General Advise Needed

I haven't been to US since 1992 and I don't even know if DFiance has ever been there. I barely remember being there . All I can remember is the back to the future ride and ET. I'm sure we went on other rides but I don't remember any of them.

I need general advise on what to do and see while we are at US/IOA in January. We plan on adding 2-3 days there before or after WDW. It's just me (26) and my fiance (28). We love rides, all of them. And everything else for the most part.

What is not to miss? What should we avoid? What about food? We like good food, I would generally rather have a sit down meal than fast food. And what are these mugs I keep reading about?

Tickets? I'm thinking of getting at least one AP for the discounts but I'm even confused about that

IOA was not there when you went in 92.

many attractions and rides have been added since you were last there.


i can give you my opinion of the food places but it might differ from others. we all like different things.

city walk would be new to you also.

boy, you have a lot to cover in 3 days when you go !
it's going to be like a brand new adventure........


do universal last and stay on site.
it's the best and only way to go!

Spiderman (IOA) and Men In Black (US) are great. You should be able to see/do most everything pretty easily in January in 3 days -- and take time to enjoy the details. Some of the IOA rides get you damp to very wet (don't know if they tame them down in Jan) -- so be prepared for that. Kong is gone (sigh). Some people claim they can "do" both parks in a day, but I think they're missing a lot -- maybe just going for the big rides. In Jan, tho, one day per park may be enough -- but lots of things can be enjoyed many times (esp. Spiderman). Have heard rumors that Back to the Future is being closed.
Read all the info on the universal web site -- you probably won't need the Express Plus Pass.

Since you prefer sit-down restaurants, IOA/USF make it pretty easy for you. IOA has two sit-down eateries. You have the casual Confisco's by the park's entrance and the majestic Mythos in front of Poseidon's Fury. Mythos is as good a dining establishment as you will find in any theme park.

USF's sit-down restaurants aren't as unique as the two at IOA but Lombard's Landing (think wharfside restaurant) and Finnegan's (Irish pub) do what they do well. With the exception of Mythos, you may find yourself better off at one of the many Citywalk eateries (like Emeril's place or the surprisingly good NBA City).

DH and I loved NBA City. I think I had a religious experience eating the cinnamon strawberries. DH said it was the best dessert he had ever eaten, hands down.

The Hard Rock Cafe is my favourite place to eat in City Walk, but I'm a music nerd. If you don't want to eat your meal over loud music and have the distraction of a revolving Cadillac then I'd suggest going elsewhere. I've also eaten at the NASCAR Cafe and that was really great. Motown was pretty good too. Emeril's is supposed to be another decent place but I've yet to eat there.

In IOA there's a place in Jurassic Park that's not necessarily a restaurant, but when I had the chicken and rib combo plate I was in heaven. It was sooo good! I really couldn't believe it. I think the place is called Thunder Falls Terrace, but I could be wrong on that. And it was two or three years ago, so things could have changed.

As for tips on the parks, just have fun! Bring a change of clothes or wear a bathing suit if you intend on going on Popeye in IOA (and probably Rip Saw Falls, or the JP River Adventure too). Bettlejuice and the Blue's Brothers are really great shows (I didn't see Ghostbusters) in USO that you should try to see if you could.

look it over and you will see the food places in the parks
also sent city walk guide.

you should get them by monday at the latest.
hoping it arrives saturday though.

there are so many great eating places, it is difficult to name them all here.
the guide will state the type of foods at each place.

i really like the ribs and chicken at the enchanted oak.
like fried chicken in amityville section at the studios.

always eat at finnegans, ts there.
i've had most of what's on the menu there. never a bad meal for us.

for burgers, we like richters.

flame tree next to enchanted oak was great for gyros and dogs. it was closed during hhn time though.
lombards has great food.

for ioa, mythos hands down.
just a few that come to mind right now.

wish i was back at universal.

i love them also.


ghostbusters bit the dust some years back. twister took over where they were. the ghost busters meet beetlejuice review also bit the dust.
now that was a great show !! it was done outdoors in the newyork section.

blues brothers still there and wowing the crowds.

thunder falls terrace is an excellent choice !
