Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

Welcome back Jocelyn! We missed you!

Lisa - well its good to know that the laser thing didnt really help with the broken capillaries...here I was thinking that was going to be the way to fix it but I just couldnt afford it! At least I know it doesnt really work anyway...I just hate to keep my face out of the sun...maybe I will try that self tanner stuff and see if I can at least even out the skin tone...glad work is getting busy for you...sell sell sell! Work is dead these days for me...slow calls and no overtime...darn...guess I will have to find something else to do with my free time! lol, like fix my dumb computer !!

Diane - thanks for that info too....I had bought green tea cream, as that was supposed to help for facial redness and it has made no difference what so ever in the 3 months I have used it. I even had some dermatologist prescribed stuff (for the rosacea he said I had) and that made no difference either...Im pretty sure its just not rosacea at all! Do you have the name of that cream you used? I would love to try it! I will see if I can google something and come up with it...THANKS! sorry you arent feeling well...that cold thing is going around here too...cant tell if it is a cold or allergies...hoping I dont get it, and hoping you feel better soon!

Kathy - interesting info on the adrenal fatigue...sounds very familiar to me..mostof those symptoms have been me too! I was always told it was the symptoms of thyroid...and of course they keep telling me my thyroid tests are normal! AHHHHHH!! I swear I am going to get a referral so I can see an endo...get another opinion from a specialist....this stuff makes me totally crazy sometimes!! Diane says all these symptoms are our Met B, then she ditches me and says the fact MM doesnt work for me is due to other underlying health problems! :confused3

Cindy - agree with Lisa on the fruit thing...too much juice causes too much sugar, yadda yadda yadda...I know that you dont have an insulin issue like I do, but I am currently eating only blackberries, blueberries and strawberries for Jorge, as every other fruit drastically affects my blood sugar...so I can imagine it must have some effect on those without high sugar too....I can seriously have like a single glass of juice and my sugar will skyrocket close to 100 points! Doing the Jorge thing its all about the fiber, and he cautions against too much juice! Maybe just juice a small amount of fruit with your veggies...sounds like it is working well for you!

Robin: The new laser is doing great with the red capillaries. Not the laser I did especially for them called the V beam. I am really, really pleased with my whole face already. Tom sees a big difference. Really smooth and young looking, whoo hooo!!!! I had Fraxel this time.

Robin: Great point about the berries. Everything I read sets them aside as the preferred fruits. The darker the food, the more antioxidant and I believe antiinflammatory.

I'm still doing my modified Step 2. Not feeling any smaller, but not bigger either and working a ton, which usually is a bad sign for my weight. Happy to be maintaining until I can exercise more, I guess.

Our governor finally did something worthwhile and signed into law another homebuyers tax credit for California, so I will be slammed for months. Yippee! I want to remodel the kitchen, but not until I can pay cash.:thumbsup2

Hi guys. Not much going on here. Pretty much holding my own. Not going up or down. I haven't been following too well lately. Had a crash Sunday. Lots of carbs. But doing better now.

Lisa, glad to hear the laser thing worked. Something I would love to consider. Keep up selling those homes!! I'd love to redo our kitchen, and we actually had decided when Mike gets back to work, when we redo it, we are going to expand it by enclosing a part of the patio. I have no counter/cupboard space and it's driving me crazy!!

Robin, the book I am reading is called Adrenal Fatigue by Dr. James Wilson. It is very informative. The only test so far that will catch it in fatigue stage is a saliva test. Most doctors don't recognize the fatigue until the adrenals completely crash and you have Cushings (over active) or Addison's (under active). It requires tons of rest and supplements and dietary changes to recover from it, but you can. Stress is a major cause of it. If you can get to an endocrinologist, they could do the saliva test. Here is a link for the book:

Enjoy your extra time after you've worked overtime all those months!

I think I'm starting to understand this sugar thing!! I don't think I've ever really paid attention to that! I get it now. OMG Robin - I bought Jorge's book!!! We tried the macaroni and cheese and it was to die for!!! EVERY SINGLE KID IN MY HOUSE LOVES IT!!! That in itself is amazing since I've been trying to get them to eat wheat pasta for about a year! I'm reading and exploring all avenues and boy I am learning a lot over this last year! I love you ladies!!

Hello everyone. Good to read you all. I have had adrenal exhaustion also Kathy. My stress level is high enough again that I'm heading for another crash if I don't settle down. It really is something that takes a long time to work on. My vasculitis has finally left. I believe it may have been caused by a medication that has now been replaced. I'm going to slowly start taking my fatigue supplements again, making sure that I don't have a reaction to any of them. That was scary, not so much because the rash looked horrid, but because it could have affected my kidneys or other internal organs. So I'm going to be very careful. I'm really glad your finding all of this out Kathy so that you can take the right actions. It's so frustrating, and you mentioned this too Pony, when you know something is wrong and your not being heard or able to get help with it. To find answers and solutions is an awesome thing.

I am glad you made it home safely Jocelyn.

Diane, I hope your head feels a lot better tomorrow!

Lisa, it's great news that real estate is picking up a bit! Hopefully that's a sign that the economy will start to improve and people won't be struggling as much all over.

Cindy, I am here. Had appointments and way too much schoolwork. I'm barely even working my farm! :rotfl: Seriously, all my trees need harvesting and animals are being neglected in farmville. On the up side I am still trudging through this semester I'm not happy about doing in school hoping to be in nursing school shortly. I feel as if I've planted the seeds, now I have to be patient and wait for them to grow.

Well, my week off of M&M is going ok. I don't want to overeat. I'm going to be going back on as soon as I get paid. I'm not gaining weight. I really do believe my metabolism is a whole lot better than it used to be. I am looking forward to continuing to lose some more weight. I've got a changed attitude about it now. Almost a faith that it will happen and I don't have to worry about it, just keep doing the next right thing.

I am still following step two, but I'm not being fanatic about it anymore. I'm guestimating on my plate instead of carefully measuring. Like for example, a sweet potato, if it's one of those really small ones, I have one, if it's a huge one I have a half of a potato. It's probably more than half a cup but it seems to be just fine. The other thing I noticed is the more I eat of healthy meals containing a lot of vegetables, moderate protein and not skimping on normal amounts of fat, the faster I lose weight. Which seems a little contrary to what I was brought up to believe, but it's working. I love that the pants I was thrilled to be in on the holidays are too large on me now. I'm wearing them anyway, and it's very cool to have such big pants on. What I don't like is the fatigue coming back. But, that is because I've allowed myself to become so stressed out and overwhelmed of late. I need to cultivate more peace and serenity inside of myself. I have a habit of telling others to remember that everything is always ok because god is in charge, and I need to listen to that advice myself.

Well, I will talk to everyone soon. Love you guys (girls) :grouphug:

I think I am finally caught up with my projects. We seemed to have had a lot of committments as soon as we got back. It also takes me forever to get un-packed, the laundry done and things re-organized. I did it a bit faster as we had unexpected guests and had to do a couple of dinner parties.

We had a great time on our trip, but the seas were quite rough and the weather drippy. We skirted a couple of storms in the area of Fiji so the trip from Honolulu to Sydney was really bouncy It is not supposed to be like that. We also had rough weather out of Los Angeles. Fortunately it did not bother us. We played a lot of bridge. I had hoped to be able to swim and Bob likes to walk on the deck, but these things did not happen.

We are up a couple of pounds, but back to true low carb and will hope for the best. The food, as usual, was outstanding on the ship. The temptations are everywhere. We ususally leave the table before the dessert is served so we are not tempted. It doesn't always work, though!:lmao:

I see a lot of you are reading Jorge's book. It is really eye-opening when you start seeing all of the sugar - not just the carbs. I am finding the discussions in his Facebook forum interesting as well as the ones on 3FatChicks. Like all the diets out there some are doing really well and others are struggling. There is also a blog - MeandJorge and she has lost a lot of weight. It has been a learning curve for her as she keeps adapting to different things. He advocates a lot more fiber than is mentioned in the book - 25 to 30 grams. The low carb tortillas are great for that and they don't have any added sugar.

Lisa - are you getting the wet and wild weather? Appearantly there was a lot of hail at our CA place today. It is VERY windy here. It is also still unseasonably cool so I am not back to swimming yet. I keep waiting for the water to warm up.

Time to see about dinner. Most of you are probably sound asleep by now!!

Jocelyn: Yes, it's been windy and we had hail, but it didn't last long. It's rained a bit, but mostly at night so far so the week hasn't been too bad. I guess there was A LOT of snow in the Sierras.

I have been really off on my rest and routine. Not binging on the wrong foods, but feeling weird since I like to control things a bit more. Stress is a big one for me, too, Nell and Kathy. I feel fat just because I've been working really late every night and probably eating too late, too. I sure do hope I can catch a break by Thursday. I have two closings tomorrow. I think the reason it's been so hard is that every transaction has a lot of stress built in. People that need to sell are desperate, etc. so I am the one on the phone when they are crying. It's really hard! Especially when they are friends. At least I can feel good about the outcome when we are finally successful. I'm grateful to have work, don't get me wrong, not complaining, but I do feel fat today!

I've been in a carb fog for almost a month. I restarted MM around the 5th and didn't last a week  I started feeling so bad that I re-started low carb on Monday. Not MM. I'm back doing Atkins (with less fat) for awhile.
Part of my problem is that I'm only working part time now and I get so bored! Before I know it my mind is thinking about what's to eat :guilty: I'm trying to fill my time with water aerobics and a little gardening but at night I'm really tempted to read/eat or watch TV/eat. Old habits. I'm sad that MM hasn't worked for so many but it looks like everyone is adapting and changing and NOT giving up :yay:
We have our house on the market but things are slow. Average time on market is 5 months and we've only been 6 weeks. We're hoping to get it sold and move back to North Carolina next year. Much cheaper cost of living and my daughter is there so I'm excited.
I'll keep checking in because I do think I need you all to help me stay accountable. I've missed you!

Hi guys. Glad to see you all here today. A beautiful day here. Sunny, and about 65*. By Sunday it's to be almost 80*!! I can't wait.

Nell, I can totally understand what you're saying about being tired. I am feeling a tad bit better, but it is definately a long process. There is a group on FB and I just started emailing someone who is extremely knowledgeable in this area. She has told me what is best to use supplement wise. Went to the health food store to pick some of it up. I do need to get my B vitamins though. Those are very important with AF. It's nice to know it's not "just in my head" as it feels like sometimes. There is a name to what is wrong with me!! That alone makes me happy.
If you would like any information, please let me know and I'll send you the emails she has sent me so far.

Lisa, I'm sorry you're having such a stressful time right now. Breathe in deep and let it out slowly. Close your eyes and imagine sitting on a nice sunny beach with the waves slowly lapping in and out. I know what you mean about happy you have a job but not always happy with the things that go with it.

Jocelyn, so glad you're back. I am also thinking of getting the Jorge Cruise book. But I know with Adrenal Fatigue, there is a certain diet I should be following as well. UGGGG!! I am thinking that it will be pretty close to low carb and stuff like that.
Glad you enjoyed your cruise, but sorry the weather didn't cooperate the whole time. Stills sounds like you had fun though.

Ok, going to research a bit more. I'll try to catch up later.

I guess it was mostly in my head, because my pants from winter are not tighter. It got cold today so I wore those black striped pants, Barb! I'm not fatter, thank goodness.

I have got to get some rest and get up early enough to exercise, get in charge of my own cooking and I'll be fine again.

Great to see you, Barb! I think MM did work for all of us in that most of us lost a fair amount of weight. It seems like some people are looking for adaptations that make it fit their lifestyles a bit better?? The basic principles of leaving out the white stuff and too much fat are working for us all, though, it seems. I'm glad we found each other! I hope we're still on for that Godiva ride someday!:grouphug:

I am sooo excited, I had to share this with all my sisters here.
Tomorrow morning we are going to see about a little sister for Tyson. She is a white boxer and a year old. She weighs about 60 or 70# they said! I am sooo excited. I hope all goes well. They can't afford to have a dog and are selling her. I feel bad for them, but so excited for us!!:cool1:
We are going to be there around 10, so I'll post some pictures on FB tomorrow. Now I'll be too excited to sleep!!

I am feeling pretty good today. I did all my offices this evening. I just hope I don't crash tomorrow from the 12 hour work day today.
Ok, off to take a bath. I hope it settles me down a bit so I can get to sleep!!

Hi everyone. Had meditation tonight and it was really nice. My mom is going to have heart surgery in the next day or so, and I really needed to relax and trust that everything is going to go the way it is meant to.

Kathy, I'm thinking that the supplements for adrenal fatigue are probably about the same as the ones for chronic fatigue. At least I hope so since I have a bunch of those ones left.

Well, talk to everyone tomorrow. Love you guys (girls) :grouphug:

Hi everyone. Had meditation tonight and it was really nice. My mom is going to have heart surgery in the next day or so, and I really needed to relax and trust that everything is going to go the way it is meant to.

Sending some prayers your way and her way too.

Nell: Your Mom is in my prayers. She will do great!

We celebrated the closing of two escrows yesterday with a dinner out last night. I had filet, roasted veggies and grilled asparagus instead of the potato. We find restaurants really work with us.

It took me two days to watch the Biggest Loser on tape, but did you all see that guy that lost 418 lbs. on his own at home?? We have nothing to complain about! If he can do it, we can do it. He walked for exercise. Very inspiring and he look so sweet.:cheer2:

Hi All!

Lisa, glad you are feeling good about your laser treatment. Sometimes I think we just "feel" fat, when there really isn't anything happening. Glad to know your business is picking up.

Kathy, I am glad you feel like you are getting a better handle on your fatigue/exhaustion. I will look for the pics of the dog on FB.

Nell, I am glad you have been able to stick with your meditation. I hope your mom does well with her surgery.

Robin, where are you? If you're not busy at work, you should be chatting with us.

Jocelyn, Happy belated birthday and I am glad you are back safe and sound from your cruise. I am sorry the weather didn't cooperate.

Cindy, it sound like your vegetarianism is going well. Kudos to you. I don't think I could do that.

Barb, stick with us no matter what plan you are doing.

I have started losing again, I have dropped about 2 lbs. this week, but since I had gained back 6.5, I am still at just 20.5 or 21.5 (I don't remember). I have stopped buying any nuts and/or dark chocolate. If it's not in the house I can't eat it. That seems to have helped. Not sure if it was just too many calories, or just they cause me to stall. I do need to run to the store though, there isn't much of anything to eat at my house, good or bad. I think I have hamburger in the freezer and one pound of turkey bacon. Doesn't create much variety for the family dinners. Last night I fixed swordfish for Adam and I and heated up some frozen spaghetti sauce and cooked noodles for Bob and Amelia. Bob was at a meeting and when he came home, it didn't want that. Drives me insane some days.

Well, back to work. The boss has decided that I should help one of his "friends" create a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation. Of course, I know nothing about doing this, so I just need to string him along until the boss' wife gets back from California (in 5 weeks:scared1:). She is a paralegal and much more qualified than am I.

See you soon.!

I had the most delicious nap at 4 pm today! I should feel back to normal by tomorrow. Work exhaustion is the worst - I can't even think straight when I'm like that. J-P is working hard too. I told him we'll have massages at the resort in Tucson.:cool1:

Tom's losing more weight, but it might have something to do with his 500 situps per day. He's crazy!

I've successfully sold my client's house. Now to just get him to leave! He wants to rent it, lol! Not going to work. We have to find a new one by next week. He's fun to be around, though.

I'm going to have a salad in front of the TV and shamelessly relax tongiht! Hope you all have good nights, too!

Good morning everyone!! It is a beautiful morning here so far. The sun is just starting to come up, took the dogS (ya, 2 of them LOL) out to pee and poo, and I really wouldn't have had to wear my housecoat. It is a balmy 50*! It is to get up to 82* today. Shorts again, yaaaa. Remind me this summer when it gets really hot and humid that I wanted warm weather LOL.

Lisa, yaa on the closing of the house! Sounds if if the seller has quite a sense of humor. People like that are so fun to be around!! Tell Tom congrats on the weight loss!! Diane always said exercise, exercise, exercise LOL.

Joycelyn, so good to see you here again. You were missed greatly!!

I have decided our new dog (and I say dog loosely, as she is like Tyson thinking they are human) is getting a new name. Her name was Ferrari (I could handle Porsche better) but we are renaming her Bailey. At first Alyssa and Mike said Bunny because she looks like a white bunny and it's so close to Easter. It is now decided that will be her middle name. She is such a cuddler. If I'm sitting on the floor, she will sit smack dab in the middle of my lap. A 60# doggie weight LOL. She has longer fur than Tyson and it is soooo soft. The first thing we did was bath her. She looked almost gray from the dirt. She is underweight, so I will be working on giving her a healthy home made diet for a while until her digestive tract gets healed. Her poop is massive and just not healthy. She is going to the vet this afternoon because when I asked the lady about the shots record, she told me she does them herself, being a nurse and all, but "couldn't find the records." She will be getting her first round of shots, plus rabies and kennel cough, in case we want to take them to doggie camp at PetSmart. It has become apparent that she belongs to me. She follows me everywhere, and she is already protective of the house and all of us. She saw someone outside walking, she went to the front door, and got on her hind legs to watch him walk past as she was barking like crazy. She doesn't do this all the time thankfully though.
Ok, enough rambling. I now have 2 sweet babies snoring away as I type this LOL. I'll post some better photos of her and Tyson this weekend of FB.
Have a great day everyone!!

Kathy - congrats on Bailey. She looks like a real sweetie!

We are bunnysitting for friends for spring break, does that count?

Lisa - your nap sounds heavenly. Good luck finding him a house!

Have a great day!
