Ginger pills

I tried posting this earlier so I hope this isn't a double.

I bought my ginger pills at Wal-Mart but I'm not sure of the dosage. So far I have not had any side affects. Any of the spinning rides have been out of the question but I don't feel like I'm missing anything by not going on the Tea Cups. Also, RnR with the corkscrew turns and EE at the point it goes in reverse are not good. Love the rides but not the after effects. So my goal for this ginger pill experiment is to be able to ride RnR and EE with my family without feeling badly the rest of the day. I will give a full update when we return. WDW in 4 days!

I can't wait for your update. We have a similar ride to the Tea Cups at Six Flags over Texas. My DS's love it, but since I know I would get sick on it, they usually ride with my father in law. Even watching it, makes me dizy and queezy. If you do ok on the Tea Cups with the ginger pills, then I might give it a try using them.

I don't know about prevention, but a ginger ale will work great when you feel the first stirring. Peppermints are also a great and easliy carried way of combating nausea. (Why do you think you see them at the check out stands of so many restaurants?)

This is the first I've heard of this - is there a special formula ginger pill, or (as PP mentioned any ginger products) can you eat some dried or crystallized ginger, etc? Like ginger ale, can you take it as you're feeling ill, or is it too late then? TIA!

I usually get really seasick on small boats. Last year I was in Grand Cayman and knew that I wanted to take a boat out to see the stingrays. So, I took ginger pills before we went and also took some ginger candy to suck on. I also wore Sea Bands on my wrists. I didn't get sick at all! Our boat actually ended up breaking down, and we bobbed around in the water for a while, and I was fine. I bought my ginger pills at GNC. I just took a couple in the morning before we got on the boat. I used them on our trip to WDW last month, too. I still felt the backwards motion of EE, but I didn't get sick to my stomach. I think that as long as you aren't allergic to ginger, you should give the pills a shot! I think that having ginger candy to suck on really helps, too.

Oh, and as an aside, it helps me a lot to make sure that my stomach isn't empty if I am going to go on something that might make me feel motion sickness, even a car ride on curvy rodes. Of course, I don't want to be stuffed, but I think that if I feel even the slightest bit hungry, it makes me get nauseous more quickly. HTH!

How much is too much? I have had a problem with motion sickness since I was too young to even realize. I am willing to do anything to prevent it. I would love to make it through a day at the park without feeling sick. So, with this said....can I take 1-2 ginger pills twice a day & also try the ginger chews or ginger altoids throughout the day too?

The ONLY thing that works for sure for me is Bonine. ANYTHING else and I am done for the day. I get sick riding in the front seat of a car. I did TT and RNC with out, and PAID for it. I will get really dizzy and be good for nothing but a nap with my foot on the floor in a quiet dark room. I get so seasick that I hurl (sorry) about a mile out. I also get really sleepy with any med. So...I get up in the am, and about 1 hour before we go out for the day, I pop a Bonine, eat something, have a cup of joe, and off we go. I rode soarin' no problem, and that would've killed me. If I get sleepy later, I drink a diet coke, and again, good to go.
Bonine:thumbsup2

I'm sold! I'm adding this to the list of tips I'm preparing for all the first-timers in our Grand Gathering--10 of them!

OK, I will plan on picking up some ginger before heading out. You all have convinced me to give it a try.

I have never used Bonine but have the less drowsy dramamine. Can one of you who have Bonine check the active ingredient for comparison... Less drowsy Dramamine contains 25 mg meclazine HCL

Thanks!

I am a Dramimine and Bonine veteran - need it for airplanes and just forget about a boat..., but, I am pregnant now, and cannot take those. I flew quite a bit in the last few weeks and took Ginger pills, a couple a day, and wore sea bands, and sucked on mints before take off, and no issues, and no sleepy side effect either. And, some of those flights were rough. So, I am pretty convinced on the Ginger (even if the other things helped too).

I noticed that we now have Gravol with Ginger available at our Wal Mart...too bad Gravol makes you soooo sleepy!! LOL

I suffer from motion sickness to the point that certain games will actually make me sick watching them. When we drove from Philly to Orlando several years ago I took candied ginger with me to chew on. It did help but can burn ones taste buds as it is rather spicy. Ginger Ale worked just as well for the nausea. When we go down in October I will have to try the ginger pills so I am not miserable.

I wanted to update on my original post on my ginger pill experience. We were scheduled to go to AK for EMH and wanted to do EE first thing in the morning. I took a Bonine the night before and a ginger pill first thing in the morning with a glass of milk. I also took a few ginger pills with me just in case. I rode EE and it worked great! I did need to get some fresh air and not linger in the gift shop area but otherwise I felt great the rest of the day. EE is a great ride! That night we went to HS and I took another ginger pill in prep for RnR. Also worked great! I didn't want to look through the shop after because I felt I needed to just re-focus but the feeling went away within 2-3 minutes. I had ridden Tower of Terror prior to RnR and felt up to going back for another round. Ginger pills are amazing.

Would love to get someone's experience with this.

You aren't supposed to take quite that much, but I don't know if there is a health risk or not. You may want to consult a physician. :)

Pepermints are given at restaurants for breath, not nausea.

Dramamine II (less drowsy formula), Bonine, and Antivert are all the same drug. All contain Meclazine HCL, dont' know the dosage.

We took Ginger pills and Bonine on our cruise. The only night we were sick is the day we didn't take the Ginger pills. I will be bringing them to WDW!

I'm glad that the ginger pills worked for the OP and allowed you to have such a great time!

I wanted to add that not only is peppermint good to freshen your breath, but it aids in digestion. I think that is also why it is eaten after meals.
