Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

Hi everyone!
Lisa, glad you got the hot tub figured out and thank God you didn't faint in the tub! I can't imagine 105*. I can only go to 103* max. Hope all went well at the "doctors (nurse) and at your therapy.
Robin, can you make me one of those ponie suits? That would look so funny, a pony in a pony suit :lmao:
Nell, if you find a good dip, please pass it along. Sounds as if you may be onto something we'd all like :woohoo:
Gena, good to see you!! Come back when you have time!
I haven't seen Bev either. Hope she comes back soon.
Tom, don't forget all the cool icons we have now!!
Went to the chiropractor for another adjustment. Had a new doctor, not sure if I liked him or not. He didn't do much to the knee, but did crack my neck and back. He has only been there a month, so he's a bit out of the loop when it comes to me. I go back in a week. He told me no brace, but I think I'll still use it, even if I have to take it off because of the bottom being too tight.
Ok, going to finish making my chicken "noodle" soup. I'm using tofu shiratake noodles. They are the spaghetti ones, but I don't care. It will still taste good.
I'll catch up later if I don't fall asleep first. LOL

I'm back from the doctor and xrays. My Bowen guy wants me to get the results first and that will be tomorrow. My blood pressure was 120/76 and resting heart rate low. They did an EKG - fine. My ankle could have a fracture and my knee might be torn. It has fluid on it. Xrays won't tell the whole story on the knee so I might have an MRI if it doesn't get better and I might have to have the fluid drawn off. Yuck. I'm kinda tired. Glad Tom's here and he can cook a few of our MM things. I taught him how to make his own frittata today. Miracles do happen! Oh, very funny. The nurse wanted to put me on disability. Yeah, right; I'm self employed. Just thanking God I didn't get hurt worse and have to leave my family. Tom would be lost without me. Don't tell him I said that, but it's true. He went to look for a movie for the long evening of icing the hurts and boredom.

Kathy: I wore a brace that other time on my ankle until I finally went to physical therapy. The brace was making it worse and he put me on ultrasound, electronic stimulation, massage and exercises. I was soooo much better after only 4 visits. That's why I went straight to the doc this time instead of trying to handle it on my own. I never really believed in physical therapy, but I'm a convert. They will send me if it's not broken. If it's broken I have to get a walking cast.

Ladies and Tom,

I will try again. First, let me say thank you for all the beautiful and thoughtful Christmas Cards. They were very much appreciated.

The last 6 months have been crazy to say the least. I think for now we are settled. My Dad has been in the nursing home a little over a month and is doing very well. I don't panic as often about him checking out. I think he realizes for awhile he needs to be there. I try to look at day by day instead of predicting the future. He is clean, fed, pretty content these days and I can't ask for more.

Needless to say I have been off the eating program since about mid October. I plan to get back Monday. I am on the tail end of a bladder infection. Tried all the natural things that normally work and finally went to the doctor.

I have a couple of questions. Is Julian bread still a freebie or a 5 x5? How much has everyone lost since starting? So many of you started in the summer.

Tom, hope y'all are not as cold. Tonight is suppose to really dip into the teens or lower. My hubby and I are having babies, calves and my Dad's cow's are dropping everywhere. It is amazing how mother nature takes care of them. We love round bales of hay, so much easier to feed than the square.

Lisa, I am so sorry for your fall. Thank goodness you didn't hit your head. I have done things like that and it happens so quickly. Just figure out what you can do and go with it.

Adios for now,
Gena

Lisa, sending you some hugs  I will pray it isn't broken. You took one nasty fall, that is for sure. I know what you mean about the self employed thing. I do have a supplemental insurance I pay on monthly. It is like AFLAC but is called Combined Insurance. If it happens that I get injured and can't work, they send me a check. My chiropractor is going to fill it out for the injury part. You don't need to not be working to get a check. One time when Tris was about 7 she wrecked her bike and busted a tooth, we sent in a claim and we got a check for it.
My original chiropractor used the ultrasound on my neck, and he did it on my knee last week. This one didn't know it I guess. He did use a different type of machine that kind of did a knocking on my knee. My knee doesn't seem to be bothering me so much tonight.
I will be praying for you and for Tom that he doesn't mess up the MM too bad :scared1:
My dad sounds like Tom. He can't do anything without mom. I don't know what would happen to him if she dies before him. I honestly think he'd drink himself to death :confused3

Gena, so good to hear from you! I'm glad your dad seems content where he is for now. I will pray that it continues. I can only imagine what a burden if feels has been lifted from your shoulders. It is so hard being a parent to your parent. Bless you for being such a good daughter!
I went off plan since around Thanksgiving. I just didn't pig out on everything like I used to. I started this WOE on Sept. 12 and when I went off plan, I had lost 23#. I was starting to really gain it back (10#) when I went back on plan on Monday. I have lost 7 or 8 of that already. The scale jumps a lot in a day. My size has gone from a 16 and I just got a pair of 12's around Christmas time. But they seem to be loose now too.
You will be so glad you are back on plan. It is amazing how much better you feel on it.
I believe we are all back on step 1 for a bit.
Don't forget about the recipe forum. I think there have been some additions since you've been here last.

Ok guys, I am going to post the recipes for the muffins and the cheese danish in the recipe forum. I am going to mark the muffins as "Better than Miracle Muffins" so we don't confuse them. I personally like these ones better than the original ones. It has gotten me through some though times this past week LOL. Almost caved this evening, but didn't. Making supper, I was craving sugar like crazy. I just kept busy, and kept thinking how good my chicken soup would be. It was, and then I had my chocolate 5x5. Now going to have my jello and whipped cream. That is my best treat I think. I absolutely love it!!
Ok, going to relax a bit. Catch up with you all later, but if I don't make it, have a good night everyone. Glad we're all back here! Missed everyone while they were gone. Welcome home again everyone :grouphug:
God Bless and sweet dreams.
Nell, hope you get some sleep tonight!!
Everyone who is to get snow and/or cold tonight, be careful and stay warm. Our snow has just started about an hour ago! I need pony snowsuits!!!:lmao:

Kathy, Tom brought home Greek salads and a suspense movie. He can't mess that up too bad, lol! He's been good about getting my ice going.

OMG Lisa I'm glad you didn't faint in the hot tub. I guess no Zumba for you for a while.

I so need the recipe for cheese Danish, oh yum!

Gena welcome home!

Hi everyone.

Gena, it's good to see you. I'm glad your back with us. You too Tom! And Laura, we missed talking with you all of the time. :) I too hope to hear from Bev soon.

Kathy, I'm glad your knee is getting better, but please keep being careful.

Lisa, I'm so sorry that you got injured so badly. At least the mystery is solved and we know it was a normal reaction to the heat and not a new medical problem that caused you to faint. I agree with Barb that god was definitely looking out for you. As much pain as your in, it could have been much worse. I'm praying for both you and Kathy to heal quickly.

Pony, your having a quiet day. Are you working long hours? I'd be glad to take the rest of your vegetable shakes if your sure your not going to be using them. Let me know and I'll send you money to send what you have left of it. No sense in wasting it and I like that stuff.

I'm doing pretty well today. I'm been very relaxed and sleepy. A down day. I feel as if I am healing in so many ways. If I spend just the ten days on step one, that will allow me to start on two on Monday. I'm thinking that makes more sense for me. My challenge I believe is going to be continuing to make vegetables make up 50% or more of my meals. It's easy with the smoothies. I was reading today that making smoothies with vegetables in them makes it a lot easier for the body to absorb the nutrients because the blender does a better job of breaking down the vegetable cell walls. I might start making blended salads. Supposedly they taste just like a salad but your drinking it. If I'm going to eat all these vegetables I want to make sure I actually absorb them. I think I'm starting to be on a serious health kick. Kind of weird, but I'm feeling better all of the time.

Well, I hope everyone has a lovely sleep tonight. Many blessings and hugs to all! :grouphug:

Just a gentle reminder to make sure any meds you may need to check the carb content. ;) Hope you're feeling a bit better today!
Tom sounds like he MAY have things under control. LOL He is such a sweet man. Just don't tell him I told you that, don't want to hurt his "man" ego. LOL

Where is the recipe forum I can't find?

I posted it a couple pages back. Here they are:

MUFFIN: (this one is better than the other muffin one, I think)

1-2 tsp. butter/coconut oil (i used 2 tsp and butter)
1/4 c. ground flax (I used 1/2 flax and ground pecans)
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 egg, well beaten into melted butter
1-2 packets of splenda (I used 2)

Melt butter in ramekin. Beat egg into melted butter well. Add ground flax, baking powder, and splenda. Mix. Add in any type of flavorings/syrups you may want. You can also add a bit of small chunks of cream cheese. Microwave 1 minute. Enjoy!!!

CREAM CHEESE DANISH:
3 oz (6 tbs,) softened cream cheese
1 egg room temp (I mircowaved a cold one for 10 sec. in a cup to warm it)
2 packets of splenda
1tsp vanilla

Mix all ingredients. Put into a Pam sprayed ramekin. Cover with waxed paper and microwave 2-3 minutes. If too "eggy" just use whites.

You can also add the following:
1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1 tsp vanilla (french toast flavor)
1 tbs lemon juice or lemon zest (lemon cheese cake flavor)
1-2 tsp strawberry extract or s/f syrup (strawberry cheese cake flavor)
you can make it plain and "frost" with: 1 tbs cream cheese, 1/2 tsp cocoa and 1-2 packets splenda
1 tsp orange extract and 1/2 tsp. cinnamon (orange spice flavor)
1 tsp cocoa, 1 tsp vanilla and a few granules of instant coffee (mocha flavor)
**You can triple the recipe and put into a 5x7 pan and cut into 4 pieces, wrap and freeze. Then just microwave when you want one.

Good morning everyone. Not sure if it is here or not. Still snowing, and I hear the roads are bad :(
Nell, you got me to thinking. Instead of putting my veges in a blender, I can use my juicer, and then just put my vege juice in the blender with everything else and make a smoothy. I can save a 1/2 gallon milk container perhaps or get a glass one (I know when you juice, you should use glass.) That would make it really easy. And I can juice the whole vege, skin, seeds and all! I will just need to figure out what to mix with it so it doesn't taste bad. I absolutely love juicing an apple, 1/2 grapefruit (pink ones), 1/2 carrot and a bit of beet. The carrot and beet are sweet like apples. Maybe I'll double check the book and see if I can have beets. If I do beets, cucumbers, celery, and something else like spinich, it may not be too bad.
Well, have to go clear the van out of the snow :( Thankfully it's only an inch or 2 so far.
Have a great day everyone!!!
Oh, Kate, had a dream about you last night. Had a dream you were on TV for something brave you did. That's all I can remember. LOL

I posted the recipes in the recipe forum. :)

Jocelyn, do you want me to post your pancake recipe also? I saved it if you want me to.

hi Nell hope all is well :) stay warm can still snow in Florida

love to everyone I'm still trying to get caught up so sorry if I haven't said hello to everyone.

Thanks Laura - it's always a challenge getting everyone to want to dress up and look nice (no problem with the girls), and then to have ALL the kids smile was fantastic. Parker (youngest) took his best picture ever this year! He hates the camera and will cry if it's not sissy taking pictures of him. BTW, you m'dear look fantastic!!! How much have you lost...if you don't mind me asking?

I'm struggling right now as I still have family functions happening and no time to prep for myself. I'll get there. I can still wear my 28s but they are tight in the waist...big time!

I just need to get back in the swing with my exercise. It's so hard with all of the kids! You'd think I'd be able to do more with the teenagers around, but it's actually opposite since they've got their own thing going on and need to go here or there.

Lisa - I'm so sorry to read of your fall. You scared me!!!!!

Going to try to catch up on some reading this a.m. I'm hoping for a slow work day, but that never happens...:surfweb:

Hi everyone!! Computer was running really slow with my attempted replies last night, so I gave up.
Nell, SNOW? That would be awesome for you! I can send you some of ours if you need more LOL. We are to get another storm system coming in this afternoon/evening. They are saying 6+ inches. I hope they figure out a better idea of how much before it gets here!!
Not much going on here. My knee is feeling much better, wore the knee brace yesterday at work. I did take it off a couple hours before I was done though. I have to go to the chiropractor this evening. My appointment is 3:30 but I need to call and make it a bit later. I am still putting my rice sock (I keep it in the freezer) on it as much as I can. When I get home from work, I sit in the recliner with it propped up for a good hour. My housework is getting a bit neglected, but oh well at this point.
Ok, have to get ready for work. Long, long day today. Have to work tonight after the chiropractor appointment :(
Nell, I'm so glad your body is healing itself. Even if it is a bad type of blessing. I don't miss that part at all!!
Have a great day everyone and I'll try to catch up later.
:grouphug:

Kathy - I'm glad to hear your knee is a little better. My housework is getting neglected too...wha'cha going to do? Sometimes, it feels good just to not do everything, right!!!

Hope you are having a nice morning!:lovestruc

No, Kathy, we've had our hottub set there for over 10 years. I get too cold any lower. It's weird, but I guess there's always a first time. We have a blower in out hot tub so it gets a lot of air forced through, which makes it colder if it's not running hot enough.

I'd love to have our hot tub at 105 but Jeff can't even step into it unless it's cooler than 102. In the summer he likes it at 98...not too hot but I guess it has it's advantages...no fainting!!!!:scared1:

Hope you are having a peaceful morning!

Still trying to see if I can post.

Gena

Hi Gena - I've been having problems posting too. It tells me I'm not logged in and when I try to log back in it has been telling me that my log in id and password aren't correct so I have to redo everything. Hence why I haven't had time to post. Looks like you are on again too :):thumbsup2

We have Combined Insurance for Jeff too. It's wonderful. It's about $100 per month but definitely worth it. He had to go out on disability for surgery on his ankle and they sent us a check for him being out of work. Without much of a hassle either!
