Gifting points--any other type?

A friend has offered to gift her Disney points to me for an upcoming trip. She says she'll lose them and would rather them go to someone. She told me to pick any resort to stay at, that there isn't much difference in the points from resort to resort. I can hardly believe that. I mean I don't want to tell her to book me at the Grand Floridian if it will deplete all her points....
I am trying to make sure I am not taking advantage of her generosity and have questions:
1. Is she talking about DVC points?
2. Where can I look up the differences in how many points each resort "costs" at various times of the year (this is for the Disney Marathon timeframe).
3. Are there other kinds of Disney points she could be talking about? She said they usually don't deplete them unless they go on the cruise which is what they usually save them for.

There is a points chart at the top where you can find different resorts and what it costs. Depending on when you go and where you stay cn change how many points you use. However if you are looking at a studio, then to be honest it wouldn't be a huge number difference over the course of a week. One thing to understand Is that you would be looking at the DVC villas and right now Grand Floridian isn't one of them yet.

But if she has offered them to you, then check out thoe resorts and go from there.

Note that not all Disney resorts are DVC resorts - for instance the Grand Floridian is not! (yet!)
She is generalizing, but not that far off - for a given type of room at a given time of year, the resorts are closer than you might think.

Here are the ones you can pick from:

Old Key West
Saratoga Springs (treehouses a bit more)
Wilderness Lodge
Beach Club
BoardWalk (depends on view)
Animal Kingdom (depends on view - also have concierge which are hard to get and very expensive point-wise)
Bay Lake Tower (the most expensive of the DVC points wise)

Here is an example for 8/1 (a date I picked at random - it's a Wednesday - note anywhere Fri & Sat nights are more):

yes - SSR and OKW are larger resorts that are more likely to have availability. OKW studios have 2 queen beds - all other DVC studios have 1 queen bed plus a pullout sofabed.

if they are offering enough pts to get a 1BR villa (separate living room and bedroom with full kitchen and laundry facilities) then introduce me, 'cause i wanna be friends too...

For that reason, make a list of the resorts listed above in the order you want to stay at them in. I'd expect BCV and BWV to be booked up for marathon already, but there could be something available so if those are your first choices, put them on there - it isn't a big deal to check if you can do it all at once. That allows your very generous friend to make one phone call or check her computer once and just run down your list without having to come back to you with "that's booked, pick something else...."

When she said "any resort", she probably meant DVC resort. There's a huge difference between DVC resorts and non-DVC resorts. Plus non-DVC resorts have a $95 reservation fee.

Your friend must have a fairly large contract so that she has a lot of points to use each year. Once you find the point charts and have looked over each resort; I would come up with a first, second and third choice for where and when you want to go (within the timeframe the points are good for).

This way, when she calls or goes online to book your vacation, you may get what you want. She needed to explain to you that there is a 11 month and 7 month booking window. She gets 11 months out to book at her home resort and a 7 month period to book at any other DVC resort. If the timeframe is shorter than that and I will make the assumption it is since she is about to lose these points, you will have to have a lot of flexibility with where and when you go. But since your accommodations will be 'free' and all of the DVC resorts are deluxe, this should not disappoint you.

You need to be talking to your friend and not to DIS posters. We know nothing about the specifics of your friend's points. How many, when they expire, etc. So get the specifics and then come here to find out about the resorts.

Your biggest problem is if her points expire by the end of this calendar year. It's going to be hard to book anything from October through early January.

Being a DIS'er but not a DVC'er. I didn't understand DVC points etc (still only have a vague idea). I didn't want to drill my friend too much and appear ungracious. I just didn't want to take advantage of her, either. Anyway, we are booked for OKW and I am looking forward to it! Still waiting for my teaching schedule before I book flights...

OKW is a wonderful choice. The first DVC resort. Very large villas. If you have a studio, you'll have two real queen sized beds. If a one bedroom, one king sized bed in the master bedroom, a queen sized sleeper sofa and twin sized sleeper chair in the living room. Full sized washer and dryer. You'll love sitting out on the porch.
