getting fit for your trip - a place to share & ramble

Hello everybody :wave2: I'm a little late to the party, but I hope you'll still have me. This thread is good timing for me.

I decided a week ago that enough was enough and my night-time sugar binge was really getting out of hand. I'm overweight, verging on obese, even though I don't really look it. I've had three kids in the past five years and after giving birth to each one I've stacked on weight. I usually lose it again when I'm pregnant (horrible morning sickness), but this time I'm done with babies so pregnancy isn't going to save me! Sugar is my addiction. Each night I was having between half and a whole block of Caramello chocolate (mmmm...), half a packet of Jersey Caramels and half a packet of chocolate biscuits...if I hadn't already eaten them all the night before. All of this was after the boys were in bed, so after 8pm. Added to this I'm back at work full time now; leaving home when it's dark and getting home when it's dark. I did the Couch to 5K running program last year and loved it, but I won't run at night. I've being doing the Gillian Michaels 30 day Shred DVD for the past week and so far so good - although it kills my arms.

So... I've given up the binges - for now. It's been a whole week since I had my last binge. It is EXTREMELY hard. I crave sugar so badly that it's ridiculous. Worse than any craving I ever had while pregnant. I have had two blocks of Caramello and a packet of Jersey Caramels in the fridge for a week, but they are unopened and untouched. You may ask why I dont' just chuck them, but if I did that I would jump in my car and go on a buying binge - it's happened before. If I don't have large amounts of sugar in the house I think about when I'll be able to go out and get it. Yep, I truly am a junky looking for my next hit.

My wonderful husband has been cutting up carrots for me to munch on at night when my cravings are at their peak, and while they are no substitute for the sugary delightfulness of my stash, they keep me busy and away from the fridge.

I've not made any other changes to my diet - it's pretty well balanced apart from my late-night binge so I don't plan on changing it. As mentioned, I'm exercising at least four nights a week as well.

I've attempted to give up the binge in the past but when I've fallen off the wagon, I tend to fall off, hack it into tiny pieces and then burn it to ashes so there is no chance to get back on. This time, if I fall off, I'm planning on writing it off as a bad day and getting back on.

So there's my story. I've just hit my mid-30s and am finding the weight doesn't shift quite as easily as it use to. I don't how much I weigh, but I know it's too much!

Alicia, take it easy on yourself today. Migraines are awful. I usually have two-day migraine hangovers after a bad one :(

I totally relate to the late night cravings..what is it that after dark I crave choc, dips or chips????

We're all in this together....but this crap weather isn't helping, cant go for a walk and its just so cold.

My DH goes to bed earlier now to overcome his late night craving, he's trying to retrain his tummy to not have food after 8.30..but I enjoy my late nights. He's lost 4.5 kg in the last 4 weeks, exercising and eating well.

Its an ongoing struggle..but all we can do is just keep trying:cheer2:

Feeling pretty good about my gym session I had before work today. However not feeling so good about the giant bowl of creamy chicken and mushroom soup + foccacia bread roll that I had. Feeling a little bit of a contradicting pattern going on here.

I also have the absolutely rotten timing of deciding to do all of this precisely the day before my boys brought home five boxes of chocolates to sell as a fundraiser for school!!! And they are delicious Cadbury mini chocolates - all my favourites.... Luckily I work with equally sugar-addicted people and I've sold almost three boxes in less than a week!

I hated the krispy cream fund-raisers..i had so many frozen do-nuts in my freezer for weeks....thank god those days are over.

work mates are great to offload all those goodies..better on their hips than on ours i say!

Krispy Kreme :scared1:
I have 2 Freddo multipacks in my house:scared1:

So far so good, I'm drinking water before I eat so my tummy is full and just generally eating less crap, and I'm noticing the difference in my jeans (favorite jeans).

Didn't walk yesterday, had better go tonight, it's great to think and not be interrupted by "mum, mum, mum"

10 weeks, 6 days to go, and I've lost some cm's, not sure about actual weight though :yay:

Awesome! cms are more important than weight I reckon

I had an ordinary night last night. Takeaway for dinner, but we do that every now and then so I guess it's not too bad. I was grumpy-mumma last night, I think the sugar withdrawals are getting to me. Still managed to avoid my nightly binge, in the past even the fatty dinner wouldn't have stopped me from that. I feel like I am actually breaking that habit yay!

Super-tired today. Tired usually = bingeing so we'll see what the day brings.

It's hump day!!!

I managed 8.5km of sand dune and trail running today. That's three km farther than I've ever run. Didn't stop once either, so I'm stoked. Not so stoked that I could have rowed 14kms in the same time (indoor rowing was my 'thing' before I took up trail running for a change). Weigh in tomorrow, not looking forward to it as I've been having some carbs and we got 58kgs of beef in over the weekend.

8.5kms! Wow! I use to be able to jog 5kms last year, but that's as far as I ever got. Well done you!

I've been trying to run for half an hour before every gym class, if I get there before 5pm I get it in, if not then I run for as long as I can before the class starts.

Damn work, getting in the way of everything!

8.5k's, go you!

I can't run to save my life. Most I've ever run non stop is only 6 minutes!

I just had my exercise, 3/4 walk and 1/4 run.
I feel good, maybe because it's freezing cold here and I'm hot :yay:
My appetite has changed a lot, in 2 weeks I'm not craving the sugar I thought I would, which is great.
I don't think it's the exercise people become addicted to though, it's the results...

I think water before meals is helping me fill my tummy and not be hungry

Yay, I'm down 600 grams on last week. I knew those kgs of grapes a day two weeks ago were bad. Mind you I've been having some chocolate this week with the kids. Dunno what next week will be like as the kids are off for two weeks and it means it's hard for me to exercise as I can't run on the trail unless it's daylight and then I've got the kids with me. They are too heavy and big to shove in their old pram and take that way as there's no way I'm pushing an 80kg load up and down sand trails.

With the running, I never ran. I was always told by my mother (not the best parent in the world by a long stretch) that I'd never run as it upset my asthma. My husband challenged it one day and told me to try. So I started walking/running. I finally got up to 11 minutes running and I was stoked. I'm not fast - about 8 mins a km on hilly tracks. Yesterday I ran my route twice in 68 mins, dead on an 8 min km. I don't know how far or fast I can go on pavement as I don't like pavement (or loads of people).

My mate Perry reckons anyone can run. He's this tiny old weary looking man. He has a colourful history of serious drug issues and then he found running. His dream is running Bad Water, but he needs to be invited to that race. In a couple of months he's running 5300km in 71 days around NZ. That's 74 kilometres a day back on back. He's an inspiration to me and eggs me on.

I'm not a runner, it kills me, but then I figure as I get fitter and lighter it should become easier, I'm not pushing myself hard as I don't want too exhausted and give up, a walk is better than nothing at all, I'm just running on my walks sporadically.
My runners are great, they support my flat feet well, and are very comfy :)

I'm eating well (not much rubbish), and am just trying to cut the processed foods, sticking with stuff as close to its natural form.

I'm quite firm with my DS about what he can eat or not, very little junk, if only I could always be so firm with myself...

I'm a runner through choice but in saying that I haven't trained properly since I left school. Back then I was running 10-15km a week plus weekly races, which is nothing compared to what serious runners do, with their 80+km a week! Anyway, I don't know if it's been talked about on this thread, but the 'couch-to-5K' program is highly recommended for those looking to start running. It's a gradual training program so they don't expect you to run 5km non-stop after a week! http://www.c25k.com/c25k_metric.html

I consider myself to be fit, but definitely not as fit as I was once. As annoying as it was, compulsory school sport was really beneficial for my fitness and health and now that I'm a lazy uni student I struggle just to play a full game of netball! Regardless, I love running fun-runs and the like, so my goal is to run in one of the Disneyland or World marathons hopefully in the next few years! :) Especially as we're in winter, our self-efficacy and motivation to get out and be active can drop but this is a great thread to motivate and keep up confidence :)

I used to have a really good c25K on my iphone but now i've got an android phone and the new c25k app I've got isn't as good, so now I just run

Hey I'm not a runner, I like my C2 erg but I just hit a wall with it. I also love kettlebells and have been using them several years on and off. I wish my kids wouldn't refer to them as 'Mummy's other handbags'. :lmao: Somehow as a non-runner I just got into it and I've run over 25kms this week in three runs. I love going up the sandhills and getting to the top - a straight pavement would drive me bonkers.

Today is end of term so I thought I'd bake the kids a brownie as they've done well. Of course I was having a wee lick of the spoon when who should come up the driveway but DH, who'd decided the forum he was supposed to be in all day was boring and he'd work from home instead. Hastily wiped the spoon and shoved it in the dishwasher - dratted man, I was looking forward to that. :rolleyes1

I dont run:eek::eek:
my B00bs seem to get in the way...maybe my style is off.

i'm more a step class/ squash player myself.....I like my exercise to be short, sweet and in air con:banana:

Bendon racer back sports bra - it'll harness ANYTHING but a couple of rogue bowling balls. (I orginally typed rouge not rogue - you could have either type of bowling balls for all I know now I think about it.):lmao::lmao::lmao:

Hmm - helped myself to 31 points worth of the kids brownie. Bad bad mummy. That leaves me 2 points for the rest of the day. Erk, time to dip into the Pro Points allowance. Note to self - don't make brownie again. Ever.
