I'm saving up to send a friend and her family to Disneyworld (if I can). She's been through a terribly tragic time and I want to give her some good memories! I know I can buy hopper passes that never expire and I'd like to get her some accommodations, too, but give her the flexibility to go whenever she chooses. Does anyone know of any Disney gift certificates that do ths? Thanks for your input.

Good for you but other than lots of disney dollars you can not buy a "resort pass type thing".

DH just rewarded a FL employee of his by doing a WDW vacation. He called the resort of choice for the person and paid for the number of nights he thought appropriate and got the family all PH's in case they wanted to take a day off. They live in FL so unused days are of value to them!

Prior to the trip he did tell them of the plans and asked them for 2-3 good long weekends so we could check availability.

Enjoy the planning and kudos to you.

Thanks TJ. I just didn't want her to KNOW, so she wouldn't expend any energy into trying to talk me out of it. My friend lost her 1yr old daughter to a rare genetic disease in December and now it's looking like her 5yrold son might have a milder form of the same disorder. There is no cure. Such a long and stressful couple of years, which obviously won't be over for some time. I feel awful and helpless. I want to help her, but how? How can I ease those horrible memories of doctors, hospitals, funerals and possibly a future of more of the same? I can't, but I CAN provide a magical family memory. I've been to Disney many times and had been planning my first ever cruise! But, I think I'd be happier postponing the boat for a bit. I'm not rich, so I can't do both.

A stack of Disney dollars wouldn't be practical, but I could book a room-only since the cancellation dates are within a week of the trip. Does that sound like a reasonable plan?

Certainly sounds reasonable to me. Instead of Disney World, ask her to pick a week (or however long you'd like to send her) so that you all can just have a nice getaway to someplace close. Then, just use those dates and make the Disney World reservations!

OR - pick a time, make the reservation, pay it off, and THEN tell her. If the time frame doesn't work, just tell her that it's non-refundable, but that the dates can be changed. :)

Lots of ways around it.

And I think it's wonderful what you're doing. It's my hope to be more like you, and that others could be more like you too.

First, let me say that you are an awesome friend!
I would think that if you have been to WDW many times and are familiar with the resorts, you could book something for them. Being their friend you would know what kinds of things they enjoy. But, booking room-only is a good idea in case they would need to change the dates or something. Good luck with it! I'm sure your friend and her family will love it!
