Getting to Port Canaveral

Hi all!

My family and I are cruising at the end of July, and I'm trying to find the most cost effective option for us to get to and from Port Canaveral from MCO. The Disney shuttle is pretty costly, and a one-way car rental not much better when you add up both ways. I've seen a couple of third party shuttles, does anyone have any experience with any of these? Good, bad, ugly?

ETA: Two of us will already be in FL at WDW and my parents' home in Venice, and the other flies in the night before, so DCL's shuttle handling our luggage from the plane isn't a factor.

We are trying Uber next week. Worked great for ft lauderdale to port of Miami.

Ft Lauderdale to Miami is shorter distance than MCO to Port Canaveral.

MCO to PC = Cost is around $130-150 (UberXL). Rental car is probably cheaper.

Look for a rental car discount code, the kicker will be you'll have to have a vehicle big enough for all your luggage. We did Happy Limo once, it was a little more expensive.

We are planning to use GoPortCanaveral in May - can't give a report obviously, but you could check out their website or fb page. They are mentioned in other cruisers' posts.

We are using Cortrans Shuttle from Orlando airport to the port and back. Found out about them from another poster here at Disboards. It’s $20 per person one way. Hope it goes well. Will use the Magical Express maybe another time.

I think you may want to look at multiple options, since your group will be somewhat scattered.

Magical express is a free shuttle between the airport/mco to WDW resorts. It does not go to the port.

Doing the same for the first time from MCO in about two weeks. Great reviews on TripAdvisor and a few here on the boards. So far response time to emails has been fantastic, so I'm hoping this will be a great way to go but we'll see.

I'm gonna 2nd the idea of looking for discount codes for a rental car. In February our rental car was under $40 one way for a mid size hybrid that was light on gas. Price wise it can't be beat, the drive is pretty easy, and allows for stops along the way there or back for any necessities (or souvenirs) you may need.

I'm confused about where everyone will need to be picked up from/to, because that can make a huge difference. My hubby and I recently did a last minute get away cruise where staying under budget was the #1 goal. I was shocked at how expensive some ground transportation prices could be i teh Orlando area! We were staying near WDW, but off property. I found the cheapest way to get to and from off property WDW area to Airport was Mears shared shuttle, $23 one way, cheaper round trip, per person. This shuttle bus was brand new, very nice, it made stops at 2 resorts.

cheapest way airport to and from Port canaveral was Cortans shuttle, $20 per person. ETA this is how we got to the airport after our cruise. The service was fine, the shuttle was fine, not luxurious but totally acceptable. we would use them again. I found them to be a very good value.

For us with only 2 people, we used uber to get to a rental car desk at WDW ($10) and rented an intermediate car one way to PC ($70). we were able to stop at publix to pick up carry on beverages which was nice.

Are you a party of 3, or is it a bigger group? 3 is kind of tough, as it's right about at the break-even point for a car service vs DCL transfers. You should be able to get a less-expensive rental, though. When is the cruise? I find the best rental rates come out within 3-6 weeks of when I need the rental. So I suggest you keep checking frequently as the rates may drop. As a party of 3 we have done one-way rental for less than $50.

Enjoy your cruise!
