Getting anywhere outside of WDW when you are staying inside WDW

I should have titled this post as "finding a needle in a haystack".

My never ending dilemma of getting to Universal and Kennedy Space Center from ASSp has finally come to an end, I think!

A taxi for 6 will be $45 one way. We can come and go anytime we wish. Mears quote was $12 per person roundtrip ($72 for my family) and we had to go at 7:15am, 8:15am, 9:15am (you get the picture) and return anytime everyhour on the half hour. Tiffany Town Car quote was $60 for six people. Come and go anytime you would like.

:bounce:

I didn't even think about getting a taxi quote to Kennedy Space Center. Mears quote was $19 per person round trip. Leaving only Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. All Star Sports pick up is 8:15 am and the return time is only 6:30 pm. Tiffany Town Car quote was $200 pick up and leave anytime I want.

:smooth:

So do I pay for convenience to Kennedy or do I go with the Mears less expensive quote. That is the question of the day.

I need to add that to rent a car (minivan needed) for 10 days would have been $300 more even after deducting most expensive ways to get to and from Universal and Kennedy. I even tried a 5 day rental returning the car in the middle of the trip and it was still $50 more expensive with the addition of having to take 2 hours out of my time to return the car to the Car Place at WDW and get back to the resort. We really don't use the car to get to and from inside WDW, so the car is not worth it for us.

Hopefully this info will help others.

Linda;)

If you can manage to fit the rental in sometime between Thursday and Sunday, and you take it for 2 days, you may even be able to get a weekend rate. Even if you pay the daily business rate, it's not likely to be more than about $50/day for a car that will seat six. Do book it in advance, though; walk-up rates are the worst, and they may not have what you want available at that time. Especially with Kennedy, you may find that you want to leave earlier than taking a full day (IME, many people find that the place is not what they expected.)

I know that that Natl. has a desk at the Dolphin; there may be others as well.

Here are some suggestions:

(1) Did you try all the Dollar rental car codes? They usually bring up a minivan at $199 or $209 per week.

(2) The Florida Space Coast web site offers a special with Avis. They have minivans for $256.99 per week or $49.99 per day.

(3) Priceline has also come through for people. I've seen rates between $15 and $25 per day for a minivan. Check TravelSheryl's Priceline board for more info on how to bid on Priceline: http://pub4.ezboard.com/bpricelineandexpediabidding

Very interesting car quotes. WDW Travel quoted $648 to rent a minivan for 10 days, and $498 to rent it for five. We are not going to Universal or Kennedy on back to back days, nor will that fit into our schedule so renting the car for only the days we will need it will be renting returning, and renting returning, something I am not willing to do.

Robin I will look into those car quotes and see what I can find.

Thanks for adding all of your thoughts, I'm sure this will help others as well.
