my head for when I was selling them around 1980-82.
