Getting very fed up with Gator/ Gain pop ups!

HELP!!!! I seem to have inherited pop ups advertising GAIN/GATOR when using Internet Explorer which fill my screen and cannot simply be closed in the normal way. They are sooooo annoying, because I have to press alt/contrl/delete and then re-set my desk top before re-accessing the boards in the normal way. In the process I lose all my current things that I am looking at or any posts if I have not finished posting. It is driving my mad. PLEASE HELP A NON TECHY PERSON!!!!!! Carolyn

Carolyn, take a look at the program Ad Aware at http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/

It's a free utility that scans your PC for things that have hidden themselves away like Gator and other 'spyware', and gives you chance to remove them. I run it on my PC every few months just in case, and it regularly finds the odd baddie.

Lots of people reccomended Ad-Aware like Paul, but there were a few other suggestions too.

A huge thank you to Paul and Richard. I have downloaded what I needed, and I also had stuff that couldn't immediately be deleted, but after following the advice on the USA boards it is gone. I am so pleased. The small pop ups were annoying, but the ones that filled your screen and couldn't be closed were driving me mad. My sanity has been restored, and I'll run this prog. every so often to ensure that it stays that way. Carolyn
