I've read a few times that current members will first crack for add ons when (and if) CRV is sold. Now my question is this, at what point is a room "sold".

As an example, say I buy an add on for room XYZ is that room now closed out and not available for sales to new members?

Disney does not work on a selling system that sells rooms or particular units for set weeks. It is a points system and although your deed will specify which unit you own part of you can book at any of the resorts. There are a specific number of points for each unit and when that number is sold it is considered sold out. An add on would be a number of points for the resort you choose and would probably have a unit assigned to it. Once they sell all the points that the resort can possibly book in a year the resort is sold out. When it comes time to make reservations the unit you own has no bearing on it. The resort you own is your home resort and you can book at 11 months to 7 months from the check out date before people who do not own at that resort if there is availability.

Thanks, that was my initial thought however having a unit # on the deed confused me a bit.

As a DVC member, you own a deeded interest in real property. You own a particular percentage of a particular unit in a particular DVC resort, which is a leasehold condominium, for a particular period of time.

Your ownership interest is symbolized as points for purposes of administrative convenience only and for no other purpose. Points are merely reflective of your ownership interest.

That said, your unit doesn't come into play most of the time.

Also, a unit is not necessarily a 'room'.
At SSR for example, most units consist of a cluster of rooms, usually 3 or 4 2-br 'rooms', or possibly 1 GV.
