General safety concern…!!!

It looks as if the 13 year old sister is making a post for the 7 year old. I guess mom is watching (fredascrapper with 4 posts to her name.)

I never knew about the COPPA that you speak of.

Who knows? Like I said though, not in a million years would I take a chance.

I have an opbservation and a question.

Observation: It seems to me that the parents who are members of the DCL DIS section are close with their children, take time to communicate with them, and are active in their child's lives. Should a child post on here, I am thinking that the parents, who also post on here, would be reading their child's posts and know what is going on (we read each other's, right?).

I also think we, the other grown-ups on here, would also be reading these posts and would intervene on the parent's behalf should we see something that seems fishy (I applaud jfs9900 for doing just this). Thus, we can probably be a little secure about minors posting on this board specifically, because we are one community that looks after each other's well being. I see jfs' post as someone who saw something out of the ordinary and decided to raise the alarm for the rest of us to be on the look out. This is another reason DIS meets are good, since we can look out for each other.

Ok, that was wishy washy for both sides, but I think you get the idea. :)

Question: What was the controversial post?!?? :p

CRB#33 was correct with the post that first concerned me.

If you search the profiles of the three users they have all just recently registered with the board and only have limited number of posts. The profile for “liloandstitchkelly62” clearly has hobbies and the birth date included.

I am not suggesting that DIS Board be responsible. I think as a community – if we find these posts they should be closed – or not responded to. I think DIS Board should be responsible for insuring that only people age 13 and ODLER are registered to the board.

You can get more information about the COPPA law at http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/coppa.htm

jfs9900 - I do not see anything in the link that prohibits anyone under 13 from being prohibited in registering at the board (I read it pretty quick so I may be mistaken). I think it deals more with disseminating personal info of anyone 13 or under without attempitng to contact said parents first. From reading your last post, it appears that you are suggesting that the DisBoards not be open at all to anyone 13 and under. Let me say in advance that I am sorry if I mis-read the link or did not interpret you last post correctly. I personally would hate to have to comply with the regulations within this link although I can understand the reason it was introduced. - Mike

Points here are well taken, however they really do not apply to a cruise related question. I understand the original poster's concern about children, but again, this is off topic for a cruise board.

If you wish to discuss whether or not children should be allowed to use computers and post on bulletin boards I would suggest going to the debate board.

The thread is strange.

The subject line says "me and my friend are 7", yet the post seems to be made by a 13 year old sister. This 13 year old has one post, has an avatar and a signature and writes in the same style as the mother (fredascrapper).

Thank you again jfs9900 for your concern.

A word of caution for everyone: it may not be that easy to pick out questionable threads. There is a young girl on another cruise meet thread asking to meet up with friends. Actually, I would imagine that there are many threads like this. It's been watching this thread over time that I have noticed that this girl has been the one making all the transportation reservations, has been the one in contact with the travel agent and has said that her parents don't have anything to do with these things. I find that very, very odd. But the posts by this girl were nothing out of the ordinary at first.

She may be exactly who she says.

She may not be.

She's not meeting my child.
