Getting into a Disney timeshare?

Hi - I hope this isn't a silly question. My inlaws have timeshare weeks banked from previous years. I know that the Disney ones are listed as options. If we wanted to go next January or February, would we have any chance of getting one of the Disney owned timeshares, or are they always at full occupancy from DVC? The timeshare company my inlaws have obviously isn't Disney.

Thanks so much. I'm really clueless about this. :confused3

I'm sure you could try. I have to tell you I've heard that it is really hard to exchange into Disney. Where is your inlaws time share to begin with? That might have a bearing. If it's Hawaii, I think you'd have some luck. If it's the Pocono's I have to tell you, I doubt it.

It isn't impossible however, it also is quite difficult from what I've heard for people to trade into DVC who do not own DVC. That said, it may depend on which DVC resort they're trying to get into, size villa they're trying to get and time of year they're trying to go.

Busy times for DVC tend to be quite different from the non-DVC WDW resorts and some of the DVC resorts are smaller than others. BCV's and BWV's tend to be very difficult to get during the food-n-wine festival at Epcot for instance and Oct.- early Dec. in general can be tricky at lots of the DVC's because it's lower point season and the holiday festivities are in full swing. One more thing to keep in mind is that DVC utilizes a point system where we can go to whichever resort we choose at ANY time of year in any size villa all subject to availiblity and how many points we have to spend unlike most time shares that have a set week. I don't know how that does or doesn't affect things as far as how flexible it would be for your inlaws to book :confused3 So as you can imagine, if it's difficult for the members who already own at certain times, I'd think it would only be more so for non-members.

I'm mearly passing on info. that I've read of other's who've either asked this question before or commented on the subject in the past. If they can be flexible about which resort & dates and even the villa size it may make all the difference but since I actually have no experience I really couldn't say :confused3 It must not be totally impossible to be done though or it wouldn't be an option. I'd have your in-laws start inquiring with their timeshare ASAP though and go from there...you'll never know until you try.

Best of luck and let us know how you make out

There have been a few reports of people trading in to Disney DVC resorts, but they had to put their requests in as much as a year ahead of time. They reported trading in a two bedroom, and taking a one bedroom as an exchange, too, so you made need to trade down on size in order to have a chance on getting in. It also helps if you have many choices on times of year.

Sept and Jan seem to be the best times to get a trade. Being able to take a 1 BR or smaller will improve their chances. You should get the request in NOW as an ongoing request. Remember to note the expiration of the deposit in their II account to be sure it's good till then. Don't try to do it only by checking on the website though they should do that as well. As for the chances, it depends on the trade power of the resort and none there really are that good. Give it a try and let us know what happened.

We sucessfully traded into OKW for last week. We requested end of August and received the trade the end of November. We are also DVC members and wanted to keep our points to go to HHI this summer. 3 years ago we also sucessfully traded into OKW. Our other home resort is in Kauaui,Hawaii, so I am sure that has part of it.

they have to be II members - not RCI

then I would go join
www.tug2.net

looks in the BBS for sighting/distress for the DVC resorts - there are several out now - for Sept, Oct.

once you have this information - you can look online and see if the DVC resorts are there - if not - then call II.

this lady is using an excellent trader and I don't think you will be able to see everything that she is showing. However Jan or Sept - you should be able to see.
