Get in Shape & Lose Weight for August 2014 Group

So this week went pretty well. As I posted before, I ran for 35 straight minutes and have finished the 5K runner app. I will keep using it though to run the recommended 2 to 3 times a week and stay on the treadmill until the weather is warm enough for me to transition to outside. I'm still walking on the treadmill T, TH and Sat while running M,W and Fri. Sun, T and Th I've been doing arm, legs and abs.

My weigh ins are Friday mornings after my run but before I shower. I stayed the same from last Friday to this past Friday. I checked my BMI and it looks like I'm right in the middle of where I am suppose to be so that made me happy.

Goals continue to be the same. Eat healthy and exercise.

Checking in:

This was a horrible week in so many ways, but I still managed to get some yoga done and have been doing some body weight only exercises. Considering the week, I think I did really well and am happy with the way it ended up.

We had company over twice, so big fancy meals - that were also very healthy. Dessert 4 times this week, but they were healthy desserts - well mostly ;) but since I didn't have a lot of the less healthy desserts I'm okay with that as well. Over all, my week was pretty good health wise.

On the downside, my heart is still causing problems, so I have to remain on low stress, low cardio, low everything to prevent possible problems.

Checking in: Hi everyone. This has been a rough week for me. I spent most of it in my sweats laying down on my couch. Things seem to be getting better slower than I'd like, but I guess I need to be patient. I've been able to use my phone, but it's too uncomfortable to sit with my laptop yet. I hope that changes soon because my work is willing to at least have me work from home, but I can't if I can't use the laptop. Food has been boring. Rice, toast, boiled chicken, fish, apple sauce, juice, you get the idea. I've been trying to get walks in around the house, but it's hard wrapping my head around activity in these terms. On a good note, this is the first day that I actually feel better than I did yesterday, so that's a good thing. I can't wait to get back to feeling like myself and continuing forward. I know I've lost weight, but I haven't weighed myself because I'm sure when I can start eating better it will go back up and I don't want to think about this process in that way. My goals this week are to continue to get better. I'd like to gradually add some fiber back in my diet and start taking a probiotic to help straighten me out. I need to keep doing my walks, so will try to set up a regular schedule now. Maybe 5-10 minutes every 3 hours. That'll give me at least half an hour a day. I need to start journaling it so I stay on task.

I really miss the routine I was getting into a few weeks ago and sharing that with you guys. My long term goal is to get back to that. I can see that taking at least a month or two. So my long term goal is to try and stay focused and motivated enough to get there.

I'm looking forward to read how all of you are doing this week. Hope things have been going well for everyone!

I am so happy to hear that you are feeling better even if it's only a little bit. Use the fact that you are eating not a lot and bland to help with how much and what you start putting back into your daily diet.

What is going on with finding out what is wrong with your heart? Is it a waiting game for now?

My husband (who has been a runner for years) says running outside is both easier and harder. The difference in the surface/elevations will make it seem "harder" (though he said not really harder, exactly--just different). He did say that I will be faster outside, though. :)

That is what my husband keeps telling me too. It's easier because you have stuff to look at while you are running but harder because of what you are running on.

I have always found running outside to be much easier on my knees. It also passes a lot faster.

When you run on a treadmill you should always set the incline to at least 0.5 to mimic the outdoors better. Otherwise the treadmill starts doing some work for you. But the pounding on your knees is worse on a treadmill. Also if you're prone to shin splints like I am, the treadmill is horrible for that.

You tend to take shorter, harder strides on a treadmill. So while your first couple runs outdoors might feel harder, your legs and back will thank you later. And having stuff to look at really does make a huge difference.

I sometimes like treadmill running because I am horrible at pacing myself. So I like to switch back and forth between treadmill, trails, and road running.

My DH on the other hand hates all kinds of running. He literally chants "I hate running" they entire time. :)

I think this is my first time checking in after my initial post...I knew I'd be the one slacker hanging out over here.

I've been keeping track of my exercise and food with myfitnesspal, and it's been great for keeping me accountable. I keep all the food logged...even the two trips to Dairy Queen. Look, a girl's gotta have the confetti cake blizzard.

Last week was my first full week of running in preparation for the PHM 2015. On Day 4 I ran a 8:46 mile and I still can't figure out how, lol. That's two minutes faster than my normal time. I'm guessing it was a freak occurrence. Maybe my timer messed up?? I don't know.

Today it was pouring down rain, so after I dropped the kids off I skipped the running track and came home to Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred Level 1. That workout usually kicks my butt, but today I was able to hang with it.

I'm not keeping track of my weight right now b/c I don't have a scale, but in terms of my endurance (which is what matters most to me right now) I see a huge improvement in just one week.

I'm feeling better, I'm sleeping better, and I have more energy.

Also, if anyone is looking for a good running shoe, I highly recommend the New Balance 890v4. They're the most amazing shoes I've ever put on my feet.

Awesome!

I love Jillian Michaels' workouts, I think I have them all!

I just started her Body Revolution again and I'm pairing that with running.

And not having a scale can sometimes be a good thing. If you stepped on the scale and were not happy with your weight this week, you might have missed out on feeling that huge improvement. I find that weeks where I forget to weigh myself I usually feel the results of the workout more. Like you said, I sleep better, feel better, etc. And then there are those horrible weeks where the scale doesn't budge, or worse it goes up, and I feel like everything I did was a waste.

And that's never true. Any effort is good effort. So it's GREAT that you can feel the difference at one week. Congrats!

I finally feel well enough to get on the computer a little bit. I went through and added all the new members. So.. a little late, but welcome to:

GoofyJen, MaggieMouse, BuckeyeBama, Blakelynn, michelle996, alicat8, Castillo Mom, and Ismo.
:welcome:
If I missed you please, please let me know and I'll add you to our post #2 list.

I feel better today, but can't shake this kind of dizzy feeling. It makes it kind of scary to think of driving yet. I'm not taking anything for the pain anymore. I went for a short walk outside yesterday with the family. I was the slowpoke :)

Glad you are feeling better. I had emergency gall bladder surgery last May and it really took a good month for me to get back to my normal self. Take it easy and work your way back up!

I feel out of the loop. I've been MIA completely from the boards except for reading/skimming here an have been caught up in a budget fight in my towns school system. It's not looking promising and the town meetings are over next week when lo and behold it's school vacation time and people, including us, will be away. I wish we were squeezing in a Disney trip- of only we were a little closer, but instead we are driving down to a relative in NC followed by a couple days at Myrtle Beach (SO CLOSE, yet so farrr). I'm excited but stressed about packing. All summer clothes are up in the attic and I don't even know if we will need summer clothes or if it will be jeans weather. I also don't know what size my current summer wardrobe is.

Well, I weighed myself this morning. I'm down 20 lbs since the end of January. To say I'm nervous about going away next week is an understatement.

Local politics can be tiring. People here complain about having good teachers but aren't willing to give pay raises to attract new teachers or keep the good ones that we have. It's a vicious cycle.

Yay for 20lbs! :cool1:

You will do great while on vacation. Just use your head when it comes to making a choice from any menus.

I'm afraid this week has been difficult to keep up with. Also, not the best diet wise, unless eating Marshmallow double chocolate chunk cherry muffins is actually good for you. ;)

But I have been getting more exercise in day to day life and am on day 9 of the 30 day plank challenge. So it's something I'm happy about. And I think my hearts improving! I have a Dr appt tomorrow, so hopefully I get good news.

Good morning! Another day has dawned which means another early morning spent on the treadmill. Tomorrow evening has been chosen for my first outdoor run. My first thought was "Yay, I can sleep in" but then I thought I should probably get a walk in just in case I don't run for as long as I normally do.

Good vibes to everyone! :)

I made it!!! Today is the last day of my blood sugar detox!!!! I have lost 3 inches off my hips and 3 inches off my waste in 10 days!!!! I am thinking about taking tomorrow off but I don't know. I don't think I can go back to eating like I was.

Wow! Awesome job. How hard was it at first?

I won't lie it was not easy. I think it helped that I quit all soda, caffeine, and alcohol a week before the detox. I had headaches for 4 days and then I was ok. I definitely look at food different. I did not know how healthy I could feel.
