Getting Ready for our July Trips to the World

Hi all! :cheer2:

I saw a doctor yesterday and ... he gave me the okay for light walking! Like, no hurrying, no pounding, but it's okay for me to walk around. He restated the importance of proper footwear, though. It's okay, i'll take it! Tonight, I think I'll walk up and down my block. Please, contain yourself. I know it's mega-excitement

Unfortunately, he reminded me that there is to be no running, jumping, skipping, hopping, anything on tip-toes and NO biking. Looks like I'm going to get very familiar with short slow walks, but it's better than nothing, right?

I think maybe it won't be the calf muscle tear that will kill me in Disney... it'll be how out of shape I am! ;)

That is great news! At least it is a start!!!

I ended up eating another caesar salad for dinner LOL Romaine, parm cheese and the yummy dressing! I also put ~4oz salmon on it ... so yummy! I had asparagus and a piece of corn on the cob with it.. oh and milk :) Still have 6 pts left and already got all my good health guidelines in so I will probably eat some peanut butter on a slice of break later (my go to evening snack if I have the points!)

Drank a ton of water today to make sure no nasty water retention messes with my weigh in tomorrow :) Normally I drink 8-9 eight oz glasses a day but today I am on 9 glasses with plans to drink 3 more while at cheer with my daughter.

Gonna hav3e to put that on my grocery list for Friday, well that and some grilled chicken strips :thumbsup2
To me though that work out was light...nothing really hurt when I left...I was dripping sweat when I changed into my swimsuit but when I was in the pool nothing hurt, not even now that I've been out for a few hours. Now spin...thats heavy for me (considering it will only be my 2nd time going though) and tomarrow is going to be a heavy day for me :rotfl:

So I took a "salad" plate down to use for dinner tonight (normally this is the size of plate I give the kiddos) and put my noodles on it along with 4 meatballs. Downed the meatballs and then tried to work on the pasta...half of it is still sitting on my plate. This is soo not the norm for me! I found a water calculator that tells me how much I need to drink every day. Apparently I need to refill and drink down my 33oz water bottle 4x:eek: I'm only on number 2 right now and it's 7pm so I better get to chugging!

You two are both sooooo good with food!! I got on the scale this morning and I am down 1.5 lbs in about 10 days so I am encouraged. I did really well with no evening snacking last night. Today I worked, so no exercise. I am planning on going in the morning.

LOL Well uhm I *can* be good with food but I also have no self control at many times (hence how I got to where I am...)

I always say that I am the most well informed obese person in the world! I know exactly WHAT to do, it is keeping the motivation to do it!

This thread is helping a lot :) It's nice knowing someone is 'listening'!!!

So I just ordered a new pair of crocs flip flops (my old ones have lost the tread on them) and also a pair of keens sandals ... the h2o kind ... I am not a sneaker kind of gal so I want to try some new things out (the keens) ... my plan is to have the crocs flip flops, my regular crocs (the mule kind) and the keens ...

I also found and bought a bunch of moleskin to bring this time for the inevitable blisters I will get ...

I am debating buying my kids keens too ... need to check a few other places for closed too breathable sandals first ...

Okay, not doing so well here with the motivation part. Ugh. It's been raining a lot, and I get bad headaches from it (two sinus surgeries and a myriad of other issues...)

However, I have started to change my eating habits, so I'm doing something.

Hopefully the weather will clear soon so I'm not falling over in pain! Okay, I don't fall over from the pain, but I tend to take more naps when I have headaches.

I agree - it IS helping a lot!!

Changing your eating habits is major! Don't get discouraged.

Caesar Salad is my weakness!!! LOVE THEM!!
What type of cheer does you daughter do? Mine's in Allstar…..we, actually seems like the whole family is…we spend the majority of our time at the cheer gym.

yeah for the ok for walks! I am sure just being to get out and do something will be nice! I am so grateful *knock on wood* that I have never really had an injury ...

I've had a streak of bad luck recently - I've probably covered any of your's, too! (Last year, I ended up with a stress fracture after I was given the okay to get off crutches... so I was back on 'em for another six weeks, on top of the original 16!)

:woohoo::woohoo::banana::banana: For being able to walk now! Just remember to take it slow, no hills just flat terrain!! You'll be back to your normal self in no time!

Easy for you to say! I live on a hill!! :rotfl:

That is great news! At least it is a start!!!

Yep! I'll take what I can get!!

Today was going well for food until someone handed me a really tasty cookie from Whole Foods. I enjoyed the cookie and then I went back to proper eating! ;) It's a good thing that the cookie was given to me with no option for more. I really have to watch the mindless eating! On the upside, I've been better about my caffeine consumption, which can only mean good things.

The motivation is so hard to get and keep. It is my weakness for sure! I have all the good intentions but getting going ... ugh! I hope the rain clears up soon for you! We have been having super hot weather already here in Georgia! Hello, where is SPRING?! LOL

Caesar Salad is my weakness!!! LOVE THEM!!
What type of cheer does you daughter do? Mine's in Allstar…..we, actually seems like the whole family is…we spend the majority of our time at the cheer gym.

You know, I am not usually a huge caesar salad kind of gal ... just got the inkling for it yesterday! But I was going to forgo it if I couldn't find light dressing ... the real stuff had like 12-14 grams of fat per serving! Eek! LOL The light has 8 grams of fat ... better I guess :)

My daughter just started cheer ... it is just for the military base team ... when your spouse is deployed the family qualifies for a certain amount of free classes and sports and such, so we are getting to do it for free ... which is good because I am not very impressed! The original coach seemed great... a real cheerleader all through high school and college ... well she is pregnant and had to stop coaching ... the new coach is a woman who is kind of overseeing a couple of teenagers doing it and it is horrible :( no organization ... I don't think any of them ever even cheered! Plus the girls in the team range from 3 years old to 10 years old! Just a mess. But my daughter is having fun and that is all I care about at this point. If she really wants to continue it I think I will find her a new team though ... but I am going to push for her to try a few other sports out too (soccer hopefully in the fall).

I've had a streak of bad luck recently - I've probably covered any of your's, too! (Last year, I ended up with a stress fracture after I was given the okay to get off crutches... so I was back on 'em for another six weeks, on top of the original 16!)

22 weeks of crutches?! Oh my! Yes, take it easy so you can completely heal up!!

'Free' unaccounted for food is a weakness of mine too ... I have to mentally tell myself that it won't be the last time in the world I can eat whatever it is ... there WILL be other times in my life to eat that stuff! It's hard though.

I gave up caffeine a few weeks ago ... I did not drink a ton of it (usually 1 cup of coffee a day) but I found that days I was skipping the coffee, I was getting bad headaches ... so I stopped cold turkey and just the last two weeks started drinking a cup of decaf coffee most days ... when I skip the decaf, no headaches!

My eye used to twitch sometimes too which I just found out could have been caffeine related ... well that stopped too :) WOOT!

So I weighed today and after 5 weeks, with being on plan for about 2-3 of those weeks, I lost 5.7 pounds. I will take it :) A bit over 1 pound a week. I know next month will be even better!

My exercise will be a mothers day zumba class tonight, with my daughter :) I am excited! I am hoping to get there early enough to do some weight training first ...

Dinner will be leftovers (we have football practice for my son, so an easy meal it is!)

Oh honey, my downfall is anything CHOCOLATE! What's more screwed up is my mom went to Germany reciently with my dad on business (he works for Homeland Security and goes overseas for trips about 4x a year or so) and she brought me back my FAVORITE hot chocolate mix! I cant read the package because it's in German so I dont know the nutritional information on it and I would LOVE to have a cup! I have 4 bags of the stuff that I duno if I will get to enjoy....my kids will but I wont!

Grey, I have little to no self control either (then again lately the thought of going to any of the places I used to eat or ordering what I used to makes me want to hurl) my downfall is chocolate...cupcakes, brownies, cookies! I have to fght off my cravings with a stick. I'm glad to have ya'll to share with as well, it's nice knowing that even though I go to these classes on post and have no one really to talk to (this base is NOT known for it's friendly faces :rotfl2:) I can share it with y'all and you UNDERSTAND! It's hard work shedding inches and pounds! Watching what you put in your mouth, how many glasses of water you drink, how many calories you burn in the process! I :lovestruc:lovestruc my Keens btw but am NOT about to spend 50 dollars on shoes my kids will outgrow within a year so I bought them similar style shoes but not Keens....Gillian has a purple pair from Khols that are Jumping Beans. Meghan has some that I bought her at the px and Hailey got a pair of Teva's from Ebay (25 bucks well spent IMO). I have 2 packages of Moleskin that I will be cutting up and putting into our first aide kit because I dont feel like taking scisors to WDW :rotfl2:

Winter honey, small steps are GREAT! :thumbsup2 When I first started to work on my weight, I started to lower my caloric intake and watching what I put in there. I wasn't exercising at all (unless you count doing house work in there) and I lost 8lbs! I used to eat well over 2k in calories a DAY now I do my best to stay at 1200 and I drink TONS of water. I know there are people who hate the taste of it but they can always put orange slices in their water or something similar! I am so proud of you for your steps now matter how small they are! Keep up the good work and I hope you feel better soon!
Easy for you to say! I live on a hill!! :rotfl:

Well you could pace back and forth along some flat terrain right :confused3 I found these Vegan cookies at our local healthfood store and they were AWESOME...then I read the package...over 200 calories for ONE cookie and I downed both of them without reading first! I felt like a fool:rotfl: I can laugh about it now but I haven't bought them since I also taken to avoiding the free samples they give out at grocery stores and Sam's club they will bbe my downfall!

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::dance3::dance3::dance3: GREAT WORK GREY! You have offically become an insperation to me!

I have to get ouf of this habit, but I weigh myself every morning...yesterday was 212.6 and this morning was 212.4 I'm loosing ounces but still I'm loosing so I consider it a small win. I went to spin class today and when I got off of the bike to cool down and stretch I could BARELY feel my thighs and knees! Then I went and jogged at 4mp for 10 minutes. I wanted to go for 15 but had to go pick up Gillian from hourly care, then I left my MP3 player at the hourly care! I'm going to go swimming with a friend here after a while so I will pick it up then. So far I've drank ONE of my 33 oz bottles (have 3 more to go) but last night I managed to down all 4 of my refills. I have a off the wall question for some of ya'll though....do I need to eat the calories I work off at the gym? Today so far was 700 calories and that seems like a LOT of food to me! I'm going to broil some chicken tonight for dinner and steam some veggies, make the kids some noodles or something to go with it but I'm going for a double veggie portion for myself. Keep up the good work everyone! Remember small steps make a BIG diffrence!

You are right ... I need to find cheaper versions of the sandals for my kids LOL Knowing my luck, their feet will grow like 2 months after I buy the shoes! I have to admit I *hate* to shop in stores! I adore online shopping though haha !! But I will bite the bullet and go out shoe shopping for the kiddos ... will def. check out kohls! I think I got my daughter her sandals last year (closed toe) at Rack Room shoes, if I remember correctly ... I am going to wait until June I think though... that will give them time to wear them a bit before we leave, but also allow for any growing between now and then :)

As for eating what you burn ... well, I follow weight watchers and we earn APs (activity points) basically it is one AP for each 100 calories burned ... we also get 49 extra points to use if we want ... well I find that if I do eat my APs I tend to lose more ... *but* I have to make sure and eat more healthy stuff, not just junk LOL So good carbs, more lean protein, more low fat dairy... basically, if I want to splurge for some treat, I use my extra weekly points... otherwise I try and stick to eating my APs each day with healthy stuff!

Hey a question for you all ... those of you who run, how did you get started? And what weight were you?

I am just at 300lbs right now (today weighed in at 300.3) ... my highest weight was 324.6 back in January 2010 ... the lowest I got to was 281ish ... I have tried the c25k a few times but it was just too much ... my plan now is to try it again at 25 pounds lost, so around 275... if it is still too hard I will try again at 250 etc ... I just want to someday call myself a runner! My kids LOVE to run and of course my Army hubby has to be able to run ... someday I want to go on family runs :)

I only run on the treadmill at the gym and I'm working up my minutes but so far I'm liking 10 (or maybe I'm to comfortable with that time limit) but will be going for 15 on Monday and doing 15 minutes the whole week then jumping to 20. I weigh 212 right now and I can honestly say that I fluctuate the pace and the incline to get my body not in a rut.

Look for the shoes you want on ebay first and see what you can find you might get a great deal on some nice shoes for them. If not then try Khols or the PX (since you can shop there) if not there, keep an eye out for sales at places like Sears...if you have a points card for K-mart/Sears you can use the points on there and apply it to the sale price of the shoes for them to get a reduced rate :thumbsup2 HTH :D

Yeah I think I will stick with my plan to try c25k again at 275 and go from there... I don't want to hurt myself but I also don't want to limit myself KWIM...?

That is a good idea! I have just gotten back into using ebay :) Got a few cute disney things on it!

We are under 60 days now!!!! I am so excited! We started our countdown with 90ish days so it is amazing to me that we are already in the 50's!

So last night my workout was good! I did upper body workout and added some exercises to my routine :) I am sore today so that is good LOL Then it was Mother's Day zumba! SO.MUCH.FUN! My daughter LOOOVED it! We are hoping they do a parent/child class all summer ... that would be great :)

Today is a no gym day ... we are headed to the YMCA waterpark for a military family event! Swimming, cookout, raffle prizes ... should be fun ... just missing my hubby :( These events are bittersweet ... fun for us, but a big part missing. My kiddos will have tons of fun though, so that will make it easier for me ... harder for DH to hear how much fun they are having.

Ok off to start the day ... hoping I don't burn to a crisp today! Relying on the 6 year old to help me put suntan lotion is sometimes questionable LOL

Good job on your workout - your gym seems great - so many fun things to do there. Have a good time today - I am sure it is hard with your husband gone, but at least you have some distractions and it sounds like a fun day for the kids.

Dinner was so NOT what I planned last night. We ended up at Texas Road House where I sadly cannot say no to their rolls (they are just TOO good! Like Mickey waffles, you cant just have ONE!) and I had 2 of those. On the upswing, I ordered water to drink and a grilled chicken salad with dressing on the side and only ate about half of it. I noshed on th peanuts there too and sadly had one potato skin, one chicken critter and one rattlesnake bite :guilty: Then the WEIRDEST thing happened when I weighed myself this morning....I was down 2lbs! :scared1: I've been taking VPX meltdown and wasn't seeing any real results but now I'm down 2 lb and have lost an inch in my hips! I will be glad when that area of my body is NOT in the 40's :rotfl: My waist is already down to a 38 though which makes me feel great!

Next 2 days are Non Gym days , gonna clean more and take the kids to the post pool.

Well, sounds like you should not to worry about your yummy dinner last night! We might be going out to dinner tonight, so I am trying to be extra good today!

I did work out yesterday at the gym, usual combo of cardio and weights/strengthening. It is harder to go on weekends, so I just used our stationary bike for 30 minutes here today and did some stretching and crunches. I also signed up on self.com to use the online food diary and exercise log.

I use myfitnesspal.com, tracks not just my water or exercise but just about all nutritional information for me. It's sad when I dont have exercise to put in (like I wont for the next 2 days). Great work on the cardio and I hear you about working out on the weekends, then again I go to the gym 5 days a week so come Saturday and Sunday I just want to rest and do house work and let my legs catch up to me. Hope you have a nice night out on the town :D Enjoy your dinner!
