george herbert walker bush

The "few idiots" still believe that their own fears should be our fears and that we should be as "idiotic" as they are.

BTW my middle name is Renay.... I should not be voted for because my parents didn't know how to SPELL it!! :lmao:

My mom, Lynda, is in the same boat...her parents couldn't spell either. :rotfl2:

So your argument is:

Obama "might like" two quotes, according to you.

(Insane leap of logic)

Therefore, Obama is Marxist?

Um....yeah I'm not really following you there.

You hear one thing when you hear him say, "we will roll back the Bush tax cuts and tax the rich". I hear something else.

I've got to say that I agree with Dawn. Hussein is Obama's middle name. Sure, I understand that it's a muslim middle name, but how brain dead does a person have to be to not vote for someone because of a middle name. My thinking is, the people who won't vote for Barack because his middle name is Hussein are the same people who would never vote for him anyway. IMO, Obama should embrace it, and tell the public how ridiculous those who think that they can make a shred of difference in the upcoming election by calling him Hussein are really being. Those who think that it'll somehow sway the vote have zero respect for the intelligence of the average American citizen. Yes...I'm looking in your direction, Mr. Limbaugh...

:thumbsup2

I wish I had a dollar for every 'Hussein' I have met in my life. The name "Hussein" in the Mid East cultures, is like "Joe" in the USA!
:confused3

However.....I would keep the "Sidney" on the hush!!!!!:lmao:

See, we agree. He is your guy or he isn't. What his name is, shouldn't matter. Now how do you feel about Obama praising "John McCain's half century
of service? Is it a not so subtle way for him to remind us that McCain is 70+?
Is it agism?

When people are saying, "Barack Hussein Obama" they are trying to invoke the pathetic fears in people that he is somehow tied to Muslim terrorists.

Comparing that to George Herbert Walker Bush is comparing apples to oranges.

Well, probably more like comparing Granny Smiths to Red Delicious. Both intend to evoke some response based on the name. Both are unfair. But one, the latter, is downright ugly.

I don't know, Sen McCain likes to talk about Obama's inexperience, so is that ageism as well? We have all heard Sen. McCain proudly proclaim on the stump that he's "older than dirt, more scars than Frankenstein, but I learned a few things along the way." What are you gonna do. McCain's old. However, I think that as the campaign goes forward, you'll see a lot of artificial posturing on both sides, taking offense at certain quips about age and/or race. It's all part of political gamesmanship.

Hmmm, might be. But, it serves him right for the theatre he/his campaign staged in Cincinnati with Willy Cunningham. Yes, it was theatre. I know who McCain is hanging with here in Ohio and that kind of thing is child's play for them. Willy Cunningham didn't know he was being set up but he did figure it out later and loudly complained to anyone who would listen. John McCain has that Reagan stammer down pat and it makes him seem so honest..... He made his deal with Rove years ago and now they(the Rove 'go to' boys) are helping McCain. Agism is the least of our worries. Rove's little neo trainees are out there in full force.

Agree again, and I must say, it is what makes it all so entertaining! ;)

Well that's a relief! I would hate for McCain to turn down Rove's help! McCain wasn't my first choice, but it looks like he is my date for the prom so I am going to dance with him.

I think it's only agism if one is trying to imply that his age will cause him to be a poor President. Like he's senile or something. Age is a legitamate concern as far as his likelyhood of dieing in office. True, anyone of any age can become ill and die suddenly, and there is always the posibility of assastination of any President. But becoming ill and/or dieing is more likely of someone 70+ than some one in their 40's, 50's or 60's. Should it be the deciding factor for voters? No, but it is something to consider along with everything else we use to judge a candidate.

All that said, I don't have a problem with his age, I dont' want to vote for him for other reasons.

I'm not an Obama supporter even though I find him to be a good family man that also appears to be a decent human being as well. You don't have to be a Democrat to acknowledge this either.

The only thing I don't care about the whole "Hussein" name thing is the fact that some think a majority of us are stupid and will buy anything they peddle as an excuse. I have gotten the spam emails detailing how Obama is a secret Muslim, Manchurian candidate, blah, blah. I get what some are trying to do when they emphasise his middle name and to be truthful, I don't have too much of a problem with it. After all it is politics and it has always been a dirty game and most likely always will be. Memo to all that use this tactic:

If you're going to use his middle name and emphasise it as a fear tactic to play up the Muslim angle, then have the courage and the common decency not to lie to my face. None of this "wink wink" stuff either, just come out and tell the truth because most everyone knows what you're doing. Just like those pictures that were released last week that had ties to the Clinton campaign and Maggie Williams playing coy/innocent with her statements. I don't care for all this innuendo and denial. Obama and his campaign staff should be prepared for more of this and tackle this issue head on because this isn't going to just fade away, IMO. I'm waiting for the next round of these emails to pop up in my inbox.

I would be too concerned about Obama. His campagin seems to be a pretty formible machine. They produced and aired a response to Clinton's "3 o' clock in the morning" ad almost immediately. They've hit back hard at just about every attack from all angles and amazingly continues to gain support. It's thrilling to watch...almost like he's the un-Kerry.

What do you have against Red Delicious????? :confused3

It's the subtle Communist reference, isn't it?????? :rotfl:

I only thought that his full name was used sometimes to not confuse him w/his father. I wasn't aware that Herbert Walker were anything other than middle names.
That was my thought at the time as well. Hardly comparable to using the full name of someone whose first name and last name are already unlike any previous representative or candidate. :confused3

There is a huge difference in using the Bush's full name and Obama's. People that use the name Barack Hussein Obama are playing on the irrational fear this country has of Muslims. People who used George Herbert Walker Bush - and frankly, it was used very little - were trying to evoke images of wealth. Two completely different things.

You know, I agree with what you are saying but I have a different conclusion. It's not completely different things. It's exactly the same thing.
I absolutely do remember democrats making a point to use Bush 1's full name whenever possible. And I felt strongly at the time that they were trying to use his name of evidence that he came from wealth and could not relate to the common man and therefore would make a terrible president. When anyone said anything about this practice it was implied that the democrats were doing nothing wrong, they were just using his name. Why should he be ashamed of his name? Why shouldn't they be using it?

With Obama I see the same thing. But the republicans have joined the Clintons in doing it this time and for the same reason. They are trying to say that because Obama's middle name is Hussein he is different than most Americans, and although he isn't a muslim now he clearly comes from them, and I'm guessing they'd also like people to feel he is sympathetic to their cause. And they are doing the same thing again, acting like they aren't doing anything, just using his name. Why should he be ashamed of his name? Why shouldn't they be using it?

Yes, I see this as exactly the same thing. Political parties (and individuals) using men's names to infer something about them to the public. Whether it's true, or fair, isn't the point. They are just out to win.

Yes, this is exactly the same thing, IMHO.

My parents are 70 plus years old and I love them to death, they have over the years, missed a step or two as they breached the 70 mark. That is a legit concern for voters, if its not, it should be. A mans name being hussein should not be. And I am sure as sure can be that it WILL be a sticking point for a large number of voters in this country.

What does that mean? Isn't a Muslim now. Sen. Obama has never been a Muslim.

As for "he clearly comes from them" - I don't even know how to address that.

Why should he be ashamed of his name? Why shouldn't they be using it?
I doubt that he is ashamed of his name, what gives you that idea?

Most Americans don't refer to themselves as "Firstname Middlename Lastname", they go by "Firstname Lastname". Are we all ashamed of our middle names?

Everyone has their own preference as to what name they go by. If I go by Penny, have a website called "PennySmith.com", etc., and some people find out my birth certificate actually says Penelope, and start calling me Penelope, I would think they were wacko. ;) Why on earth would someone take it upon himself to make changes to the name another person goes by? :confused3

I wouldn't go so far as to say they "shouldn't" be using his middle name, but in any other situation I don't think you'd get much support for calling me Penelope "because that's her name".

John Sidney McCain

Anybody heard of him?
