We’re having a small get together on NYE and are hoping for some suggestions of games we can play. We’ll be a few middle aged couples, and I have no idea what new card/board games are out there. Can anyone suggest some simple, fun games that won’t take too long to learn, and aren’t super expensive.

Thanks for any help!

Backgammon, checkers, Uno, charades are all TNT possibilities.
Definite yes to card games! We play spades and rummy on this end.

My husband's mom's side of the family plays Mexican Train which is a domino game. This isn't super complicated IMO to learn and you can have variations added in (we've been playing a modified game) however it can take several hours to play depending on how quickly each person plays their turn, we typically play with 5 people and on Christmas Eve it took maybe 2 1/2 hours or so to play.

In addition we've played Phase 10 the card game version, maybe not a lengthy game but it can be..

Growing up on my mom's side of the family Farkle was the family game which is similar to Yahtzee and we played with/for money (coins).

There's a couple of variations of Uno we have played such as Uno Attack or Uno Flip.

Trash. Easy game to learn. Mostly luck. Very little strategy involved. Can use more than 1 deck if you have a large group or divide into tables of 4-5.

TRASH in / Trash out
Was super easy and fun and we laughed every time my mother ( early signs of dementia ) …wanted to join in around the kitchen table at her house!
She made her own rules and we just laughed .
One of my last fun memories with her .

I bought Chameleon for our family to play on Christmas. Unfortunately it is only good up to 8 people and we had more. My future DIL to the rescue! She had Impostor (not a typo) on her phone downloaded from the app store. Same game, better delivery method. So. Much. Fun!
We vowed to play in disney lines.

We just played Left Center Right in Christmas and it was hysterical. We gave everyone $3 and winner kept the pot.

If you want a good game that is easy to master try Skip-Bo. My mom and dad first learned about Skip-Bo from my godfather because he and my late godmother played it all the time when they would visit friends and my godfather taught Mom and Dad how to play Skip-Bo and they would play it each time we visited every summer. My grandma loved Phase-10 and she actually taught my mom and dad to play it and Phase-10 is also simple to master and loads of fun. And another game you can try is Jenga and my dad and mom LOVE playing Jenga "even though it's my Jenga game" Mom and Dad sometimes play it and Dad usually wins
