Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

Seabreeze,

Thanks for the waffle recipe :woohoo:I am so thinking I am going to make them this weekend. Thanks for the hug! I'm sure my Aunt lived a good life, it's just so hard to say goodbye. :sad2:

Laura: I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your dear aunt. It's always hard to say goodbye. She lives on in you.:littleangel:

Just a quick note hi. Getting ready to head to the Y for the last open swim from 6-8.

Lisa and Jocelyn, what a beautiful picture!! Lisa, you wanted to update your avatar, and I personally think that would be perfect.

I have finally broke my own barrier I believe. I am down to 167 as of this morning. I have been between 171-175 for the last month or so. Just wouldn't budge past that 171. I think not eating much dairy (forgot butter is dairy, and still having a small cup of coffee with just a bit 1/2 and 1/2 in it at work), and I have increased my water intake between 48 ounces and 70 ounces of water a day. I have a tumbler that holds 24 oz. and I aim for at least 3 of them a day. I am not even adding anything to it. Just lots of ice.
Went to BonTon (a dept store here) and got 2 Columbia sweaters (really soft and pretty) for $10 each. The normal price is $75!! One is a black and gray swirl and one is the lightest aqua color. There is still a red one at the store I am debating on buying. They were 70% off sale price of I think it was 34.99 or something. I love Columbia clothes. I am going to wear the aqua one to the baby shower on Sunday. I'll get a picture and post it. They are mediums, and just a bit big, but the small was a bit too small LOL. The "girls" need to shrink in my opinion. And I need to find a bra that actually is comfy and fits and holds me up without spending a small fortune.
Ok, need to get ready to head out to the Y. I am so glad we joined it. And it's just 5 minutes up the road. I didn't join the aqua aerobics. They want $35/month to join it. That's on top of the monthly membership just to the Y. I can do my own aerobics in the water I think. I swim the length a few times, go into the deep end and tread water for a while, and hold onto the edge and pull my legs up, down, side to side, and "jog". Ok, got to go and quit rambling LOL.
I'll check in later.

I am all tucked in at the Comfort Inn!
We had over two feet of snow. Our power went out last night at 8pm. I went to bed, hoping power would be on overnight. It wasn't. My son, Owen, started shoveling at 10 and wasn't done for hours. When I tried to back my car out it got stuck and I had to call AAA. They didn't come until 6:20 pm. The snow on each side of my car reached the top (granted I have a small car, but still..) Meanwhile, I was calling every hotel in the area and they were all booked. Finally I tried this place which is across the Hudson from me and they had just had a cancellation from someone whose power came back on. Thank God! Soon as I got winched out my driveway I just kept going. When I got to this exit it was backed up onto the highway. All tractor trailers were blocking the way, I went around them in the left lane and made a right turn around them. I was a nervous wreck because it was dark and still snowing. By the time I got here I was going to pass out if they gave my room away - but luckily they didn't! I have the room for tonight and tomorrow. On the radio they say the power outages are the worst in Central Hudson's 100 year history! My landlord called and said he and his wife are going to discuss what break they are going to give tenants because of this. He's nice.
I'm starving! I can't wait for breakfast tomorrow. I had some pretzels earlier, but that's it for the day. Everything I had needed cooking and I have an electric stove so I couldn't do anything. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Prayers for Mike and his job!! Prayers for Laura and family - so sorry for your loss.

Lisa and Jocelyn : You're both so beautiful! I'm glad you had such a terrific time together.

Robin - Happy you had a good time!

Time for bed for me. I'm wiped out. Enjoy the rest of your evening!

OK, HI!! I have 2 minutes to breathe...work is nuts...

Diane - OMG, sounds like you have the nightmare I had a few weeks ago...praying you get power back soon!

Lisa and Jocelyn - great picture and so fantastic you guys got to meet! Im jealous! LOL, cant wait to get us ALL together!

Kathy - awesome job on the losses...the sweaters sound beautiful!

Laura - sorry about your aunt...92 years...wow! You have missed a bunch of stuff, but so have I , so looks like we both have very little idea whats going on! LOL, hope I get to read some back posts tomorrow and get myself back intouch!

no time to read back posts, so hope to have at least a little time tomorrow to read...Im at work from 8am to 11pm! OMG, I must be crazy...oh wait, we already know that I AM CRAZY!

Hi Bev, Barb, Cindy, Kate, and all you other missing mm's...oops, I guess I am one of the missing these days! Love you All!

Ken's fall on the rig left him passed out on the floor where it was almost an hour before someone found him...dont know more details, but he is better now and out of hospital, but not able to return to the rig yet, so who the heck knows what that means...maybe it means it will be another darn month before he can get back...geez Going out with Jim again next week, cant hurt and he makes me laugh!

Diane: I'm sending you a big warm hug and I wish I could make you a hot meal! What a horrible ordeal and thank goodness you are safe, at least. You are a brave soul.

Robin: Maybe you and Ken should sort of uncommit and agree to be free to date other people until you are more certain of your feelings. You don't need to feel any pressure to make a decision. JMHO.

I wish we could plan a big MM get together before too long. It would be so much fun.

Have a great weekend!

Well, still snowing :(

Laura, I am sorry about your aunt. My grandma was 98 when she passed away, and oh, the memories she would share. The most memorable to me is when she used to talk about riding in the horse and buggys, no electricity, and not having toilet paper. It always made me realize just how much our lives have improved over the years.

Bev, Mike told me yesterday that the 500 applicants aren't for just "so many" jobs per say. The jobs are union jobs, and that is for more or less the western part of PA. All the different counties. Our county may have 20 jobs available with maybe 15 applicants. There are people coming for the test way from Ohio. They will be testing for about 2 weeks with 50 people testing each in morning and afternoon. Still accepting prayers though. He didn't know how many jobs are available for our county or how many people applied for our county.

Robin, I have to agree with Lisa. If your having doubts about Ken, legit or not, you may need to rethink the relationship. I am glad he's ok though. I just can't believe no one notified you. And not to add fuel to the fire, but why didn't he have someone call you or something while he was in the hospital? I know the phone systems and computer systems are crazy weird, but still, you'd think he'd try to contact you one way or another. Even a telegram or something....

Diane, sorry you got all this snow and no power. I'm glad you managed to get a hotel room and arrive there ok. We usually stay at Comfort Inns when we go anywhere. They are a great hotel chain with nice clean rooms. Hoping you get your power back soon. That is so kind of your land lord to do that for you. We got about 7" of snow yesterday/last night and another 5-7" to come this afternoon. They are saying more snow on Tues into Wed. But not major accumulations. At this point, does it really matter? LOL

Ok, going to get some breakfast and then off to work for an hour or so. Then maybe to the Y for a bit too. Later everyone :grouphug:

It's pouring this am. So glad Jocelyn and I decided to met on the only day this week that turned out to be gorgeous! I should clean house, but that sounds boring.

I hope I didn't sound like I have an opinion about you and Ken, Robin. I was just wanting to support you that it's alright in a friendly kind of way. Sometimes, I wish we could all sit down with a glass of wine and have a real conversation. Although, it would probably get really silly really quickly, lol!

I should get my meals organized this week because it's going to be as crazy as the last. That's when I would fall apart before MM - lack of planning.

Guess I'll start with a walk on the treadmill and see what I can come up with for the rest of the wet weekend.

Love to all!

Where is everybody? Off having fun, I guess!

I'm cleaning and sqeezing a box of lemons a guy from work gave Tom. To thank him, Tom wants me to bake him my famous lemon bars. I'm typing this down so you all can witness me swearing I won't eat any! Yikes. They are soooo good, as I remember, lol! We freeze the lemon juice in ice cubes to cook with throughout the year. I also zest a bunch of them and freeze the zest so I can make my salmon topping quickly. These people don't think they need their lemons! Two people have given us what amounts to hundreds of lemons. Organic, too! They cost $1 a piece in the store!:scared1:

Hey, Beverly! Are you still exercising? I had to stop because of the injuries and haven't lost any more this month, but haven't gained either, so that's not too bad, I guess. I'm sure the exercise makes a big difference. Looking forward to hearing what your doctor has to say.
I haven't been exercising due to the fall I took two weeks ago. I think I will get out my Leslie Sansone DVDs and "Walk Away the Pounds!". At least I can do it when I have time, not on someone else's schedule.
Hello MM Warriors!! How are you all doing??? I hope you are all drinking your water and moving your bodies!! I miss you all and I am in need of a great big group hug :grouphug:

I am feeling a bit under the weather  (good thing it's not snowing or I would be buried alive) :rotfl: and my favorite Aunt :littleangel: passed away tuesday at the young age of 92.
Hey Laura good to see you. Sorry to hear about your aunt. I lost my great grandma at 89, and it was amazing to hear her stories also.
Good Morning,

I just saw this recipe on another site I belong to and wanted to share it with you. I have posted it in the recipe section, too. I'll try it when we get back home.

Those sound yummy. I'll have to pick up some protein powder.

Here is a picture of me and Jocelyn taken yesterday at the winery by some kind strangers.:)The guy behind us is a gold miner.
You two look so cute!

Yea on the breakthrough, and the new sweaters! I could use a good bra fitting also!

I'm not missing, you are. I thought I might find you on FB, but you're not there.
You need to do what you need to do about the men in your life.

Wow - what a deal for the lemons. I need to go do some laundry and Adam needs my help. I'll see you all later.

Home sweet home! My power came back on and I'm back home. I called my house from the hotel and my machine answered!! I was never so happy to hear an answering machine! :)

I see they're expecting a tsunami in Hawaii from the Chile earthquake. They're showing a live shot on MSNBC and there are people on surfboards in the water. Are they nuts?! I know it's not going to be a mega wave, but still, it could carry them into the land at great speed.

Robin - Are you going to tell Ken about Jim? Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Diane: You were so clever to call your answering machine! I don't know that I would have thought of that. So glad you are home safe and sound.

Beverly: Walking is such great exercise, I agree. Just have to commit to the time to do it.

Worried about Hawaii! You all know Jocelyn isn't home as they are traveling this week, but I hope their home isn't damaged. I think they live on an upper floor in their condos. Praying for all the people in Hawaii.

Just checking in with you all. I was on the stationary bike and saw the tsunami warnings on tv. I am so glad Jocelyn and her hubby aren't there. I will be praying for everyone. Also for all of you in CA as well. Such a tragedy in Chile' to!

Diane, happy to hear you made it back home. I guess a small vacation? LOL

Bev, glad to hear you're going to do the Walk Off the Pounds video. I have a couple and love them. Leslie was born and raised down by Pittsburgh!! She is so down to earth.

Michael is wanting to watch some kind of movie, and it doesn't really sound interesting so not sure what I'll do. Maybe read a book.

I'll try to catch up later.

Working 15 hours...busy again! OMG!

You are all right about the Ken thing...I need to just chill and let things take their course..Thanks for looking out for me!

Thank GOD Jocelyn isnt at home...the tsunami looks like it might cause some damage...praying their home is ok

Bev - lol, I know I am the missing one! Hope you are ok, havent caught up so didnt know about your fall?:scared1:

Diane - so glad you are back home!

Lisa - so glad you had a good day with Jocelyn, not a yuk weather day!

Kathy - they have no cell service in China that connects to the bands used in the US, but I agree that you would have thought SOMEONE would have let me know! I guess Im feeling like Im not all that important after all...not going to let it get me down though! Hope all is well with you!

Back to the grindstone...5 hours left to go!

Kathy: I forgot to congratulate you on the smaller sweaters! :cool1::cool1::cool1:You deserve a good bra! I went to the outlet store. I'm going to treat myself to a trip to Nordstrom for bras when I reach my goal, but until then it's outlet store - they are still good quality.

All clear in Hawaii! :beach:

Jocelyn, I am so grateful that Hawaii was spared with the tsunami. I was thinking and praying about your home since I found out about it yesterday. Also, thanks for the waffle recipe. Sounds really good!! I'll have to get my waffle iron out and give it a try. We do Belgium waffles once in a while for supper. With fresh strawberries and whipped cream. YUMMY!!!

Not much going on here so far. Getting ready to go to work, then head to Walmart then the shower. It is from 1-3. I am not much for showers, but I absolutely love Tab, she is like a niece to me, so I think I can handle it for a few hours LOL. It's always fun when "the gang" gets together. I need to download a picture of the gang so you guys can see how many of us there is. It's pretty close to 30 or so. If these kids keep having kids, it'll be much more than that soon LOL.

Robin, so good to see you. I keep checking in on FB to see how things are going with you, even if I don't post. Maybe I am just a stalker!!:scared1:

Nell, I love your new avatar on FB. You look so happy and content in that photo. It is so amazing how we can see your self image change as your confidence grows. Your a beautiful person inside and out. Wish I had been at the beach with you!! Mike and I have always wanted to go the Key West. That is one of our dreams when we "older" and all the kids are on their own. He wants to go as far south as he can without going out of the country. One of his dreams that I kind of took over LOL.

I'll catch up later with you all later. Have a great day!!

It's going to be a beautiful sunny day today! Makes you want to do a million things before it rains again, lol!

There was a special news piece on this am about the dangers in plastic containers, particularly baby bottles. They did a study in England and people with BPA in their bodies had twice the incidences of heart disease. The doctor specificially said not to heat in plastic and to throw out all scratched or old containers. It's especially important to tell mothers that might be heating baby bottles.:scared1: Or for that matter, putting warm liquid into plastic containers. He mentioned baby bottle liners too. Of course, Tom had to pop up with what's the matter with feeding the baby from flesh?

Trying to come up with some new meals this week. Bored with the old standbys. What's everybody cooking today??

Lisa - I was just doing the same thing. I'm making my shopping list for this afternoon when I go to Mrs. Green's Market. So far I have decided to make a chicken pot pie with a cauliflower crust from http://freetheanimal.com/2009/11/primal-chicken-pot-pie-with-cauliflower-crust.html
and Italian Pork Chops from http://recipes.prevention.com/Recipe/italian-pork-chops.aspx
Tonight it's just steak, green beans and mashed butternut squash. I've discovered Chinese 5 spice and love to add just a touch to the squash. It gives a really nice flavor.

The weather is a lot better today. Things are starting to thaw out slightly. We're still expecting snow showers every day, but nothing big.

Where is everybody? Off having fun, I guess!

I'm cleaning and sqeezing a box of lemons a guy from work gave Tom. To thank him, Tom wants me to bake him my famous lemon bars. Hmmmmmmm. I was just wondering what to do with all of the lemons from our lemon tree.... Now I know - I am going to free the juice in ice cubes! I have don't have hundreds but I sure hate to waste them. Thanks for the tip, Lisa!
