Gene Pitney was one of my favorite singers while I was growing up. He passed away. Gone, but not forgotten.

they were talking about it this morning on the radio. They said he had just preformed a great show before he died. Thats really sad.

Compared to many of the early 60s performers, Pitney was pretty talented.
He hung with Phil Spector, and he wrote some big hits. I was not a big fan, but have respect for anyone with that much talent. :)

For those not familiar with Gene, one of my favorites was done recently by Cyndi Lauper and you can hear it here:

Click on the letter L under ARTIST and scroll down to her name. Click on it and then look for the song I'm Going To be Strong, it's about the ninth one down. She did Gene Pitney proud with her rendition.

Other songs by Gene:

1. (I Wanna) Love My Life Away
2. Every Breath I Take
3. Town Without Pity
4. Hello Mary Lou
5. (The Man Who Shot) Liberty Valance
6. Only Love Can Break a Heart
7. If I Didn't Have a Dime (To Play the Jukebox)
8. Half Heaven, Half Heartache
9. Mecca
10. True Love Never Runs Smooth
11. Twenty-Four Hours from Tulsa
12. That Girl Belongs to Yesterday
13. It Hurts to Be in Love
14. Lips Were Redder on You
15. I'm Gonna Be Strong
16. I Must Be Seeing Things
17. Last Chance to Turn Around
18. Looking Through the Eyes of Love
19. Princess in Rags
20. Backstage (I'm Lonely)
21. Nobody Needs Your Love (More Than I Do)
22. Just One Smile
23. Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart
24. She's a Heartbreaker
25. Yours Until Tomorrow

I was shocked and saddened to hear of his passing this morning. A true great of rock and roll.

'Town without pity' was one of my favorite songs. :sad1:

I've always been a huge Gene Pitney fan. Just listened to his Greatest Hits CD.
Wonderful songs. He was on Bandstand many times.

I was really sad to hear this today, he was one of my favorites. His music brings back many good memories!

I am so sad. We went to a benefit concert in Hartford last year, and he was amazing! I grew up with his music, and was taken back in time for those few hours. I will surely miss the Rockville Rocket.

Anyone else from the New England area remember his Calvacade of Stars? It was very similar to what was shown in the movie "That Thing You Do." It generally consisted of new singers who only had one or two hits; not enough fan base to fill a venue individually yet, but when you combined them they could.

I do not remember this, but I remember Brad Davis show on Saturday night, I forget the name, but we called it the Milk Show. Anyway, FF, there was a time many years ago Gene Pitney had stopped performing, BD had a morning talk show on WDRC, and kept trying to get him to return. He got downright rude because he could not shame this performer into appearing for him, and BD kept referring to the Milk SHow, and how GP owed CT.

I always felt bad that this nice man could not live in peace until he was ready to appear.

I heard this announced on the radio yesterday. I have one of his Greatest Hits LP that used to get a lot of workout on my turntable.

Thanks for the music, Mr. Pitney.

I hadn't known this, thanks for mentioning it.
