Geriatric MM Warriors!

Oh, I think the Good Earth is fine. I'll re-read the pages on D-ribose and see if it mentions the arthritis. I know an anti-inflammatory diet will help a lot.

Thank you again for sending that scan Lisa. I'm still researching. I'm trying to find out what the mechanism is for the insulin increase in response to the supplement if they know. I'm actually wondering if anyone has looked into whether there's any correlation between excess insulin and too little ribose? Anyway, don't try to figure me out too much. I'm on on of my kick's. ;)

Barb, I love Rooibos tea! Yum! I fix it just like normal tea with a little milk (well half and half now) and sweetener. It's such a comfort food for me. Well drink.

Nell, the one I found that I love from Good Earth is called Sweet & Spicy Red Tea. No added sweetner needed. Here are the ingredients. Tell me if you think they are all neutral:
Red rooibos, Chicory root, rosehips, cinnamon, peppermint, ginseng leaves, orange peel, anise seed, dandelion root, lemongrass, papaya, chamomile, ginger root, orange oil.

The papaya is way down the list. What do you think?

Thank you Lisa.

My other half just got home from the VA. It turns out there is severe arthritis in both knees that got aggravated from the new job now. We have a walker, medications, supplements, appointments in Tampa, possible surgery. It's a mess. I'm scared. A bunch of other medical issues too. Too complex to go into.

I also don't know how I'm going to keep buying the right foods for this WOE. I hope step two comes up soon. Carbs are cheaper.

Papaya leaves are an herb. I wonder which they are using? I think it's fine. Just check the sugars vs carbs and see how many of the carbs are sugars. There are natural carbs in an tea and I think Diane has said ok on them.

Oh, by the way, the tea sounds wonderful! I would like to try it!

Sorry if I stirred up a mess about the pumpkin and squash! I just wanted to point out that Diane had specifically said to stay away from them until step 3, but she understood about Thanksgiving and said to just have the pie sparinglyand to be careful. I have no idea why the sweet potatoes are different either?:confused3

I agree that we need to be gentle with ourselves!! Even in our desire to be "perfect" (will never happen here!!) and strict with the plan, we always have to acknowledge that we will slip and we will still be ok! I just figured that the step 1 return would help re-rest L and P, and maybe jump start the losses on returning to step 2! Thats what I am hoping for myself!! I agree with Lisa on the soda though, that definitely might be causing the waistline bloat. Worth giving it at try to cut it out! I still go to a handful of almonds every now and again, but I know that when I stopped going to them several times a day it made a big difference for me. We are all different, so Im sure we all have different things that trigger us! And the PB too, like Nell has said...if I have a couple tbsp a day I am fine, any more than that and I feel fluffy again! I am trying to substitute an Atkins shake for my snack before going to bed instead of my turkey rollups, and it seems my blood sugar is better in the morning? Makes no sense to me, but whatever works!

Lisa - sorry, I just figured you were the vinegar girl!!;) LOVE YOU!! No matter what you eat and try to make ME eat, you are the sweetest, most wonderful person and I appreciate everything you TRY to get me to try!! And you are so right that so much of this WOE is emotional, and thats why I think it helps me so much to have all of you!!

Nell - so sorry to hear about M's results at the VA...please e-mail me and let me know whats up. A walker and possible surgery doesnt sound good, but we will all be praying for good results! If it is going to help for the future, then its another case of do what you have to do!

Barb - I see you have your Donald's in a row, I guess I will be getting my Minnies in a row! (my aol address is minnnie)::MinnieMo::MinnieMo::MinnieMo::MinnieMo

Where is Bev?

Thank you Lisa.

Oh Nell, I'm so sorry for him and you. I'm assuming all his medical is being covered by the VA? The problem now is he's not working and he was the only source of income? Can he get a VA disability out of this, is it related to a duty injury? There are ways to to step1 or step2 on a budget and we'll help you figure it out. Don't panic, ok? Keep us posted. We're here to help and calm your fears.

Nell: I am so sorry to hear of Marti's distress. That is hard to face, but the surgeries might help a lot in the long run. Is there a disability payment in the interim? Don't worry about discussing finances if you don't care to. We had such a devastating time when Tom got cancer even though he had sick leave, we've been used to lots of overtime for 30+ years and had a kid in college at the same time. It hits you out of the blue sometimes and we always mean to prepare for rainy days, but in this economy it's hard to do. You are very frugal and wise and I know you will find a way to make it through this rough time. Our prayers are with you both.:littleangel:

Robin: You didn't stir up any mess! There are no messes over here, remember? Free speech rules! Although pumpkin and squash stirred up sounds kinda tasty...Love you, Robin!

Robin, Love You! After I re-read step2 last night it was pretty obvious that there was no squash on the added veggies list. But in my pea brain, I (unintentionally) had gone ahead and used the net (blatant) carbs rule when I added the devious squashes to my meals. I remember how upset I was when the whole subject came up when someone over at LCF wanted to eat icecream bars and Diane responded with the TECHNICALLY ok 5x5 deal. That it was nowhere in the book really bummed me out and I had decided to go strickly by the book. Well, I'm ready to go back to step1 for 10 days to rest my L&P and get a fresh start, BY THE BOOK.

Enjoy your day off my friend.

Ok, honest opinions here. I do have some of the ice cream bars. Are they allowed or not? I have only had 3 over the past couple weeks, so it's not an ever day kind of thing. Not like my jello and whipped cream ;)
But if it is not a good thing, I have no problem not eating them. Just want to do this right.

I'm a nervous wreck today. I think I mentioned that my little non-profit that I manage had to lay off my admin asst. Well, she was the one that did our GPS monitoring for us. We contract to counties and municipalities around here to do Electronic Home Monitoring in lieu of jail time for the courts. The software and equipment is pretty complicated. The device is attached to the ankle and GPS is activated by a satelite so we can track the defendants whereabouts. Well, I hadn't had to do it before she was laid off. I have my first hookup today! I'm so worried I'll set his inclusion zones wrong and he'll be free to roam the countryside :scared1: Luckily I have someone at another branch standing by the phone in case I need help. Wish me luck!

There was a 15% disablity from the Army already because of back injuries and knee surgury while enlisted. It will take a while but it should go up now.

It's going to be ok. I'm still doing slave labor for 40 dollars a week, so that will help buy food. Ok, not slave labor, piece work. I need to be more determined than ever to get into school. If we can make it through those 15 months, I'll have a secure job.

Do You Have Adrenal Fatigue?

When the adrenal glands are not functionining optimally, you can have a condition that is known as adrenal fatigue, or adrenal exhaustion. Adrenal fatigue often develops after periods of intense or lengthy physical or emotional stress, when overstimulation if the glands leave them unable to meet your body's needs.

Some other names for the syndrome include non-Addison's hypoadrenia, sub-clinical hypoadrenia, hypoadrenalism, and neurasthenia.

Symptoms include:
excessive fatigue and exhaustion
non-refreshing sleep (you get sufficient hours of sleep, but wake fatigued)
overwhelmed by or unable to cope with stressors
feeling rundown or overwhelmed
craving salty and sweet foods
you feel most energetic in the evening
a feeling of not being restored after a full night's sleep or having sleep disturbances
low stamina, slow to recover from exercise
slow to recover from injury, illness or stress
difficulty concentrating, brain fog
poor digestion
low immune function
food or environmental allergies
premenstrual syndrome or difficulties that develop during menopause
consistent low blood pressure
extreme sensitivity to cold

Geez!!! and I thought I was tired from doing a million zumba classes a week. LOL!!!

Hey Kathy. I don't mean to muddy the waters. When we all started at the other board, we were Going By The Book, only foods on the arrow chart. Then someone pointed out that at the bottom of the arrow chart it says "Foods or recipes that contain 5 gr or less of net carbs". That person contacted Diane and she said, that yes, blatant carbs can be used using the 5x5 rule, eventhough she didn't like to recommend it in the book. That's kinda when people started using all sorts of stuff as long as it was technically ok. I think it's one of those your mileage may vary things. If you have used them and are happy with your progress, then continue to enjoy them.

Barb, I'm so sorry you're so stressed today. I hope it all turns out ok. I'm sending you some calm vibes and <<<<<<hugs>>>>>>>:flower3::daisy:

Thanks Barb. I will use them as an occasional treat, unless I let the kids "find" them LOL.
I just don't want to screw up. I do need to lay off my whipped cream though!
Thanks Barb. And I do appreciate your being honest about it.

Good afternoon everyone! It is a beautiful day here today. Sun is shining and it's in the 60's. Feeling a little tired now, but won't have time for a nap probably :(
Lisa, I got the email, thank you. I will be reading it after I get Carrie at school.

By the way, the cop still hasn't called me back. I did try to call him, but he wasn't available. Hoping no news is good news.

I will catch up with you all in a while. I may jot over to the other forum just to check it out. I don't think I'll like it though.

Good Luck, Barb! While you are at it, can you put a GPS on your L & P so you can find them in 10 days. This roaming about on vacation has to be controlled!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Georgia Lee just sent me a very nice email letting me know I've been missed. :sad2: I'm not quite sure how to respond so I'm going to wait until I know.
