This is an OLD POST that tjkraz dug up from the ancient ruins of two years ago and bumped up to try and prove some kind of point. The new posts start on page 5.

Sorry guys, I'm about to vent.

I'm getting upset reading all these negative reports about BCV. It just doesn't seem like any of the other DVC resorts are getting the same kind of negative reports like BCV is.

I started a positive BCV thread a few days ago, but it just didn't help. I am still seeing negative reports on BCV!

I'm starting to really doubt myself on our BCV purchase. I talked my husband into it this past spring and even talked him into an add on a few months after the original contract closed.

But now I keep reading all these reports about how unclean the BCV rooms are, how BCV mousekeeping frequently doesn't respond to calls and how badly it already needs maintenance and the resort just turned one! If it is the newest of the DVC resorts I would think it would look it, not be the one that looks the oldest!

Now I kick myself for not buying the VWL contract that was available when we first purchased BCV, even though the use year wasn't really right for our typical travel dates... Yes, SAB is great, but does that take away the cleaning problems?

Kick myself for not waiting until the SSR info came out so I could have gotten the longer contract date (Yes, I do feel a little ripped off about it. We haven't even used our DVC membership yet. I know it is my fault for not being more patient.)...

And am just basically mad that negative reports are so frequent about BCV. I would think by this point DVC would be aware of this problem, but yet the negative reports still keep coming.

We are not rich, this was a huge decision for us to join and I feel like BCV should meet the quality of the price for which we paid for it. I don't want to take family and it be dirty and they think we threw our money away.

If this continues, I'll be afraid to see what our purchase will look like even more years down the road. I really hope we didn't make a huge mistake.

I would also think that if daily maintenance isn't being done now, what our dues will eventually look like cause they have to completely overhaul the place for lack of attention.

I'm sure I'll get some bashing for my thoughts and comments, but I really would like to hear all opinions good or bad.

Thanks for letting me vent!

People like to moan.
If you don't believe it is one of the most popular resorts try to FIND a resale TO BUY!
In fact if you really want to dispose of it I would gladly take it .
Look at all the positive threads on the board .
Do a search for them or I am sure someone will give you a link to them
Smile and have a Disney day:D

Have you been yourself yet? Before each trip I always stress over some of these reports and have yet to have a single problem on any of my trips. Some people have legitimate problems but most people have problem free trips.

I would not regret your purchase until you see for yourself.

If things were bad, there would not be such a rush for add-ons and SSR. DVC is the best purchase I have ever made.

Don't panic until after you have stayed there. We hear lots of negetives about OKW too, but I never believe a word, because I KNOW what it is really like!

I can't give you any solid information on BCV, but I think one of the problems there might be that it is a small part of a larger and more established BC resort

Shan.....I don't think you have a thing to worry about at BCV. Every resort has some issues from time to time....maybe you're focusing in on on BCV because you own there. I have a very hard time believing that BCV housekeeping is significantly different from any other resort.

As for negative posts, we've often discussed that negative comments are what people post most often, and which draw the most questions. We expect a good experience, so when something glitches, it is reported on here.

Poll after poll on these boards show that:

1. People are happy with their DVC purchases. No regrets regardless of "home".

2. Rooms are clean upon arrival and few problems....certainly no better or worse than if you stayed at any resort on property!

3. General upkeep at DVC resorts is excellent. While refurbishing can be a pain, it does show that our dues are being plowed back into resort upkeep and maintaining the villas in tip top condition.

4. Comments about things like noise, views, etc are extremely personal viewpoints and should be discounted....what is important is your opinion of a resort's views, room layouts, etc.

Please remember that these boards represent a very small percentage of DVC owners. And most likely the most vocal and sometimes critical percentage too! :)

You made a wonderful purchase, and my only question is......are you unhappy when you stay at BCV? If the answer is yes, then it's safe to say that you can ignore others opinions.

Shan,

Can't help much with the BCV issues, but I can suggest that you not let the negative reports get to you. I planned our empty-nest vacation for the first time at the Polynesian (oooh, romantical!), and we went Lagoon View Concierge; even with the FTP it wasn't cheap (but cheap wasn't my goal). I knew that the usual Concierge building (Hawaii) would be down for rehab, but I figured that Disney wouldn't let that affect things too much.
However, shortly after Concierge moved to Tahiti I started reading - on DIS and other boards - how terrible it was now, that they were running out of food, that the FTP had permitted 'the wrong type' to now afford Concierge, and that people were so disappointed. So I know how you feel - we'd never even been there, yet we were already wondering if we'd made a mistake and we were almost dreading what we'd find.
Well, long story short, we had a great time! The building was great, the Concierge staff was superb - we even got an unexpected bottle of champaigne and for our anniversary - and we had no problems with food or other guests.
So while I'm sure that the negative posts reflect genuine concerns of the posters, you are the only ones that really matter, so wait and see for yourself how things are and how much they really affect your vacation.

I feel your pain!! We just bought BWV. And now, all I see are complaints about room size, housekeeping, the walk down those long halls. I'm afraid that we only see the bad reports here on the boards. I know that before we stayed at the Polynesian this past summer, all I saw were bad reports on everything to do with the Polynesian. However, we got there and found it all to be just fine. My dh really wanted to stay at Boardwalk. THat's where he wanted to buy at. Either that or YC/BC. I'm sure we'll all be fine and love wherever we buy. My word.....how shabby can it be? This is WDW we're talking about here. I know that we hold Disney to a high standard, but let's not get carried away.

Thanks guys. We did stay at BCV very shortly after it opened by renting points. We really loved it, but I would hate to go back and see it already in need of major attention. Seems a shame for all these negative reports, I just can't believe they let BCV go so quickly downhill according to these posts. It is still so new!

Does anyone think DVC is even remotely aware of the complaints we see almost daily on here?

Shan,

IMHO, you really need to relax and take what you read on these boards with a grain of salt. We own at BCVs, and we've stayed there 5 times since it opened last year. We have nothing but positive thoughts about it. We love BCVs, and have never had a bad stay... and I'm really anal about bathroom cleanliness.

On the other hand, lots of people on these boards love BWVs. We've stayed there twice, and frankly, it's last on my list of DVC properties to stay in. There's just something about the Boardwalk that doesn't appeal to me. Our resort preferences (on-site) are: BCV, WLV, OKW, BWV.

Sooo... take a deep breath, relax, and wait until you have your own personal opinion about BCVs to get upset. There must have been something about the place that convinced you to buy in. Try to remember what it is.

Many people love BCV. There is no doubt about that.

We have had mousekeeping issues at both BWV and OKW, but no big deal. Go there and enjoy yourself. My experience is, if there are issues, DVC will fix it as soon as they can.

Don't worry, be happy. If you take to heart all the rantings on these boards, you will drive yourself crazy!

It might be helpful to know that the same thing happened right after VWL opened, it was all negative posts, from check-in to housekeeping, etc. Don't let others influence your thoughts. I wouldn't worry about this another minute. I can tell you I still don't like VWL, but it is just personal preference.

Also, I can tell you that the wait list I was on for BCV for several months never came thru for last week, so lots of people must be staying there. I think you are worrying needlessly, but that won't change until you go and stay there again yourself.

DH and I made our first trip "home" this summer to 3 nights at WLV and 3 nights at BCV in studios at the end of July. We told everyone we were "scouting" the locale before we took his parents, my parents, and the kids to BCV at the end of August. We absolutely loved BCV both times we stayed there. The room was pristine, we loved the layout and were happy just staying in a studio. When we stayed in a 1BR at the end of July and each set of parents stayed in a studio, everyone LOVED it. It took exactly 5 minutes from our elevator to the International Gateway, we walked to Boardwalk many evenings and truly enjoyed it there. We LOVED Cape May Buffet for dinner and for a character breakfast -- how convenient the location! Stormalong Bay was fantastic!!!! Just walking along the lake gave us such pleasure. One day we got on one of the boats and just stayed on it for 2 circuits because it was so leisurely and lovely. Please DO NOT fear!

::yes::
Hi Shan,

I can understand how you feel. We are new BCV members too, and have yet to visit our new "home". It is a big financial commitment for our family, as well. The problems at BCV have nagged at me during the process of purchase, and do bother me a tiny bit now.

But most of the bad things about BCV seem to be really minor, IMHO. Lightbulbs being out, a scratch on the table, dishwasher detergent not being replaced mid-stay...I am not going to work myself into a lather about that. I have to believe that Disney will rectify any perceived problems with Mousekeeping.

Try not to stress out about things that you can't control. Yes, we are spending a lot of money, and we have very high expectations of what our accomodations will be like. But, for our family, it will basically be just a place to sleep and shower after a day at the parks or the pool. Try to keep things in perspective.
Most of us are doing this for our families, and I am sure that our children will not think twice about a scratch on the table, and will only remember their wonderful family vacations in Florida.

Yes, my glass is half full!

Shan,

Looking at the counters at the bottom of your post, it looks like you've still got a pretty good wait before your first BCV stay as a DVC owner, so it may be tough, but I think your best course of action is to relax, be patient, and wait and judge for yourself. Yes, there have been negative reports about BCV, but there have been negative reports about all of the resorts at one time or the other. As a BCV owner, I would agree that it seems that the amount of negative reports on BCV have been disproportionally high as compared to those for other resorts, but you may be able to chalk much of that up to the "new nature" of the resort. Many people are trying it for the first time and may have extremely high expectations from the early raves the resort received.

This is not to discount some of the negative reports. There is no excuse for things like poor housekeeping. However, housekeeping problems crop up at all of the resorts from time to time. Hopefully, those problems will be isolated and addressed quickly.

As noted in my post on your "positive comment" thread, I have had three stays at BCV...My worst problem was a single burned-out light bulb! We loved all three stays at the BCV and are thrilled with our purchase.

Try to keep a positive attitude. I think that if you make your visit to the BCV with a sense of fear and an expectation of problems, you just might find them. But if you go with a sense of excitement and positive anticipation, and just let the magic happen, I suspect that you will have a wonderful time! :earsboy:

Sooner or later every resort goes through a period where the description of the place sounds something like a cross between a slum and the Bates Motel. I've gotten myself near hysterics based on reports of what had happened to a resort....how it was falling apart, etc. Guess what? When I arrived for my vacation all was as I had left it. I worried for no reason.

From time to time, things may not be 100% perfect on any given trip. Considering the number of trips we'll all be making, it's bound to happen sooner or later that not everything is smooth. However, the overall quality of the DVC resorts continues to be maintained today as it was when the first resort opened.

Don't worry, be happy. ;)

We've stayed at the BCV on 3 occasions for a total of more than 30 days and have loved it. We own BWV and OKW and I am sad that we didn't purchase BCV. We will be vacationing at Disney in April and could only get BWV because BCV was already booked by the time the 7 month window opened for us. We're on the wait list for BCV, but that may not come through.

As for your concern that you may not get a good return on your investment, I can tell you that at current resale prices, I would realize 40% more than I paid for our points. At the time that I purchased our BWV and OKW points, I was expecting them to go down in value over time, but justified the purchase because my family liked staying in a DVC 2 bedroom unit. I am confident that you will receive more than you paid for your points when you decide to sell, and in the meanwhile, you can enjoy the DVC resorts.

I went through the same thing when I purchased BWV in September 1999. People were complaining about rooms being dirty, maintenance issues, etc. Our first stay there wasn't until over a year later (12/2000). We've stayed there 3 times and I've never had a complaint.

We've stayed at BCV twice (last May and last December) and our stays were absolutely perfect. I wouldn't worry a bit. Hey, maybe you and my DW would like to swap BWV and BCV contracts ;). We'd love to own at BCV but we already own enough points.

Every resort has it's issues now and again. For the most part they will be few and far between. The fact that boards like this exist means you will hear lots of stuff. Unfortunately, people are much more likely to post when they have an issue. Don't let that make you think BCV has nothing but issues.

Breath........relax........make some BCV reservations.........and you'll have a great time and thoroughly enjoy you membership!

All reports- negative and positive- are often from an "eye-of-the-beholder" viewpoint.

With a site like ours, negative reports are often given a higher status than those who choose to say positive things. Since we all EXPECT everything to be perfect, any deviation from that goal is often magnified without knowing anything about the source of the report. We often accept reports at face value without knowing anything of the mindset and actual level of the imperfection except what has been emotionally reported.

There are also times when problems are not reported at the time- guests actually wait and report them on the internet days- or weeks- after the fact. I think we all have a responsibility to report any concerns when they occur and give the resort an opportunity to make it right.

I've personally stayed at BCV for two trips and experienced no problems with housekeeping or maintenance issues. I can recommend the resort to anyone without hesitation.

Enjoy your resort! :)

Yes, I would also be interested in discussing a swap of either BWV or OKW points for your BCV points, if you were interested.
