Gifts for Stateroom Host

When I'm doing a DIS fish-extender gift exchange, I always bring a gift bag and all the candy I receive during the week goes into that, along with whatever paperback book I read and is given to the stateroom host to keep or trade as they see fit! ;)

:thumbsup2 Excellent idea! We also did this on our recent cruise with extra FE candy.

Also  your idea with the paperback! I'm with the PP who is impressed that you actually have time to read onboard. ;) I brought my Kindle with me, but never turned it on. I just need to book longer cruises ... this past 4 day was way too short!

:)

Well I always have a book (and now, my Nook) with me, even if it ends up just being read on the plane. Don't expect to get any reading done on the next cruise as I'll finally have some kids to play with this time! But I stay on for the 3 day following to recover from the activity and will get some lounging by the pool with book time in! :lmao:

.

Love the paperback idea too!!! I would LOVE to get a Kindle...hoping that DH takes the hint one of these days...he is good, but hasn't figured that one out!

As to having enough time on DCL...is it EVER enough? :confused3I so wish they wouldn't make me leave. Our goal...someday...is to see how long we can go before wanting to actually leave.

BTW...what have been the pros and cons of Nook vs. Kindle...in your opinions?

Along with all of our tips (recommended amounts charged to the room + EXTRA cash in the envelopes for our wonderful service) we gave each person a personally written thank you note. In our notes both of my daughter wrote a specific message to each person for something they had done special for them or something that they did that created a special memory or smile for them while on the cruise. They were simple things like, thanks for offering me a table cloth to cover up with in animators palate when i was cold haha, thank you for the wonderful towel animals etc.

I then wrote special notes just stressing how they had made our trip so wonderful. I included the same notes and names in my comment card. Our wait staff was so amazing and made our dinners so fun because they took such great care of my girls.

Oh and I also took packages of Girl Scout Cookies (Thanks a Lots) for our stateroom host because i know keeping our room clean was no easy task :rotfl:

I also gave a package of the cookies to Guest Services with the photo mats i turned in for signatures.

We to do the 'extra tip' but on our recent Disney Dream Cruise, when talking with several staff, they mentioned things that would be 'useful' gifts, since space is limited, to think of "Dorm rooms" when gifting.... the one item that came up most often was laundry detergent (love love the Purell sheets, that has the soap and dryer sheet in one simple sheet).

Just something that was given to us as an idea!

I thought Disney did the CMs laundry!! I bring extra FE gifts and give them to my CMs....I thought it was more rewarding to see their appreciation. As much fun FE is, you really don't see anyone's reaction or enjoyment. I loved seeing my CMs playing with their voodoo dolls and wearing Mardi Gras beads! They also enjoyed candy, and I couldn't believe how many people hadn't had some of the American candy that I eat all the time! But I do agree, extra cash would be best....I know they don't have the room to keep gifts.

DCL launders their "costumes." (on duty clothing). They are responsible for their own off duty clothing and undies.

While it may sound tacky, if I have left over laundry stuff, I always offer it to my stateroom host and it is always well received. Seriously, if I bring stuff to do 4 loads and only do 2, they are very happy with the other 2!

It sounds like a wonderful idea! I will add that to my list! I am always looking for good gifts!

I just love this thread!!! I LOVE the candy bars wrapped with cash for Room Service and the laundry detergent ideas!! I'm stealing!! :woohoo:

They are responsible for their own toiletries as well. We go to bath & body works and make up gift bags of shower gel, lotion, lip balm, loofahs, etc and throw in a pack of gum. We left one each for our stateroom host and his assistant. These went over huge, since the only place they like picking up these things on the short cruises is port canaveral and they can't always get off the ship then. I had a gift bag for a female left over and I asked our cabin steward if he knew someone who would appreciate the bag and he was excited to give it to one of his friends.

Another thing I have done in the past is make up first aid kits. Band aids, cough drops, stuff for minor ailments. These went over well too.

I LOVE this idea. We've never done it, but based on everything we've heard from any CM over the years, this one would be a hit. Now, if only I could find out if my favorite server was going to be around for my next cruise.....

Thanks! The first time I did this, my husband thought I had seven heads. Then he saw how well it went over and now we do it all the time. I love bath & body works but I'm sure they would love anything toiletry related like toothpaste and shaving cream etc. I know it is sometimes hard for them to get to the store. These gift bags went over super HUGE on the westbound transatlantic last year since they all had to wait for st. marten.
