Get in Shape & Lose Weight for August 2014 Group

Good evening! I just caught up with the weekend's posts and they really cheered me up. Can't wait to go back through and catch up back to about Wednesday. I spent the weekend in the hospital. I went to the ER after going through about 6 hours of intense abdominal pain. After some tests I was admitted and today I had my (very angry) gallbladder removed. And, yes, it was finally morphine that brought enough relief to sort of sleep last night. The procedure was laproscopic and I was real ease using fastpath guidelines, so I'm currently at home readying with everyone I love around and taking care of me. So much better than at the hospital. So my next week or two is going to be really focused on healing and the following two to four weeks will be working myself back to "normal". I'd still like to hang out here, but not sure how to do so in relation to the rest of you guys' journeys. I'm sure I'll figure something out. Take care everyone...

That is awful but hopefully you will be better now!

This group is awesome! I'm loving seeing the weight loss, goals achieved, distance running progress- you are all amazing!! I rocked it at the gym this morning- two ten minute segments for running! No gasping or pain- just felt STRONG and loved it. Definitely feels good to be back in control today! Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

Gah! Having one of those days where I am trying to eat All The Things! They don't even taste good, but I'm eating them anyway (cheese curls, dilly bar). Two steps forward, one step back I guess. :(

I hear you. Food is seriously so bad to me. Some days I'm so so good and others I just lose that control!

The "hungry horrors" are tough, but put today behind you and focus on how much better you'll do tomorrow.

General Guidelines

Check in at least once a week on Saturday. (Sunday as an alternate.)

Stick to the Code... they're more like "guidelines" than actual rules pirate:

  • If I do any type of activity, I will see it as a positive thing.
  • Food is not my enemy. I need to give my body what it needs to be the best it can be.
  • I will try to do more for myself today than I did yesterday.
  • I will give myself permission not to be perfect.
  • I will take a short break if my body and/or mind really needs it. When I'm able, I will start up again without feelings of guilt.
  • I will do something good for myself/have fun/relieve stress.
  • I will try to get enough sleep and rest.

Hi dijiMom, can I still join? Sorry I'm late to the party but I was already participating in the March Madness thread. Had a great March so I'm pumped to just go ahead and make a longer range goal by joining the August challenge. Thank you so much for starting this thread!

Since things are on the upswing I feel like it's time to look a few months ahead. I'm thinking I'd like to lose between 20-25 by 8/1/14. I know, kind of a lofty goal but I feel it's attainable if I can increase my activity level which I started to do. I will continue with my mini goals which for April will be 6 pounds. Hope I can do it!

I can add you, but it might a day or so. In fact, for anyone that needs to be added, it might be easier if you can PM me.

My recovery is doing OK. I'm in that stage where the pain medicine is making me feel icky, but I hurt if I don't take it. I've been sleeping a lot. I've been trying to walk around the house a bit. My diets been really bland: toast, jello, apple juice.. I'm so ready to feel better...

Please add me. Weekly check in I finished my detox prep day 7 of no soda or coffee. My family is still alive. Now starting my 10 day detox. I am running consistently now. This morning I thought my muscles were going to freeze due being below freezing!!

I finally walked 10,000 steps in one day!!! My Fitbit started vibrating and flashing when I was walking down the stairs to get the laundry and I started screaming like an idiot, "I hit 10,000 steps!!" :rotfl2:

Also, I feel like I have been sleeping better, and last night the Fitbit recorded "awake 0x and restless 3x". That is a HUGE improvement!

Congrats!!!! That is such a great feeling!!!!

All of these positive posts are so uplifting! Way to go everyone!

Today I started the 30 day plank challenge and 90 day squat challenge. 20 sec plank done, and 50 squats done - both with a baby on my back! And I made a huge change in our day to day life that should lead me to a healthier happier me - and thus our whole family. My DD7 is in a french class on Mondays that starts about an hour before i'm human. Yesterday we made the decision to stop the class, this'll give 3 of our 4 children an extra hour of sleep every monday and decrease the fighting the rest of the week. Less fighting, means less stress, which means happy heart for me - which hopefully means things'll be on track for riding the roller coasters in August! 1 hour of sleep makes a huge difference in my life. ;)

Oh no, so sorry to hear that you've been ill. I haven't had a chance to go through the thread other than the last few posts. Hope you get better soon and please don't feel the need to keep up with all of us, you take care of yourself right now.

Friday is the big day! I'll be running a 5K on the treadmill with my 5K runner app.

I'm doing 5K to 10K now, and right now I'm procrastinating because today I'm supposed to do a 40 minute steady run. ;)

I did it! I ran the 40 minutes (worked out to about 3.2 miles of strictly running--not counting the warm up and cool down walks). I'm so pleased! I figured out that I ran it in approximately 12.5 minute miles, which is an improvement for me. So excited!!

Is it took late to join this group?

We have Disney booked Aug. 15-23rd. I have already lost 15 and I want to lose another 15 by Disney.

I love running and that's my favorite activity, just don't get to do it as much as I would like.

Also I have thing called Kienbock's Disease. Not actually a disease though. It's avascular nercrosis of the lunate bone. It makes it impossible for me to do some moves.

For instance, I can do push-ups, but I have to do them on my knuckles. But if I'm having a bad wrist day, I can't do them at all. I struggle with a lot of Yoga poses because of this as well.

I wear a wrist brace pretty much all of the time. Trying to avoid surgery until early next year.

So running is something I can do. But I am struggling with upper body exercises lately.

Also, I'm training for the Tough Mudder. I did it last year with a wrist brace on it and it wasn't too bad. There were some obstacles I could just not do, but I managed most of them.

Anyone else out there doing upper body strengthening with hand or wrist injuries? Any tips?

Omg you are a speed queen! Way to go!!! I can't wait to hear more of your progress!

Thanks so much! I sure wasn't a speed queen even just a short time ago, so I'm very encouraged. Maybe I'll do okay in my runDisney race in the fall. :)
