We will be stopping at Port Canaveral from 7am-7pm during our RCI cruise. I was wondering how easy it would be to get off the ship and rent a car for the day. Will a car rental agency pick us up and shuttle us to pick up the car? What car rental agencies are in the area? I think Avis was there when we sailed on the Wonder but we didn't use it and don't know if it's still there. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi LuckyMommy.....

I believe Budget is the closest to the Port, but I don't know if they have shuttle service. We are renting Budget from MCO to Port Canaveral for our Feb 2005 cruise on RCI. Which ship are you sailing??

We're going to be on the Grandeur of the Seas departing Baltimore in May 2005. We're actually not booked yet since RCI is dragging their butts releasing the reservations to the public! UGH!

I take it you'll be on the Mariner. Have you sailed it or DCL before? We did the Wonder last year and are ready to cancel our back to back we had planned for 2005 since we can get a grand suite for the same as a cat 6 plus we're getting two extra nights!

Just wanted to let you know I read on another post that Budget does indeed have shuttle service to/from the port. But....the post also states that the service TO the ship is much better than the service FROM the ship. The poster said it was faster and easier to hail one of the taxi's at the port to take her back to Budget...only cost about $8.

Yes, we are sailing the Mariner out of PC. This is our very first cruise and so wanted to sail DCL, but because it was approx. $1500 more, decided on RCI. What a sacrifice, eh? Sailing on a ship with mini-golf, ice-skating, rock climbing etc!! We are with one other family so we'll be 4 adults, 3 teens, and 1 child. We are so excited! Have you cruised RCI before?

Before kids, my husband and I sail RCI's Nordic Empress (now Empres of the Seas.) She's their smallest ship but at the time it seemed huge, LOL! I cannot imagine how big the Mariner would seem but I really like everything that has been said about her. You'll have to try to remember and give me a trip report when you get home. If RCI doesn't release their summer 2005 bookings out of Baltimore I may just be on the Mariner!

I think you made a good decision, especially based on the ages in your group. Disney was great one time but I think I'm ready to move on now. Have you checked out cruisecritic.com? Their RCI message boards are really good. I hang out there sometimes.

PS...Thanks Sammy for the car/taxi info. I figured it may easier to take a cab to the car rental place. Thanks again!
