Get in Shape & Lose Weight for August 2014 Group

I'm sorry to hear about all the doctoring this week! :/ It's completely understandable that you wouldn't have had time to get much exercise in--and that you would be very cautious as to what exercises are okay. I hope you are soon able to get a handle on what's going on and feel completely better.

:goodvibes Thanks! I'm sure it'll all turn out to be not much of anything. But just in case my Dr is being extra cautious. Yoga done today so that's something!

Checking in for the sake of consistency:

Everything was going awesome until Wednesday. I was eating my salads and smoothies. I exercised every morning, rotating my march to fitness, fat boost, and boot camp videos. Then Wednesday night bam! I can't describe the pain with abdominal cramping and throwing up. The next morning I felt better, but didn't eat much. After dinner again, bam! Another painful night. I went to the doctors and I either have a stomach illness that's going around or my gallbladder's attacking me. I'm getting an ultrasound Tuesday and until then I'm eating sicky foods like jello, crackers, gatoraid, and chicken soup.

Hope you feel better soon and it's just a virus! I've had gall attacks before and those are awful! It's the only pain I've ever had that required morphine to cope with. :faint: Just focus on getting better.

Success! The scale finally moved downward yesterday - - down 1.5 pounds. :thumbsup2

I met my workout goals last week, but I didn't drink as much water as I wanted to, nor did I journal my eating well.

Goals for this week:
Activity - 3 days strength train (6 exercises from personal trainer) and 45 minutes walking briskly on treadmill; 3 days just treadmill, walking/jogging 5K.

Food - Journal all food eaten in MyFitnessPal, and stick to 1490 calories per day.

Water - 64 ounces per day

Have a great week everyone!

Awesome! It sounds like you've been doing great, keep up the great work!

It's actually called Sweet Kale Vegetable Salad Mix. I first found it at Costco, but now it seems to be popping up at grocery stores. It comes with dried cranberries and pumpkin seeds in a separate package. It also includes a package of poppyseed dressing. I use a low fat raspberry vinaigrette instead of the Poppyseed though and add fruit and red onions to my salad. Yum!!! :goodvibes

I hope we have this! Sounds delish!

Made goal weight today!!! I am going to aim to lose 4 1/2 more bit won't be upset if that doesn't happen. I'm feeling so pleased. :)

But! Personal victory: I an currently wearing old jeans that now fit again! ::happy dance::

Woooohooo! :cool1:

I'm not doing very well this week. It's been a very, VERY stressful week with 3 trips to the hospital (only 2 of them were for our family) and 2 doctor appts outside of that, plus an appt I canceled b/c that was enough Drs for this family for one week.

For the most part things should be okay, but it's still stressful. I also didn't stop and buy any quick meals, instead I had healthy snacks with us, and then had a quick curry when we got home so still stayed healthy diet wise, but there's been no real exercise during the past week. I haven't even been focusing on posture. BUt I did haul 4 children through the snow and from one end of the hospital to the other several times - while carrying an extra 20lbs and pushing an extra 100, so that counts for something, right? ;)

I forgot to ask my Dr if running or working-out was okay. She completely threw me when she told me no wine :sad1: or caffeine  of any type until I get in to see the cardiologist. So I guess for the time being I stick to yoga. I'm terrified if I do anything and mess up my heart now, I won't be able to ride the good rides! :scared1:

I'd rather ride rides than work-out any day! :rotfl2:

I actually think you did very well this week, considering your challenges. Way to go! Hope all the health situations have good prognoses.

For the sake of consistency, I lost 5 pounds for a total of 7 so far, but that number really doesn't mean much this week. I wouldn't recommend this method for weight loss. (Lame attempt at humor :) )

I promise to go through and add new people, etc when I feel better. I need to use my laptop for that and right now sitting in that position doesn't feel great. I have been reading through the posts and send everyone supportive thoughts.

Aw, man, I hope you feel better really soon!

Yay for that scale victory and nice goals!

Well, after my great first part of the week, things slid downhill a little. I'm not eating enough so I'm tired and starving all the time. Not good. I'm gonna whine a little about the fact that I cannot stand all the cooking and cleanup that goes along with a paleo diet. I TRIED to combat that because I've been doing this long enough that I know that's one of my stumbling points. I've been making extra food at dinner and freezing it into individual meals, basically making my very own TV dinners, for when I need an extra meal. Then the microwave broke (new one arriving on Wednesday). So there's that. We ended up going out to Jason's Deli for lunch yesterday, and I did okay, but did have non-paleo ranch dressing on my salad.

My workout buddy has been really busy, so 3 of our workouts have been cancelled. I think I'm going to stop relying on going with her for my workouts and go on my own. She only ever wants to do cardio anyways, so it works out that if one day she can go, I can just do a little cardio with her. If she can't go at all, then I don't need to worry about it because I'll already have my main workout done (since I'm trying to cut back on cardio).

Okay, so that's my update. Will try to make this week better!

I've been doing great! Went out to dinner with old friends last night though and it was Sangria O' Clock and tapas and a fee bites if dessert followed by a buzzed mini binge when I got home (scared). However- I'm working my butt off and I will let myself have fun and feel good every so often! Tomorrow begins week 6 of 5k runner which is amazing!

Biggest complaint is the MONSOON weather we have had this weekend. I haven't gotten in any extra walks and have galled behind in my fitbit steps which is a bummer.

Oh! I forgot to add a progress note. Yesterday I tried on a dress in a 6P from Ann Taylor and it fit perfectly! The only reason I didn't buy it was because I need a dress for church and I didn't think the style of this one was what I was looking for. But it sure did look good! :thumbsup2

Thanks. I'm trying to look at the positive side of things, but sometimes it's tough.

A little fun once in a while is well worth it. I'd be happy with a monsoon - as long as the snow was gone and the sun came out at the end. I'm ready for heat!

That's awesome! All the food prep is paying off. :goodvibes

Good evening! I just caught up with the weekend's posts and they really cheered me up. Can't wait to go back through and catch up back to about Wednesday.

I spent the weekend in the hospital. I went to the ER after going through about 6 hours of intense abdominal pain. After some tests I was admitted and today I had my (very angry) gallbladder removed. And, yes, it was finally morphine that brought enough relief to sort of sleep last night. The procedure was laproscopic and I was real ease using fastpath guidelines, so I'm currently at home readying with everyone I love around and taking care of me. So much better than at the hospital.

So my next week or two is going to be really focused on healing and the following two to four weeks will be working myself back to "normal". I'd still like to hang out here, but not sure how to do so in relation to the rest of you guys' journeys. I'm sure I'll figure something out. Take care everyone...

I am so glad that you are ok. Get plenty of rest.

Please don't go any where! Stay and keep us updated on your recovery and your eventual resuming of activity. :)

I felt SO MUCH better after my gall bladder was removed. I hope you have a similar response.

So glad you got everything figured out, and that miserable gallbladder removed!

Please stay. Your journey has shifted, but it isn't over. Part of being healthy is healing. Part of healing is being healthy. There are different ways to heal, you can make conscious choices to still exercise even if not the same level as before surgery. And you can still make conscious choices to eat well and keep yourself active within the Dr prescribed guidelines. It's different, but it doesn't have to stop.

Good morning! Dark and gloomy here from the rain we've been getting. My fingers are crossed that we get a little sunshine today.

Ran my first 28 minutes straight today. Whoohoo! My actual distance is still slow but I was able to run without gasping for air or being in pain so I'm pretty happy with myself. I'm on Week 8 of the 5K runner so this it.

My goals for this week are the same as every week. Keep at it! Continue to run, eat right and do a little ab/arm/leg work.

Have a great week everyone!

Hey guys-hopping over from the Aug thread to get some motivation. I've been away from the gym for 2 years and I need to get back. I have a bad knee that will probably put a damper on my trip if I don't strengthen it.

Need to be held accountable for getting back to the gym this week. Tired of donating money to them!!

Oh my gosh, I KNOW about the cooking and cleaning! I feel like I spend all night in the kitchen. One thing that's helped me is to put on some fun music so at least Im not suffering in silence lol. It's weird - sometimes I don't mind at all and some weeks Im mad all night about being in the kitchen all night again. I hope you can get into a routine soon so it will seem less like drudgery. And great idea with the freezer meals!

whooo hoo! Congrats on starting week 6! You are doing great.

Glad you had fun with friends! It can be scary though, can't it?!? I did the same this weekend. Had some fun and way over ate and was a little freaked out by it, but today I am back on track and feel totally in control, so I'm happy about that. Good for you for acknowledging that was a quick thing and getting back at it!

Stay! You are still trying to be good and lose a little weight before August - you are just taking a little health break! When you are feeling better and have healedI know you will get right back on track!

Wow, 28 minutes is a LONG TIME! Congrats! You are doing awesome!

Check In...
Didn't lose anything this week. I'm feeling ok with it though - I lost a ton last week and it is also the week before my period starts so I'm always the same or even up that week. Not letting it get me down mentally!

Goals from last week...nd my first arm workout!
I did my 6 days of cardio, 3 leg days, and 3/4 ab workouts Also did 2 arm days

So my goals this week...
Sticking with last week's goals.....Stick with the 6 days cardio, 3 leg days - bumping up to 2 of those being with weights, and bump it to 4 ab workouts. Add an additional 16 oz water every day. 2 days of arms with weights.

Some closing thoughts...
The weight routines weren't too boring this week. So that's good. I'm going to keep plugging away on that. Although I didn't lose my pants feel a little looser than they did last week which is the goal!
