Fabulous!!! A HUGE congratulations to you!

I'm 40. :cool2:

So I guess I'm a slowpoke. I've been working on the 5K app and getting really excited because I've gotten to the point where I can maintain a run for 20 minutes with no pain or getting really winded. I noticed a discussion on here about treadmill speeds being in the 4.7 range so I actually paid attention to mine. 2.6. 2.6! 2.6!! I might be getting to a good point with my distance but I guess I really need to work on my speed. It felt fast to me. Felt sucky about myself last night.

Oh no! Working towards a 5k is nothing to feel sucky about! I started to look over people's shoulders at the gym to see their speeds and started feeling really sucky and literally killing myself trying to copy and then quitting and feeling failure. As the runs are getting longer I've been significantly lowering my speed. I tell myself that just being there and moving for a half hour is far more than I was doing a month ago and it makes a difference!! Also all the extra walking/pacing around my house to get the steps- it's not going to transform me into a supermodel but it is helping me lose weight and is better than sitting around on the couch for hours. Distance running requires slow paced. I figure once I achieve the 5k I can start playing around with the speeds.

YOU ARE AMAZING!

I think if you are moving you are doing fantastic! Speed is not everything. Don't compare yourself to others, think about how far you have come!

Ok my fitbit has stopped syncing to my iPhone!!! Anyone have this problem?

Oh, please don't compare! The point is to go at a pace you can maintain for the distance without huffing and puffing. You build your stamina first and THEN bump up your speed. It sounds to me like you are making excellent progress and doing a great job. Don't sell yourself short!

It has happened to me twice but only for a short period of time. The longest stretch was probably an hour and a half.

pikester - DON'T get discouraged! As the others have said, we all need to progress at our own pace and you have to acknowledge your own improvement from when you started this journey.

You're covering 5K - that's a long distance! :thumbsup2

So just wanted to check in, diet & fitness-wise.

I have been doing fairly well sticking to my paleo diet. I don't know what happened yesterday though. I was literally in the process of chopping veggies for a salad for lunch, went to put some in the fridge, saw the container of DS' leftover mac & cheese and decided I NEEDED to have some right at that moment. In the middle of making my salad. So weird. I did eat some, and I did stop because leftover, reheated mac & cheese? Not that yummy. Haha

I'm proud of myself for stopping after a few bites. And those few bites aren't going to hurt me. I'm just wondering what came over me? I wasn't feeling deprived (or so I thought?). I wasn't craving anything other than all the avocado I was cutting up for my salad. Than BAM - FEED ME MAC AND CHEESE.

Last night I was supposed to do a Zumba with weights class with my workout buddy, but she couldn't make it. Instead of just staying home, I went and did some back & shoulders, and some arms on the weight machines. I was proud of myself for that as well, because usually I will take any excuse to skip the gym, especially at 8 pm when I just want to wind down for the day.

Lots of positive things so far this week! I know this isn't the official check in day, but I can easily drown myself in negativity and felt like I should be pre-emptively positive. :cheer2:

Good job! Both for your actions and your self-talk!

Yesterday I switched up my routine at the gym a little bit. Every other day, I strength train, and yesterday was a cardio-only day. I am bored by the stationary bike so I decided to just walk on the treadmill for longer. As I was walking, I wondered how long it would take me to walk 5K. I do the "Random" program on the Life Fitness treadmill, so the incline changes throughout. I walked the entire time (I'm not ready to jog yet) and I reached 3.26 miles in 60 minutes. NOTE that 5 kilometers actually equates to 3.10686 miles (I looked it up when I got home), so I walked 5K in less than 60 minutes. Next cardio-only day (tomorrow) I'm going to change it to 2.5% incline and increase the speed and see how long it takes me to reach 3.11 miles. I walked/jogged a 5K on Castaway Cay a year and a half ago in just under 45 minutes, but I was about 20 pounds lighter then.

Thank you everyone! :grouphug:

I'm over it (mostly) and will keep doing what I'm doing.

I couldn't even force a sync from laptop so I had to reset the fitbit. Luckily you don't lose any data but I'm hoping I don have to do this every month!!

Today was SUCH a good day! I walked on the treadmill (through New Zealand today ;) ) for about 35 minutes this morning and did some strength exercises. Then, after I got some housework accomplished, I RODE MY HORSE!!! It's actually not bone-numbingly cold here today, so I was able to go for a ride (and do a little work with my baby horse which burns a surprising number of calories ;) ). So so so happy. :)

Alright, there's snow on the ground this morning. :faint: But I just try to keep looking at how we're supposed to be in the 50s this weekend and how "this too shall pass."

So question for everyone: Do you plan on modifying your workout or adding activities to your workout plan once the weather gets better and Spring/Summer sets in? If so, what?

I can't wait until it's warm enough to go for evening walks again. It's not a big calorie burner, but our family likes to walk around the neighborhood with our dog, Lucy, or along a walking/biking trail that's really close to our house through a wooded county park. It's a nice activity we can do together. We also have a pool we put up in our backyard. It's an Intex, but it's 24' by almost 5' deep so it's big enough to actually swim in. Can't wait! I also would like to get back into biking. I have a bike hung up in the garage that I didn't use last summer because I was afraid I'd fall and re-injure my knee.

I am so ready for summer! We like walking here too, maybe do some biking, but mostly I garden. I have several holes to dig, dirt to haul, maybe some stone. We have a push/reel mower so even mowing the bit pf lawn we have is a work out, strap a baby to my back and it's even better.

Is anyone else here planning to still have children? We'd like to have one more next year and the thought of all this work now and then starting it all over again. Oy!! Have to focus on one day at a time I guess!!!

Our 4th is 7 months old. We're done now. :cloud9:

I was in great shape before getting PG each time. But before my 4th, I intentionally got healthy and working out. This made a huge difference in my pregnancy and in labour and delivery.

I am 47 and my wife, who also posts using this account, is 48. But, for us, age is just a number. Your real age has little to do with that number. It is more about who you are, how you think and what you do. :goodvibes

Sometimes you need something, especially in the beginning of a new diet. I recall many cinnamon buns being consumed when I first went gluten-free. The desire disappeared as I found other, better, things to have instead.

Awesome going to the gym even though you had an excuse not to! :cheer2:

That's an area I'm not very good at - an excuse not to go out means I don't. :sad2:

You've improved from where you were and your stamina has increased. That's great! I doubt i could run for 20 minutes without getting winded, even at 'slow' speeds.

If you must compare, compare yourself to yourself. Challenge yourself, based on yourself. Not on anyone else.

Awesome! I don't go tot he gym or have a treadmill at home, but I would love to know how far I walk/run when I do go out. I used to have a pedometer, but the battery died and has never been replaced. I'm considering something like the UP2, but am not sure it'd be worth it for me or not.
