Hi, Robin! It was good to see you. I hope everyone else is safe and gearing up for a nice weekend. Tom's off tomorrow so maybe we will actually get out of here.

Kathy: Hope you are feeling better tonight!

Tom and I watched the Oprah about Food, Inc. again tonight (his first time). It's renewing my resolve to eat more fresh food. I've crossed over into some processed food with this WOE and I'm bound and determined to find healthier options. No more Atkins shakes, bars, processed cheese or packaged nuts. We're going to eat more greens, peppers, beans and less meat. That's the plan so far. We'll work on our shopping list this weekend. :cheer2:

Hey! I just woke up and made dinner. I was exhausted after not sleeping last night. So, I was sleeping all evening when I usually talk to you guys.

We got that new place officially today. We can begin to move in the first week of February. I know that my current landlord is going to be angry and make trouble for us. I also know that whatever he sends our way can be handled and dispatched without too much trouble with god's help.

I really liked my dinner tonight. I made some chicken breast in a pan with mixed seasonings and when the pan got too hot splashed it with wine vinegar so it browned the chicken. I know there is an official chef's term for that, but I don't know what it is. Then I made a salad with spring greens, sprouts, tomatoes and cheese. We had bacon ranch dressing with it. Yummy. For the carb dam I had found some fresh strawberries on sale. So everything was extra yummy.

One thing I like about this new rental is that there is built in concrete garden beds. The one in back of the house will be an awesome starter vegetable bed. I'm thinking of many salad greens. I suppose I could make it a salad garden. Put tomatoes in the center, a cucumber plant or two in the corners, and cover the rest with mixed greens and lettuces. Too bad I can't plant a salad dressing tree, huh? :rotfl:

In the front there is a great big planter (maybe 12 feet by four feet) in full Florida sun. I have to do some research to see if there is a cascading flower with profuse blooming that will work there. I'd love petunias, but they would croak with the heat. Maybe there is something that works along those lines. I'm thinking some type of phlox, but I don't think that can take sun or heat well either. Oh well, I'll figure it out. The bed is tall, so I don't want to plant tall flowers in it.

Hi,

I can't believe I got several pages behind in my reading.

Kathy - hope you are feeling better today.

I cooked all day as we are having a large group in for dinner tomorrow and have to be out all day tomorrow before they arrive!! Not great planning, but have everything done so will be OK.

I just put the glaze on the rum cake - 1 stick of butter, a cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of rum. Definitely not low carb :rotfl2:- but everyone loves it. I do have a small bite, but that satisfies me for quite a while!!!! The rest of the dinner is chicken in wine sauce, wild rice and spinach salad - not too bad.:thumbsup2

Barb - nice to see you. Sometimes things happen for a reason and getting some ME time for you might be just what you need.

Is anyone else finding it difficult to type in the reply box. The little line flickers like mad as I am typing and is really annoying. I ususally use Word, but not tonight. It is quite slow in responding, too.

Will probably not be on tomorrow - have a great MM day though and "see" you on the weekend.

 and :grouphug:

Good morning everyone. A a bitter cold one here. It is a full 5* out. Didn't catch the wind chill, but I know it's below 0.

Robin, sorry your schedule got messed up a bit, but hoping you get Saturday off even if it is snow. Hey, you get snow days just like school LOL. Not sure if we are to get any snow coming this way. I'll have to watch the weather.

Lisa, thanks for the tips. I began taking dayquil/nyquil liquicaps yesterday. They helped some. My sinuses are now plugged up, so getting the vaporizer out today. I usually use Vaporub in it, but I am thinking of putting my peppermint oil in it instead. Easier clean up and not as greasy.

Nell, I am so glad you got the other place. I say to heck with this landlord. There are vining geraniums that may do well. I know they love the heat and sun. I always put them in my hanging baskets out front in summer. They are pretty hardy as I tend to forget to water them LOL. Your chicken sounds great!! I bet it is really tender also with the vinegar. It is a tenderizer.

Jocelyn, sounds as though you will have a busy day today! I know you'll enjoy yourself. They cake sounds awesome too!!

I'll try to catch up with you all later, I hope. Still taking it pretty easy. I did go off plan sort of yesterday. I had 3 oranges and a banana. The oranges were sooo good and juicy. They came from California and are to die for. I figured it was better to cheat with fruit than nachos LOL. And I don't think the extra C will hurt at this point either.
:grouphug: to you all.

Nell: I'm so excited for you and Marti and your new place! I could hear the excitement in your voice for your gardening plans. You'll have to take some pics for us when you get it going. I hope the current landlord isn't too difficult to deal with. Did you give him the required amount of notice? There are agencies to enforce your rights as renters, so if he is a pill, there are places to go for help. You've been wonderful to him, so hopefully he has some good in his spirit??

Kathy: I hope you feel much better today. Do you have some vit C supplement? My sister always had the chewables and Olivia would say, "I need some Bite C." Or if she was really sick she'd say, "I need herbs." Gotta love it.

Robin: Enjoy the new schedule!

Jocelyn: I'd love to have the chicken recipe! Have fun with your friends!

I'm back. Had a nice 2 hour nap LOL. I slept so well!! Mike said I was snoring up a storm. I usually do when I'm sick. But he does all the time :headache:
Feeling a bit better now. Still head congestion, but going to try to use the neti pot. My sinuses are pretty blocked, so I'm going to steam my face first.
Lisa, I forgot to grab some Vit. C at Walmart yesterday. We almost always have some on hand, but I guess someone took it all. I'll have to send Mike out to grab some. That is so cute what Olivia used to say. Kids can say things that are just so funny!!
I had some broccoli cheese soup for lunch. It was canned, so hope I didn't do too much harm. It tasted soooo good! Maybe everything just tastes good to me right now LOL.
Off to finish my book. My mom lent me some books about 6 months ago and I'm just now getting around to reading them. 2 of them are by Beverly Lewis and one was on miracles and such. Very good reading.

Later everyone.

Kathy: Glad you are getting in some "me" time, even if it had to go along with being sick.;) There is something in chicken soup that breaks up congestion so see if Mike can pick up some chicken broth when he goes out, too. That Swanson's in a box that's no fat has an amazing rich taste. You will swear you are sipping on chicken noodle soup, but without the noodles! Plus, you can get some steam up your nose at the same time. I'm with you, there's nothing like soup when you are sick. I took a lc tortilla and made a quesadilla so I could have MM version of soup and grilled cheese. It really satisfied. Feel better and sleep a lot!

Hi Lisa. Where is everyone today?
I am going to send Mike out to the store soon. I will tell him about the chicken broth. I ate some scrambled eggs. I never tire of eggs LOL. Taking it easy for sure today.
How is your knee and ankle doing? I hope better. Have you gotten the hot tub fixed yet? Maybe I'll stop over and hop in for a bit. That would loosen up the nose LOL.
Got the book finished, so now reading the last one. The Beverly Lewis ones are a series. I'm just now reading the second one out of I believe 4 of them. She grew up in Lancaster County PA, Amish country here. She now lives in CO, but writes about Amish. Pretty interesting books.
Ok, catch up in a bit.

I see y'all are quiet again today...whats up with everyone? 10pm and i am home already...whew, another long day, but nice to be home before midnite! No gym tonite, too darn exhausted to even think about it, my cortisol must be going through the roof! LOL

No snow yet, but they are calling for it to start after midnite, so heres hoping its just enough for them to cancel work...I have to get up at 6:30 and call our company hotline to see what the verdict is...if we are open, I have to get there for 8am...UGH

Nell - so happy for you and Marti! thats just wonderful news, and Im sure you will have an amazing garden this summer!

Lisa and Kathy - hope your appendages are feeling better and Kathy, hope you took Lisa's advice and will get some chicken broth in you soon...sure should make you feel better and loosen up some of your congestion. Good thing you didnt have to go out too much in that cold! OMG, at least we are still in the 30's...Tyson probably did the 2 second outside run!

Jocelyn - thanks for the breadmaker info, Im looking forward to finding something I can make in it...hopefully chilling in the house all weekend will leave me with some research time.

scarmbled eggs with broccoli and cheese for me tonite and now this very tired Pony is hitting the hay! Nite all!

:wave:Good morning everyone!

We're still locked in this deep freeze, but I do see the sun peeking out some this morning! :goodvibes

Robin, I thought about you all day yesterday, two reasons. First, because of the storm heading your way and secondly, because I'm really into researching this tummy fat thing. My parents are in southern KY for the month and I had to call and make sure they'd prepared for the storm. Funny how I worry about them as much as I do my kids.:confused3 lol. I'm wondering now if you managed to get your two days off in a row!? My research keeps coming up with two things repeatedly, interval training and poly and mono saturated fats. More specifically, a serving of of at least one at every meal. ...might I suggest half an avocado daily? I went yesterday and bought a few, along with black and green olives, and cold pressed flaxseed oil...oh yeah, and some more green tea!;) Step One, here I come again! :goodvibes Please keep us posted on your weather situation!

Kathy, I sure hope you're feeling some better today! I have several books lined up just waiting for me to get started reading, but my general frustration level won't allow me to settle down and get interested in any of them.

Nell, congrats on your new place! :dancer: You sound so excited about it, I hope all goes well with your current landlord. We're landlords and have had so many renters just skip out during the night. We always let our renters out of their leases. We figure if they don't want to live there, then move on. There's always someone willing to move right in. We'd much rather do that than to have them leave owing money or trashing the place because we won't let them out of it. So happy for you!:goodvibes

Today is my eldest daughter's birthday. She turns 29! So hard to believe how time flies! She's requested pizza and salads from our favorite pizza house and game night with us and all her siblings. House full tonight, should be fun! Now if I can only stay away from the cake she's made for herself!

You all have a great weekend!

I haven't posted in the past few days because I really don't have anything new to talk about. My knee still hurts, my husband's ADD is still driving me CRAZY, my kids (and grandkids) are all fine, I'm still struggling with staying completely on step1, the lady I work for is crabby as ever, and......... my life is filled with so many wonderful blessings that I can't begin to count them!
I have spent quite a bit of time this past week trying to find good puppet patterns and material to make them. At church, we are planning to have 2 humanitarian aid workdays a month and this Thurs. we are going to make puppets. They will be part of an orphanage packet including wooden toys, books and games. Everything has to be international...no words, letters, religion or military symbols. It should be fun.

Nell, I'm glad that you will be moving to someplace that feels more like home to you. We grew a wonderful, beautiful bean vine last summer called "Red Runner" that might be something you'd find interesting. I made a teepee for them to grow up on by lashing 10-12 straight willow branches together and then pushing them into the ground. The beans grew up these and were very pretty with their bright red flowers. They aren't the most flavorful beans but they taste good and look really pretty. I still have some seeds if you want to try them...they're kind of hard to find. Let me know and I'll send them to you.

Kathy, Sorry you're feeling crumby. The broth sounds like a good idea. I always seem to crave it when I'm sick. Hopefully you'll get some warmer weather( well at least above freezing) and be able to be outside some. Breathing fresh air seems to help me when I don't feel well. Take Care!

Robin, Well, here's hoping that you don't have to work today and can just laze around. Then you'd have 2 days off in a row...what would you do with yourself? Would you watch tv, :happytv: Drive to the beach and go boating: :beach::drive::boat: join a rockband and party :rockband:party: jump for joy that you could get caught up on laundry:jumping2::laundy: or just go crazy  As you can tell, I have been wanting to use these smileys for awhile and you are the lucky recipient, Robin.

Lisa, Hope you and Tom got to leave and do something on his day off. We had some beautiful days on tues, wed and thurs with lots of sunshine and warmer temps. Was it like that in No. Calif. too? The clouds came back in yesterday and it's been raining during the night here. I'm not complaining..I love the sound of rain on the roof when I'm sleeping and we really do need the rainfall. Hope you have a great weekend and that Tom doesn't get called on too many weather related problems.

Jocelyn, Sounds like you were going to party yesterday..hope it went well and that you all had a good time. The recipe I'm looking for is a low carb bread one using sprouted grains and turning out like the Julian Bread. Have you had that bread? It's so expensive to buy and I would really like to find a recipe that has close to the same amount of carbs..1 per slice. If you run across something along these lines please let me know. You are the recipe Queen after all.

Pam, Here's wishing a wonderful B-Day for your daughter. My oldest son is turning 29 this year also, in July. I'm finding it hard to reconcile the years to the feeling that it was not that long ago that he was living at home, going to H.S. and hanging out with his friends playing music in our garage. It doesn't seem like that long ago! I hope your memories are as fond and that you enjoy the game night with all the kids. It sounds like fun! You are allowed 2 cheats per week so a bite of b-day cake can be 1 of those. Or whatever.

Well, I'm off to take a shower and get dressed. Wishing you all a fabulous weekend!

Love you,
Carol
Step 1

Feast upon the Words of Christ.

It was fun to wake up to you all this morning. Although, I don't really have any new news, I thought I'd say Hi.:cool1: Tom went to work in the middle of the night and Bonnie and I slept in. We had a peak or two of sun for brief moments this week and it rained last night. It's supposed to clear for awhile today. We really need the rain and as long as that awful wind doesn't come back, I'll be content. We finally went out for dinner last night! It was wonderful to get out for awhile. I am being so careful with my eating and yet I'm stuck on the scale for weeks. I guess I'll reserve judgement until I can exercise again.

Carol: I love that you are making puppets! We always bought wooden toys and puppets. My favorite was a wooden map of the US with all the capitals and states names on it. Every night we'd turn it over on the floor and when you picked up a part if you could name the state and capital by just looking at the plain back, you could place it in the map. J-P got the highest grade in 3rd grade on capitals that year! It was a really fun way to learn. I kept that puzzle on our coffee table for years. It's a lot of fun for guests too.

Pam: I've heard of some people that take a spoonful of olive oil before meals. They claim amazing digestion.

Robin: I hope you are home and cuddled up with Harley and a good book.

Kathy: I hope you are feeling better today and that you can indulge in your last book and some nice steam! We are on the 3rd hot tub man now and I think he'll be the one to finally fix it. I bought a home warranty on a special deal for Realtors last year. It covers improperly installed parts (they don't usually). The previous company had put an inferior part in the hot tub and of course we didn't know any better. The good news is that the warranty company is paying to have our hot tub restored to its factory parts. Therefore, they had to find someone in their network that is authorized to buy from the factory. We are only paying $60. Not bad! It sure made the policy worth it! I bought it thinking our central heat and air might go out soon or the pool pump since the house is 15 years old now. Wow! Time really does fly. I'm melancholy missing J-P today. He flies to WI on Monday. The guy he did the web site for, Travis Rice, is in the X Games tonight 9 pm Eastern in the Snowboarding Big Air category. :yay:I can't wait to see it and I'm nervous for this kid I don't even know, LOL!

Good Morning, woke up to about 6 inches of snow and it is still going strong, so NO WORK FOR PONY TODAY!! YAY!! Of course I am now gearing up to hike down to feed the ponies...they have been hanging out in the hollow through the storm, and havent even looked up here, but I need to get them some food, so Off I Go!

Kathy - are you still sick? any better at all? Hope you guys didnt get this storm, although it appears it missed PA...its moving so slowly its hanging out over us for awhile!

Pam - I have researched the heck out of the belly fat thing too...mostly ads for companies wanting to sell you some sort of chemical filled supplements, so disregarded those...I have been taking 2 tsp of safflower oil every morning, and drinking my green tea, but no major differences to report. The interval training thing is really geared to folks in much better physical condition than I am...its very grueling and I think probably for folks who are not that overweight, but more interested in defining their abs and getting that washboard effect. I just figure that all the rest of the fat is going to have to leave before the belly fat decides to go along! And since I have about 40 more pounds I want to lose, I imagine I will be another year at this rate before my belly decides to deflate! My loss rate seems to be about a pound a week...no more, even with the exercise...sigh...have fun partying with your daughter and friends!

Carol - thanks for all the smilies! I am so incredibly happy not to be working today...slept in awhile after calling in to check the open/closed status, and now planning to catch up on my Bible reading list and be a "couch potato" most of the weekend! I would love to have a recipe to make 1g bread too...it would be so much easier for me to make lunches that travel well, if I could make a darned sandwich once in awhile!! I LOVE the Julian, but who can afford it on a regular basis?

Jocelyn - hope you had a nice time partying too!

Lisa - so glad your hot tub repair isnt going to cost you a fortune...the extended warranty things are really a blessing for some things...I couldnt see buying one when they offered it to me on my $29 toaster, but definitely good for things like cars, major appliances ,etc That $600 repair on my 3 year old Maytag washer taught me that!

Off to the wild world of snowy ponies! Talk to y'all later!

Robin: That warranty I bought is for the whole house. Quite a deal if anything major goes out. It covers ceiling fans, doorbells, EVERYTHING! I forgot to call them when our garage door opener broke. Shoot, I paid the contractor next door to replace it, lol! That would have paid for my policy. What a ditz I can be - just wasn't used to thinking about it. When the HVAC finally kicks the bucket, we will save thousands, I hope.

I'm glad you're getting the day off to read and catch up. I'm trying to clean out the cabinets in my bathroom by sitting on a stool. If I have to kneel, it's not happenin' yet. At least it feels good to get something done. Make up makes a big mess in the cupboards - yuck!

Hi, Ladies. I have been thinking of you even thought I have MIA. I have been working a lot. Getting to the office at 7:00 a.m. and leaving at 6:00. My eating has been pretty good. I have been good about take legal foods to work. No carb cravings so I am definitely on track.

Robin - I hope you are hunkered down and that you don't have to go out too often or too far. I talked to a client of mine yesterday. She is in the process of moving back to her home state - Alabama. Her mom lives in Alabama and has been here for a few days helping her pack. My client told me on Tuesday that they had to go back to Alabama for a few days because her dad was sick. Well, I assumed that they were jumping on a plane. Wrong. They are driving. I talked to her yesterday and they are stuck somewhere in Oklahoma because they got so much ice and water under the hood of her truck, the computer "brain" for the vehicle died. She said that for the most part, they were the only car on the road except for the big rigs. I told her that I hoped they were planning on staying put until it was safer to drive and she they are going to start off again as soon as the truck is repaired (assuming the roads are open). She said that at best, they were driving about 35 mph. Sounds a little too stressful for me.

I hope everyone is healthy, and warm if you are in the colder parts of the world. The sun is actually shining here today - something I haven't seen for a quite awhile. I took Halle (dog) out to the beach this morning and she had fun swimming.

I have a question for our legal eagles.
My nephew was arrested for having 15 lbs. of pot. (yes - 15 lbs.) My sister couldn't make it to my aunt's funeral because it happened the night before and my sister was a mess. He has constantly been in trouble for the last 10 yrs. He was under house arrest once for burglary. He's 25 years old and thinks he 'from the hood'. Meanwhile he grew up in a gorgeous house in Pleasant Valley and has been given everything he ever wanted. His sister meanwhile has her master's in speech pathology, is happily married and expecting her 2nd baby. Same household - 2 terribly different kids.
Here's my question - the night it happened my sister said bail was set at $50,000 and that she wasn't going to pay it. She hired an attorney and was crying that she was going to be paying for lawyers for the rest of her life. She said she wouldn't be able to go to court because she couldn't bear to see him in a jumpsuit in shackles. I haven't talked to her since then - only emails because she says she can't talk without sobbing.
Now she told my other sister that on Wed. in court he was released on his own recognizance and his court date is set for March. I think she used a bail bondsman and doesn't want to tell us. I sent her an email and said how does it go from 50K to 'we trust you, you can go home'. She said she doesn't know - maybe prayer. Is it possible for someone with a record to be let go own their own recognizance after being caught with that much pot?

Sorry to make it such a long story. But she has constantly covered for this kid and the worst part is he doesn't appreciate on bit of it.

Diane - I am catching up and saw your post. I don't practice criminal law but I suspect that you are right - your sister got him out via the bail bondsman. I will keep her in my thoughts - sounds like she needs it.

Hi, Kate! Good to see you! I'm getting tears in my eyes for these kids in the X Games. I always imagine how proud their parents are of how hard they have worked.

Thanks Kate. I think she is just embarassed about having to keep dragging him out of trouble instead of letting him suffer any consequences.

I am still loving the gym. Yesterday morning I went and did 1/2 hr. bike and 1/2 hr. treadmill. In the afternoon I went back and did 1/2 hr. bike and went to the 'cardio theater' which was playing Finding Neverland with Johnny Depp. I got there right at the beginning and stayed on the treadmill for the whole movie! I like Johnny Depp! ;)

Robin - I set the bike and treadmill to 'intervals'. It makes the incline go up automatically on the treadmill and the resistance go up on the bike. The screen looks like hills. I love it when the resistance goes down to '1'.

It is freezing out today! We had a surprise snowfall on Thursday. It was 2 inches by midmorning and then was gone by the afternoon. This winter the weather has been crazy.

I hope everyone is feeling better today.

Nell - good luck in your new home! That's wonderful!
