Ghosts, and Villians, and Disney, Oh My! An October PTR- Link to TR

Hmmm... maybe one year you could turn that short break into a short disney break. I know it is hard to just go for a few days though when you can go for longer in the summer.

We said that, last year the break fell on Brady's birthday, not this year. Maybe one year we can go for a few days & go for his birthday. I am already hearing that it's not fair we went for Koby's birthday & we can't go for his. Shelby was born last year on Easter Sunday, so her birthday will be around Spring Break which we could do to Disney for also. Poor Brady:lmao:

YAY!! So glad you are doing a PTR!! October is such a great time to go! I love all of the autumn decorations, pumpkins, yellow and orange colors!! We went in October 2008 and had a blast!!

Your little ones are too cute!! Ahhh....the cursed pirate makeup...the guy-liner that doesn't quit!!

Can't wait to follow along with your plans!! I would love to go back for Halloween!!

Sara

Ashley,

I am in and looking forward to hearing all about your plans!popcorn:: Your children are adorable.:) I wish I had taken my kids more when they were younger and had more "freedom". Now 2 of them are in HS and college and it is near to impossible to find time that we all are available. We are pretty much forced to go in the summer. I would love to see the holiday decorations but that will have to wait!:sad2:

Thanks Sara! So glad you came over, your wonderful october tr is one of the reasons I got so interested in going at Halloween. I guess you have fed my addiction!:rotfl:

Cursed pirate guy-liner, yes! The boys look so "pretty" even a day after with that stuff on.

I definitely need your wisdom about october, will have lots of questions for you and the other seasoned veterans out there to help me out on:goodvibes

Thanks for joining Kelly! I am so glad that we decided to take the kids a year and a half ago. At the time I was worried they were too young, gasp! I know that finding the time for vacation will get harder as they get older. Atleast you can still find the time to go!:goodvibes The DIS is great for having vacations and never having to travel to get there, through other people's tr's!!!

Hi Ashley! Halloween week is always our main WDW trip for the year. MNSSHP is our favorite party and it's such a fantastic time of year to visit. Make sure you get to the MNSSHP parade early because the headless horseman rides the parade route about 15 - 10 minutes before parade start time.

Your family is going to have SO much fun!

Thanks for the tip. Just thinking we leave exactly two months from tomorrow, yikes! I have alot of things left to do.

subbing in...need to go back and catch up!
looking forward to joining in your fun planning! :mickeyjum

Great to put a face with the name, Ashley...you have a beautiful family!
I told Danny about a week ago I would love to plan a trip to disney one year for Halloween...living in the sticks he has yet to figure out what Halloween is really about other than the Baton Rouge "Boo at the Zoo". I just love Noah's spookey pirate pictures...we will definatley have to add that to Ashton's next visit (whenever that may be...I'm working on Danny for a spring trip).
Have a great day! Connie

Thanks for coming over Connie! I know it makes it easier to remember people when you are able to put a face to the name. Thank you! We usually make it to boo at the zoo too. Haven't been to the zoo here since they redid the tiger area, suppose to be really nice (just too hot to go right now). Ashton would love the pirates league, it's so fun for little boys! Good luck on getting a spring trip, don't know if you have seen, but they have new deals out for next year already.

Being a crazed disney fanatic I have changed our plans about a million times. Chris(dh) is telling me to just stick to a plan and stop thinking about it. Yeah, umm, NO! I just have to make this trip as perfect as I can!!:rotfl: So, these plans I lay forth are subject to change, many times.

Right now we are booked at POR october 17-23 with free dining and booked at universal's Royal Pacific Resort october 22-24. I am about 60% sure we will drop POR to the 17-22 and then head over to RPR for the 22-24 (read, not really sure at all).

So, here are the day to day plans with the ADR's:

October 16- Travel day. We have about a 10 1/2 hour drive, with time change and stops we could make it in less than 13 hours from the time we leave. Hoping we can make it all the way to the Orlando area that evening. If not we will make it as far as we can and finish the drive in the morning.

October 17- Check in to POR and hopefully head over to Epcot by rope drop. Adr for dinner at Tutto Italia at 6:20p. Illuminations then crash!

October 18- DHS. Adr at Sci Fi Dine-In at 11:40a. Fantasmic at 7:30p. Emh 7:30-10:30p.

October 19- MK. Park hours are 9-7 today because of MNSSHP. Dinner Adr at Ohana at 6:30p.

October 20- AK. Tusker House breakfast at 8:20a. Park closes at 5p. Dinner Adr at 1900 PF at 7p. Wishes is showing that night, so hope to head over to the Poly and see them on the beach.

October 21-MK and MNSSHP. Have breakfast at Ohana at 9:20a, then will head to POR for swim time and rest before heading to MK at 4p for MNSSHP.

October 22- Sleep in, be out of POR by 11a. Then off to Royal Pacific and universal.

October 23- More universal.

October 24- check out of RPR and head home.

I do have a few more Adr's booked until I am 100% on our plans. We have until Sept. 2nd to decide on disney and until Sept. 7 for universal, so please add your two cents. Here is my major question I need help on:

Universal with a 5 and 4 year old. Right now Chloe is 43" and Noah is 39". Staying at the RPR costs about $300 a night:eek: We get the front of the line passes for staying there, which is basically being able to go straight into the fastpass line on all attractions that offer it, and the ability to head to the Harry Potter area 1 hour before park opening. Have you been? What was your experience? If you were me would you go to universal and stay at the RPR? I really want to go and think the kids would like it, but it costs $1350 (meals not included) for the two nights and tickets for us four (that does include AP's for dh and me). Staying the two nights at disney would cost us $425 and that would include the regular dining plan. We could add the waterpark option and/or parkhoppers. We could even upgrade Chris and my tickets to annual passes at disney and still it would be cheaper than going to universal. If you are wondering why the ap talk, Chris and I have decided to take a trip sans kiddos next May. We are planning to go to both disney and universal. OK, so that is the info, please tell me what you think!!!

Plans sound fun...
we stayed at RPR when we visited Universal (but Danny was sent a 40% off email--still don't know how but be sure to sign up for their emails. We would not have been able to without it). It was wonderful to just walk right up for most attractions. There were some attractions that were not doing the Express passes. Have you checked into the price difference by staying off grounds and buying the Express pass. or maybe just staying one night at RPR your express pass would be good for the day you check in and the day you check out (so you would still get your two days of Express). Harry Potter was not open yet for our last trip but I heard you need the extra hour to visit. But, I do love the parent swap at US/IOA you do not have to go back through the line at the end there is a room where you wait and when you swap you just walk right back into the end of the line!

Lucky you going back for an adult only trip (Danny would never--if I ever go back for a short trip it would be Ashton and I or maybe Dayne would tag along :rotfl2: )
sounds like great planning so far!

Hi! I'm subbing! popcorn:: DH and I went to WDW during Halloween time once and we LOVED it! You are going to have a ball! We will be going to the WWoHP in December so I am anxious to hear what you think of it! :goodvibes

By the way, your kids are sooo cute! :lovestruc

Knew you went to universal, but I didn't know you stayed at the RPR. So you liked it? I've heard some not so good things on the rooms, mainly that they smell like smoke. I am not against spending $300 a night on a room if it is reeaally nice, but not for a stinky one! Since we only will have 1.5 days there I want the express pass for sure. It is $20 and up per person, per day if you aren't staying on-site; think I figured it would cost us about $180 for two days. No way!! I have looked at just one night, but that would mean another place to stay on the 23rd night. I like to try new places, but don't know if I want to stay in 4 different places on a 7 day trip. About the discount, I am on the email list but the only thing they are offering for that time period is if you stay 3 nights or more. When we booked they acted like $270 plus tax was a steal, in a standard room!!! Chris and I really want to take the kids to universal so I think we are gonna bite the bullet, just hard when POR is $203 a night with the dining plan included:lovestruc. Universal is milking that Harry Potter ride!

Parent swap sounds great there. We might be splitting up alot because Chloe may be able to do quite a few more rides than Noah, just hope he hits that 40" mark for Spiderman and the Simpsons.

I definitely am lucky that Chris likes Disney, though not nearly as much as I. I am bribing him a little with Universal! Still trying to talk him into ap's to disney. I think he is on to me though, cause if we get them I will try to get atleast one more trip out of it:banana::banana:

We haven't been to Universal in many many years so I really can't provide much help there.

Totally get it Lisa! So hard to spend valuable Disney time at one of those other parks.:lmao: It's been 10 years for us, and all the new rides are looking quite appealing.

Thanks for joining in, Joni! I've seen you on the other Joni's reports. Before kids I wasn't into Halloween, but now it is my second fav holiday! I am so excited to surprise the kids with halloween at Disney. I need to check out your ptr, I would absolutely love to go for christmas. HP is really what pushed us to go to US/IOA.

And thanks! Of course I am totally partial.

 I'm in! Your trip looks like fun, and your family is lovely! I've never been to Universal, so I can't offer anything for that, but I wish I could :(

I think we are gonna bite the bullet and go with Disney October 17-22, then on to Universal the 22-24. We really have wanted to take the kids to US/IOA and the new WWoHP seals the deal. Now if only I can stick with the plan. We need to pay off both trips in a couple of weeks, so as soon as that is done I will not feel the need to change! These new deals out certainly have peaked my interest, but I don't think we can get a better deal than FREE DINING, atleast in staying at POR. Still I have been playing and pricing out the trip at different resorts. It's fun to do:rotfl: Chris thinks I am certifiably CRAZY!

Now a new question. When we went in April I had planned on doing a trip report when we returned home. Life got in the way (well, and the fact figuring out how to do one scared me). So, now that I have figured out the hard part I am wondering if anyone out there is interested in a cliffs note version of our April trip???? We have 60 days until we leave, so I figure that I could get thru the 10 day trip. I might need a little encouragement though.:rolleyes1

I haven't been to Universal in a looooong time, before IOA was even there, but I'm planning on going this November, I'm really excited to go! My sister just went in May with my niece who is 5 and they loved it, so I'm sure your kids would like it! :)

And I'd love to see an April TR! Why not? It's never too late!

I'd be interested in seeing a Cliffs Notes TR from your April trip :) If I did a TR from the last time I was there, it'd be a seven month long TR :lmao:

And I totally understand pricing the trip at different resorts :) My best friend and her husband and I are going next November for 11 days and I've been the one doing the pricing, so I've been looking at the discounts in hopes that they'll be extended or I'll get a bounceback. Now that I know how much we'd save if we did free dining ($1400!!!), I'm poking at the deluxe resorts, since we were going to stay at a mod :lmao: But we have over a year to figure it out, not just a couple weeks before final payment is due :)

I've never been to Universal and I know nothing about it. We'll go one day. Can't wait to hear how it goes!

LOL'd at DS's face paint! So freaking funny. I showed the ad to Brendan and asked him which face he would want to get painted. He then started to cry and ran away. So that pretty much answers my question about possible sending him to the pirate thing!

We enjoyed our stay at RPR...I did not find the rooms or hotel towers had a smell. The only thing I did find was the floor space in the rooms was very small, but, not unmanagable (remember we were two adults, two grown children and Ashton to a room). The Q beds were nice and very comfortable. It is a nice walk from the rooms to the boat area but not bad in any means. Overall the themeing is very nice and for the $150 a night that we paid very much worth it. We really did enjoy using the Express passes. But, I do think if we ever stayed there again we would do one night and if it was the end of our trip like this past April we would try to drive to Lake City for the night on the ride home and save that money.

Also, I would enjoy your cliff notes version as you do your PTR. I have followed several PTR's that they used flashbacks from their last trip to enhance their PTR ;)

Have a great day!
