Okay, I am new here and I love these boards! :cool1:
I just booked my family's second trip for the end of September and we are soooo excited. Our first trip was on Christmas 2005. :santa:

Let me start off by saying I am really not that vain. I try to look nice wherever I go and my two girls are always dressed, hair done, etc. On our first trip I had a hard time liking the fact that I had to wear tennis shoes with my capri's. I decided I would wear my cute sandles instead and off we went. I think I made it to IASW before I was in pain. :headache: My sweet husband took the shuttle back to Embassy and got my running shoes. From then on out I didn't care what my outfit and shoes looked like.

Now, onto my hair. :sad2: I have natural wavy hair that I have to straighten everyday. I live here in Utah where the air is nice and dry and my hair looks great all day. Imagine my surprise to walk out of our hotel room in Disneyland the first morning and it's FOGGY! My smooth hair just puffed up!:scared1:
Both of my girls bangs went straight and I felt wet and muggy. I just couldn't feel up to taking a lot of pictures. I felt yucky. My poor girls looked like ragamuffins! Then I looked around and saw that most kids did!;)

I've decided that Disney is not a fashion show and we should just go to have fun. It's a big step for me to put comfort above style.:yay: I will just put my hair up and buy a great hat.

Another thread got me thinking about this post. Someone was commenting on some women who wear slutty clothes to Disneyland. I wanted to say that on our last trip on Christmas, there was a girl and her boyfriend walking around together. She was wearing this Santa get-up and my mouth hit the floor (I think my husbands did too;) ) The thing BARLEY covered her butt and did not cover her chest. I was uncomfortable for all the pre-teen boys there who didn't know where to look when she was in line with them. It was soooo inappropriate! Please cover yourselves up people!

Thanks for reading my first post! I am so excited for our second trip and I know I will get great advice from all of you! I am also feeling good about letting myself go and not worry so much about looks!:rolleyes1

Hi, UtahBelle, and welcome to the DIS!

I have to agree with you about vanity taking a beating at DL. We are very informal at home, but do tend to dress up a bit when we visit or when we're having pictures taken. I was pretty horrified myself at some of the pictures we took, but I figured, "Whatever! Gotta have these to remember our great trip!" Besides, some of the best photos we look terribly unkempt but the facial expressions make it an awesome shot! :thumbsup2

First off welcome to disboards :flower3: Glad we have nother crazy disboarder in the lot.

I think everyone wants to look their best no matter where they go, even in Disneyland or WDW. Just bring lots of hair spray and work your wardrobe around your comfortable shoes hehe! That what I did.

Welcome! I don't really worry about it anymore. No matter how hard I try it all gets messed up somehow. In my bag I just carry my lipgloss and powder for my face. My hair goes flat as soon as I walk out the hotel. So, I will at least look cute for a little bit.

Firstly welcome to the Dis

Secondly I know where you are coming from. I like to look good on my trips too (hey we take lots of pictures so I need to look decent!!) I figure I go for the smart casual look. I wear shorts or a nice summer skirt and a casual, but nice summer top. I coordinate my shoes (crocs, flip flops or tennis shoes that are comfy) with my clothes. As for my hair, well it gets tied back and I wear a casual summer hat!! Oh and make up? Forget that we are on vacation!! So although I look casual it makes me feel good that I had planned the casual look to maximum yet extremily comfy effect!!

So have a great trip and feel great about yourself!!

:welcome: to the DL DIS! We are the friendliest and funnest gang on the boards, if I do say so, myself!! :rolleyes1

Hair: Give up. We moved to NV from NJ, and it was completely due to the lack of humidity! OK, not really, but I hear you on really curly hair not behaving! Buy SEVERAL hats, and work around it.

Dress: Give up. Comfort outweighs fashion forward sensibilities on vacation. BUT! Wear a cute top, and agree to take only photos from the waist up. Buy tops to match your new stylish hat collection!

BARLEY!!! Of course it barely covered anything!!!! Was it Earth Day, perhaps...:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Some people need to invest in a mirror...or use the money to buy some dignity!

:rotfl2: I was gonna make a joke about the barley dress, too, but didn't want to take a chance on offending a newbie!

Utah, sweetie, you'll find that the DIS DL folks are nice, fun, and very quick witted! Jump into the pool, baby! :rotfl:

PattiPB, that just reminded me of something I saw on my last trip to WDW. It was new years day 2006, about 10am. We were in Epcot and had got in line for Spaceship Earth. In front of us were a group of girls, around 16/17 I guess. One of them was wearing a bikini, high heels (and I mean high!!) and a fur coat!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't fugure if she was too hot (wearing a bikini) or too cold (wearing a fur coat)!!!!!

The good thing is -- they do make comfy, sporty shoes that sometimes have a bit of a stacked heel -- so they just feel cuter than regular tennis shoes. I am short and always have some type of platform sandal, etc to go with all my outfits!! So it was hard to find something cute to wear to DL, but I managed LOL.
About the trashy outfits you sometimes see . . . I agree - I don't get why people dress that way!! It is so totally inappropriate. I grew up in FL (lived only an hour away from WDW). At WDW, you would be *amazed* at some of the things people wore there. :scared1: Wow. I thought DL was much classier (as far as how people dressed) than WDW -- but that Santa Baby outfit sounds like it might rival some of the get-ups I saw growing up LOL!!!
Welcome to the Dis!:)

I hear you on the hair thing. Now that I am a stay at home mom, I have perfected the perfect ponytail look! I too blowdry and straighten or curl my hair everyday. So I have learned how to blowdry, straighten the front and pull it back and still look ok.

As for clothes at DL, I go with a lot of solids. Not sure why, but it seems a lot of my comfy casual clothes are solids. A black top always looks cute, crisp and clean with khaki capri's or shorts or black bottoms with a cute pink top layer with a white tank under. I love color so I just incorporate it in a comfy collection. I know in the summer heat nothing feels good but I still try to look fresh even if I don't feel it!

I almost didn't make the joke myself, for the same reason! But the visual...of some chick....dressed in herbs and leaves...I couldn't help myself!!! :rotfl2:

Utahbelle!!! Please post so I know I didn't offend! To make up for it, I'll dress up in barley and swim around my pool like I'm in a bowl of Campbell's Soup!

I was just thinking about what shoes to take today as I packed. Even though my birkenstocks are ugly they are my most comfy shoe...into the suitcase they go! ;)

So much for proof reading.....Augh! Barley dress:headache:

Thanks for the reply's! It feels so good to know I am not alone in my quest to look decent in Disneyland!

Keep'em comin!!:rotfl2:

Oh I so get this, I have the same hair issues (and I live in Oregon, so I am use to the frizzies....) Pony tail or hat is the answer.

I also have to deal with the fanny pack, it's the only comfortable thing to carry our stuff, so I just assume I look like the ugly fat tourist.

As to pic's, since I need to lose some baby weight (OK so the "baby" is now almost 7)......I stand behind the kid for pic's, wear a cute top, and it works great.

I have the kind of hair that puffs into Bozo the Clown hair at the slightest amount of humidity. No matter how groomed I may try to be, it only takes one trip on Splash Mountain to change all of that. I just grin and bear it. I use a lot of hair clips to get me through the trip.

I hear ya on the shoes, utahbelle. I don't like the look of athletic shoes with capris. You kind find REALLY cute shoes on Zappos, and they won't hurt your feet. Look under "comfort". I love Clarks, Aerosoles, Danskos, etc. Or, you can get stylish athletic shoes like they always recommend on What Not To Wear.

It's our right to look cute!

Oh I love that show! I also love Danskos and the sketchers fashion sneakers. I have way too many pairs and styles! I agree you can find really cute comfy shoes. I love my Nike flip flops too. I am off to buy some Croc flip flops this week for my trip next week!:)

I live in Utah too. Best thing about coming back from Disneyland is getting off the plane, and breathing the thin air again. :thumbsup2
