we just got back from our first cruise. Two times there were gift baskets in our room filled with snacks, bottled water and stuffed mickey's. Also the characters were asking our kids what stateroom they were in. Are the gifts initiated by the characters? Is this something pretty typical? They were both signed guest services. I wasn't sure if we should tip someone more.

We had a few gifts delivered by guest services, but we also had "service issues" on our cruise.

Sounds like some of that magical pixie dust to me. Be happy.

January 2015 went on a cruise for my wife's 60th birthday with our adult children and their families. There was a delay for some reason waiting to get off the ship for one of our excursions. Our 2 year old granddaughter ended up getting ahold of the crew members microphone and started singing (including Let it Go). When they got back to their stateroom later that day, they found a plush platypus along with a certificate naming her the Entertainer of the Day.

Did you board first?

IOW, were you "Family of the Day"

This sounds like treatment associated with the "family of the day." IME

Did you book with TA, Dreams Unlimited?

Did you have an incident/poor service that you mentioned to Guest Services?
Occasionally they try to appease pax with sweets, products, and whatnot.

Of course these are just potential reasons why you may have had these products delivered.
But not the only reasons.
Did they make you sign a photo release prior to debarkation? :scratchin
