My daughter would like to get her brows waxed - Has anyone ever done?

Oh yeah, I got mine done every 2 to 3 weeks, depending on the grow-in.

I don't mind it at all. I kind of find it relaxing sometimes, like ripping away all your tensions.

Won't she be able to get them waxed and then tweeze herself as new hairs grow in? Also, is there anywhere at WDW to have this done?

I did it once and won't do it again. The "pain" doesn't phase me, but I have very sensitive skin and don't like having a pink glossy stripe above my eyebrows. I used to do my upper lip until I started having reactions that led to little pustules. I'm sticking with plucking and bleaching until I get the laser treatments.

To be honest, I always found tweezing to be more painful then waxing. But yes, she can do that, that is what my sister does.

I'm sure the salons and spas do this at WDW, but I'm not positive.

Waxing does not hurt if you go to some place that knows how to do it. I have very sensitive skin and it does not hurt me at all.

The warm wax is kinda soothing.:) When they rip the cloth strips off, it kinda stings a little bit, but not too bad. I've only had a Merle Norman consultant do mine, it's been awhile though. Plucking hurts so much worse.

I got it done the first time for my wedding because the makeup artist suggested it. I've gotten it done each time I've gone in to have my hair done since, which is about every two months. I usually try to remember to tweeze it a couple times in between visits.

It actually doesn't hurt that bad. The skin where the hair gets pulled gets pretty red on me though and stays that way for a while, so I try to have that all done when I'm only going home afterwards.

How old is your DD? I had a unibrow (big and bushy, LOL!) since I hit puberty. I wish my Mom would have taken me in to get them waxed. I hated tweezing!

I did have electrolosis done in between my eyebrows when I was in middle school. So now it is probably about a third of what it used to be. I just tweeze in between now.

For the rest I get them waxed every 2-3 weeks. I do not bother to tweeze underneth to keep them up. When they start to grow in I just get them waxed again.

To me it is not painful IF you keep them up. For me the first one was bad because they were ripping out all of the hairs at once. Now the pain is very minimal.

Be sure to have the waxer do a basic shape. Don't take too much off at first. She can show your DD what she has done and then your DD can decide if she wants them thinner. I guess thicker (not bushy ;) ) eyebrows are back in style.

I say do it! She won't regret it. :)

I've been waxing my eyebrows for a couple years now, doesn't hurt, just stings. Since I've been waxing for so long, the regrowth is almost nothing, so I touch up once every 5 weeks.

I get mine done. I have finally found a local place that does a good job, too. The more I do it, the less it hurts. Ask friends where they get theirs done.

I've been told to take an anti-histamine prior to the appointment to help with redness. Mine get red, but it goes away. The pain wasn't that bad at first and it's less and less each time.

PS- My Mom used the tweezers before my wedding. OUCH! Give me wax anyday. The pain is over quickly. Having them pulled one at a time was brutal.

She is 17 years old tomorrow. How does the salon know how much hair to wax?

Just to put your mind at ease my 12yodd gets her lipped waxed at the salon every 5-6 weeks. (She won't let me touch her)
She and I (esp. me) need our eyebrows done. In fact I think I will call tomorrow and add it on to our hair appts at the salon.

Pick a saloon the has a good reputation. I work in a saloon, but wouldn't let them touch my eyebrows. I do it myself first.

I get regular facials done at another saloon. The girl who does my facials also does my waxing. Although I've had to stop waxing my underbrow because I'm using glycolic acid on my face. The treatments remove all the old skin layers, so the skin under mybrows is very sensitive to wax.

If they are trained properly they will wax the eyebrows to enhance her face. Yes, the first waxing can be more painful because you are removing all the unwanted hair. The key is to have it done regularly, before it all grows back. Less hair to remove, less pain.

Usually the hair dresser should know the proper shape for your face.

Just an FYI, if anyone is taking Accutane for acne, you can't have waxing done. My DD took Accutane and they were sure to tell her that. The skin gets so fragile it would just rip off with the wax too.

A good waxer should be able to tell the shape of your eyebrow for your face. Ask for someone who is experienced. My hair stylist does mine and she is great at it. I also get some taken off of the the top of my brow so they are shaped better. The first time I did it I just had her "clean them up" and then we looked at them and decided to take a little more off.

It really opens up the eye for makeup and makes a big difference. :)

it really makes a big difference, i think. i have mine done at a salon about every month. i also have an at home kit that i use to do them myself ocassionally, but i wouldn't recommend that until you get a shape you like and you know what you are doing. :p

i agree with everyone -- waxing is much less painful than plucking imho. i also have sensitive skin and get the red stripes afterwards but it goes away in a couple of hours.

I think that plucking is so much more painful than waxing, IMHO. In eighth grade I asked my mother (who thought I was nuts) to take me to get them waxed. I couldn't pluck them evenly myself, and my mother KILLED me. I used to numb my eyebrows with an icecube before I let her go near me haha.

PS: Now she gets her eyebrows waxed too, lol.

I called the salon at Coronado Springs since we plan on eating at Pepper Market. They don't wax but do Eyebrow Threading. It cost $20 total and the lady that does it has been doing so since she was 9 years old. Sounds good to me!
