Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

Lisa has been nagging me to get back on the wagon and it worked LOL. I've been back to old habits of eating carbs for comfort. Put on my blinders and ate whatever I wanted for the past month +. Up several pounds and my pants are tighter. Got back to Step1 yesterday and so far so good. It feels good emotionally to be back trying to be in control.
I've been laid off from work and we put our house on the market. Real estate isn't great here but things have picked up a little so we're keeping our fingers crossed. We've decided that I'll hang in there until next year when I turn 62 and I'll take early Social Security. Early plans are to move back to North Carolina where my daughter is. Cost of living is much less back there and the weather is better. My only requirement will be that there's a pool nearby :lovestruc.
I'm doing Step1 by the book for now but may add some carb cycling at some point. I'll fill you all in on that idea when the time comes.

Love you all,

Barb

Barb - Glad to see you back. What exactly is carb cycling?

Hi Bev. Carb cycling is changing up the amount of carbs you eat on alternate days. It's supposed to help keep your weight loss going at a steady pace because your body doesn't get used to a given nutritional level and cause a stall. It ranges from very low carb (below 20) to moderate carb (probably like step2). I'm going to stick with Step1 for a month then try the cycling for step2. It can be very similar to step2 because the timing can be the same. :)

Yeah, Barb! You made it!!! I'm so excited to see you. I really missed your help, support and friendship. You'll be back to the baggie pants club in no time.

Kathy: Yippee on the new swimsuit! :cool1:That has to be the best feeling. I can't believe I have to get in one next month instead of shooting for summer, LOL! That's what I get for planning an early vacation. Maybe I'll go night swimming, lol!

Diane: I'll pray for your brother's good outcome and for your job. I think you should call also. What do you think about telling them you can't imagine another job suiting you as well and you wanted to check in before you entertain other options?

Bev: Diane's email is dietquestions@aol.com
Sorry to hear your numbers are up. Let's hope she's a big help.

I'm off to Physical Therapy. Making very slow progress. Walked again this am. I've decided that I have to walk before I'm allowed to get on the computer. I can get so distracted!:surfweb:

Jocelyn and I talked briefly about this at lunch when we met. She's a believer that it helps to change things up. Does the body get used to a number if you vary the foods from which that number is derived? Crackers one day, fruit the next, etc?

Lisa - thanks for the e-mail. I am going to send her my info right now.

I like your idea of having to "work" before you can get on the computer. Maybe that's something I need to do.

I don't think so. I've been reading from a new book that promotes cycling and I'm not totally up on it yet. If you all are interested in changing up step1 or step2 a bit I'd be happy to summarize the cycling idea when I finish the book. The author is very qualified and has seen good results in her practice. My husband thinks he's so funny. The book is called "Crack The Fat Loss Code". He says it should be "Crack: The Fat Loss Code" Does crack help you lose weight? Not willing to try it LOL.

Thanks for dragging me back

Barb: I think crack helps you lose weight, teeth and more, LOL! Your husband is witty. It's great to have you back. If I get lost, I hope you'll come for me, too.

Hi Everyone! Geez I really miss posting more and talking to you...havent even had a second to myself to try to log onto disboards from Google chrome at home, but hope to get a shot at it on Sunday...

Kate - such GREAT news about Kristi! God truly does provide the miracles we pray for...

Bev - I went to get you that ticket and it started snowing again...OMG, so I decided to wait a while and make sure it is all gone, LOL, luckily it didnt amount to anything and this morning is actually quite nice out!

Diane - OMG dinosaur kale? What in the world is that? LOL, probably something Lisa will want me to try! Love you Lisa!!!

Kathy - wow! so cool about the swimsuit! Might be another year before anyone sees THIS Pony in a swimsuit!

Lisa - so glad you are slowly getting better and able to exercise...I know I just feel lousy now when I cant get to the gym...cant wait to start my new schedule so I can start getting there at 9:30...and then get home at a more normal hour...maybe I wont be so darn tired all the time!

Barb - so so GLAD you are back! Isnt it amazing how a couple days off MM and we just jump right back on the Carb Wagon? OMG, it is so hard sometimes....that why I decided the once a week small cheat was all I can handle...luckily if I can have that one piece of pizza, or that extra piece of bread, it seems to keep me happy and doesnt send me down that trail again...I dont ever want to go back there, even though I do occasionally crave those foods! Im actually considering taking an entire week and just doing Shakes every 5 hours...see if it might help me jump start some losses again...not sure if I can do it, but it sounded like a good idea!

Bev - are you doing step 2 now? sorry I get confused where everyone is...my BS numbers go up after just a couple days on step 2 carbs...very frustrating!
I go to the doc myself in April and she is going to test my cortisol level for the first time... Diane feels this is repsonsible for my belly fat issue...will be interesting to see

Geez Lisa, I was hoping to go into Witness Protection so I could hide from the upcoming Overtime Schedule! :rotfl:

The coolest thing just happened! I am listing a ranch property on Friday and have been stressing on making sure I pick the right price because it's so subjective. I had a price in mind of $499,000 and have looked at sold comps in so many different ways. I said to Tom at dinner "I wish God would put the number in my head while I'm sleeping." He said, "God gave you the brains to figure it out." Armed with my maps and all kinds of data I went straight back into my office to come up with the best examples I could possibly find. Taking all of that into consideration, the number comes to $501,000. I told Tom and he said, "God gave you the brains to figure it out." $499,000 it is! WOW!!!:woohoo:

Hi guys!
OMG, there is sunshine outside! No snow either!!! LOL. I will probably be MIA this weekend. It is to be close to 50*, so I want to spend as much time outside as possible.
Still plugging away. Having a hard time lately with the no milk, no sugar, no fruit. Driving me friggin crazy!! I am still drinking a cup of coffee a day, and using non dairy creamer in it with 1 carb per teaspoon. Been trying to up my water intake. I have my water bottle that holds 24 oz. My goal is to drink 4 of them a day. I am up to between 2-3 a day.
I ran out of my multi-probiotic yesterday, so went to the health food store to get more. Their distributor is out of stock!! I am going to have to research where I can get more. It is made by Douglas Labs. It has about 5 different probiotics in it.

Robin, good to see you. Hope you can log on over the weekend. I am wanting to reformat with Windows 7, but after I downgraded to XP and lost drivers, I'm afraid to LOL. At least I have my restore cd's now if that happens. I may contact ACER before I do it to be sure I won't lose anything. I don't think I'll ever buy another Acer. Too much hassle with them. I'm thinking Mac if I can get it cheap enough.

Lisa, good luck on the ranch. Hope it sells quickly. And glad to hear you're back on the treadmill. It does feel better when you get back on track. For me, it's still the stationary bike, steam room and swimming. My knee still hurts if I overdo it.

Kate, can't remember if I posted it or not, but so glad your niece is doing so much better. That is a long time to be in a hospital!! I will continue to pray for her. She sounds like a strong, determined woman!!

Off to take Carrie to school. I'll try to catch up later. I am going to work this evening for a few hours. Did the other office last night, so only have 1 to do tonight.
TTFN!!

Here is my report on "progress, not perfection":

1. About two weeks ago my mom looked at me and said, "I don't know what you are doing different, but keep doing it."

2. A client was walking behind me the other day and said "wow, you look skinny."

3. I woman at my business networking group said to me yesterday, "I have been meaning to tell you that I can tell how much weight you have lost."

My lessons from all of this:

1. You don't have to do this perfectly.

2. I now truly believe that the scale isn't the be all, end all.

The fact of the matter is that I have been far from perfect in following MM. But, what I have been good about is eating every five hours, eating low carb during the day, and keeping my "cheats" small and to limited to one meal every few days (usually dinner). The scale hasn't changed that much. Probably 7 or 8 pounds since September. But I am much more comfortable in my clothes.

I am working on changing my mind-set that foods are either "good" or "bad." Food is food and food is meant to nourish me (not comfort me). The problem with the good/bad thinking is that when I eat something "bad" it so completely effects how I feel about myself that day. The "loser" cloud hangs over my head, big, dark and cloudy, following me around all day long. The eating something "bad" doesn't even have to be something like a cookie. It can just be eating one or two carbs more than we are allowed per meal.

The support of you ladies has been huge!

Robin - I'll patiently wait for the ticket! My mantra is "No more snow!"
Yes, I am on Step 2 and have been since late September, early October. I have toyed with the idea of going back to Step 1, but have never done it. I have never had blood sugar issues (other than having to take the 3 hour glucose tests when pregnant because I failed the 1 hour), other tha the light-headed, shaky stuff that Diane describes. My fasting was 114 with an A1C of 5.9. I shot her an e-mail on Tuesday, but still haven't heard back. I guess she is really busy right now.

Glad you have some sun. It sounds like a good weekend for you. We are in the 40's now, and I am looking forward to the 50's. I am much more of a Spring/Fall girl. I really don't like the cold of winter.

Kate - You go girl! It's great to feel that kind of validation!

Kate: I'm so glad others are being complimentary to you! Especially your mother. Mine compliments the things on me more than me, if you know what I mean. You deserve it! What a great point you made about food not being good or bad! All things in moderation is a good philosophy, I think. Once we reach our goals as long as we are reasonable we can probably add back in most things we enjoy. By then we will have hopefully learned how not to use food as a comfort or drug of choice, lol!

Bev: So right about God being good all the time. It's me that's not always good - I beat myself up a lot. Tom said, "Remember God has a lot to do and he gave you the brains to figure this out". ;) We've always said God helps those who help themselves as a way of expressing you should get up and use what God gave you to show him you are worthy and willing to do your part. I'm glad he reminded me when I needed to hear it, lol!

Kathy: No milk, sugar and fruit is what all of us either were on or are on in Step 1, so you are never alone! Once you "do your time", you can have fruit again in moderation and there are great substitutes for milk. Your health guy might not be nuts about the creamer for you since it's so artificial. If you have candida you don't want to eat anything that's not fresh because mold can grow in foods that have been sitting around - even spices.:scared1:

I love what Michael Pollan says and it's a lot like what Kate was saying, "Eat food. Mostly plants. Not too much." Simple words that pack a big punch when you break them down. Food = things your greatgrandmother would recognize.:)

A busy, happy work day is underway. I came by the house for lunch and to say Hi to you all. Working late on a couple of deals. Have a wonderful day!

Kate: I'm glad you said that about the scale. I really needed to hear it today. The number hasn't budged for me since before the holidays and I was depressed about it. Pants were a bit looser today and I wore a size 12 skirt from my former wardrobe and bought a size 12 skirt at Ross in between appts. today. I'm not saying I'm a size 12, because I'm sure not in pants, but I'm getting closer! I LOVE ROSS!!!!! Got cute things for Arizona at a steal. Tops like $7.99 - gorgeous!

Where is everyone????
