What do you usually get for your stateroom host? Do you leave something daily, or just at the end of the cruise?

From the horse's (in other words, DCL CMs) mouth: they will thank you for anything you give them, but keep in mind their personal space on the ship is small so the gift that they really appreciate is additional cash in the tip as well as a mention in the guest survey (by name) at the end of the cruise. DCL uses this info for extra time off and promotions.

Many CMs send money home from the ship as they work, so money is great. '

Tips are handed out at the end of the cruise.

:cutie:

We prepaid our tips so at the last night we put in the coupon that they give you when you prepaid and some extra cash. We also left him a HUGE bag off M&M's!! Boy was he happy with us the next morning!!

We give an extra $$ tip if it has been earned, but also give a bag of Hershey chocolates with our tip. We do the same with our servers and a bag of candy when we drop off our items to be autographed at Guest Services. We also get great big smiles and thank yous for the candy - they really seem to enjoy it!

We do the same...right down to the Hershey candy! DH works for Hershey, so it's fun to give something from 'home' in addition to extra $. :goodvibes

The official rule is that CMs are not allowed to accept 'individual' gifts.
Cash is probably your best bet.

Can someone clarify what services the Stateroom hosts are providing that warrant additional consideration? I'm not trying to be a curmudgeon, just feeling like we missed something. There was a female maid who did a great job of cleaning our room, so the extent of our male stateroom host's duties seemed to consist of dropping off the Navigators and making towel animals. We tipped the room service staff dropping off Mickey bars, and gave a few dollars to the woman who was cleaning when we stopped by our room during the day, but didn't leave anything other than the recommended amount for the host. Does the room host pass on a portion of their tip to the cleaning staff?

You might have been in a training situation. In the regular (not concierge) cabins, the host IS the cleaning staff. There is one person who does your room normally, and he/she does everything--cleaning, turndown service, delivering of the navigators, replacing toiletries when empty, and removing luggage on the last night. There is an addition person who takes the "after hours" shift from the middle of the afternoon to the start of regular evening duties should you have any needs during that time.

I'm with the others--no gifts unless they are edible treats or extra $ in the tip. The CM cabins are very small with little space for personal items, and at the end of their contract everything must fit in their luggage. "Stuff" they don't need. The best thing is a mention in the evaluation at the end of the cruise if they were truly "Magical."

When I'm doing a DIS fish-extender gift exchange, I always bring a gift bag and all the candy I receive during the week goes into that, along with whatever paperback book I read and is given to the stateroom host to keep or trade as they see fit! ;)

I'm a boost-the-tip person, but I think I'll also bring some candy bars this next trip to wrap a buck or two around for the room service tip.

.

Anyone want to take a guess on the cheapest room cost for 2 ppl excluding trip insurance on the the Fantasy at the cheapest time of year to cruise? Hope my ? Is clear

Usually recommended that they be packaged and sealed manufactured items - no homemade treats.

Clear, but in the wrong place. You may want to start your own thread with this question, as the topic on this one relates to gifts for stateroom hosts. A thread with your topic listed will attract the people who will have answers for you. :thumbsup2

I love the room service + candybar tip. I think I will copy you on that. As for the book to keep or trade... never thought of that. Umm... how do you find the time to read :rolleyes1:rolleyes1 I always leave forgetting that RELAX part of my trip!

We'll be on the Dream for Christmas - would it be ok to give our servers & stateroom host a Christmas card with some additional cash on Christmas day or do I have to wait until the last day of the cruise and add it to their tip? I just want to give them something on Christmas day. :confused3

Some people tip at the begining or throughout the trip. Cash is welcome anytime. With many nationalities and religions on the ships your host may not celebrate Christmas.

Absolutely, it is OK. Even if they don't celebrate Christmas as part of their culture or religion, there's nothing wrong with sharing some of your celebration with them. They are going to be experiencing "Disney Christmas" for more than a month on the ship!

Over the years we have given swarovski beaded crystal bracelets to some of the femail cast members to gift cards at Target, Wal Mart, and McDonalds. We have even taken t-shirts with our hometown college on it for special cast members. But, we have also listened and read and agree that the extra cash is a big perk! They all seemed to like the gift cards. There is also a local shop that makes microwave popcorn and the packaging has our hometown on it...they have enjoyed that also.
For the Merchandise team and Guest Services team we did up packages of the popcorn and a couple of movies for them to have as movie nights as teams. This went over HUGE! They were undergoing some technical issues and weren't getting ANY movies in their cabins...so they were desperate for some of that!
I love the candy ideas...especially for room service!!! Thanks for the "tip"!
:thumbsup2
