Geeks go for broke! Updated 2/17: Wrap-up

Ohhhhh.. don't press her... she's trying to keep up with us on 2 other threads!!!:rotfl:

Alright, alright, I'll post! Sheesh! Let a girl have her tea and rum cake, will ya? :rotfl:

Seriously, I am working on it and promise it will be done very soon. In the meantime, your comments.....

To fund those 3 cruises in 18 months no doubt! :lmao:

I must admit, I am jealous....

Which three cruises are you speaking of, BTW?

I know you "accidently" tripped over the re-booked desk and they held you against your will until you booked two on this latest trip... but where does the 3rd one come in?

We have the Tortola 9/12/09, a 3-day on the Wonder 10/29/09 (for a wedding!) and the EB Transatlantic repo in April 2010.

I know, is that all? I'm having heart palpitations thinking about paying them all off.....

We're World of Warcraft geeks (I know! I know! Don't hit me!) but DH is more of a all around game geek than I am. He hasn't heard of it, but I think the only card games we've played are Munchkin and ..... Lunchmoney?

Hey, I know a certain somebody *cough* Sarah *cough* who MAY be a WoW geek herself, so there will be no hitting of the MMO folk. We're playing Warhammer right now anyhow, so we can't say anything! Lionel is a huge fan of Lunch Money AND Munchkin! Haven't heard those names for a little while.......ah, memories.....

Erica, have a great time at DAK! Who do you write for? I enjoy your writing style so much! Looking forward to the next installment of your TR! :thumbsup2

We did, thanks!
I write for a back pain website and a Parkinson's website right now, though I can't guarantee it is very riveting reading for most of the people here! But I like it. Besides, I get to do my fun stuff here for free :thumbsup2

Here...

I wouldn't want you to break a sweat... :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Where's the drooling smiley?

In all seriousness, though, I wholeheartedly believe it is impossible to be GRUMPY on that boat!:thumbsup2
(So what if I'm drinking the pixie dust koolaid!);)

We feel the same way! :goodvibes

Hooray! None of us are boring but we're all definitely geeks! :rotfl2:

We had a great time with Erica and Lionel - they're terrific people and very funny. :goodvibes

Feel free to share the story whenever you want, Erica, because we all know that it's liable to be January by the time I get around to posting a Tokyo Dining review on my food porn thread. And it's really your story more than it is mine or Jay's to tell.

Love the picture, by the way! I see that and think: tremble in fear tasty treats! :lmao:

And I also think that Jay and Lionel may have been separated at birth. ;)

Awww....
I might just tell that story.......one day.......

Ok, as promised........

The longest breakfast ever on a day at sea!

Before we went to bed the previous evening, we had set out our menu for the champagne breakfast, which was part of our REAS package. A little bit later, once we had passed out into an alcohol-induced coma, room service called and woke us up. See, we had set our breakfast time for 7:30, because for whatever reason I cannot sleep past the crack of dawn on the boat, and what better time to have some champagne? When I’m still tired and hung over from the previous evening, right?

That was a joke. Sort of.

(see what you miss if you don’t get up at ridiculous o’clock?)

Apparently, the breakfast could not be ready before 9:30 am, which in retrospect doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me, but since we are easy going folk who were still mostly sleeping, I told her that would be fine. I incorrectly assumed that our coffee carafe, which we had scheduled early on in our trip to come every morning, would still arrive at 7:30.

I was wrong.

After looking at the beautiful sunrise from the balcony for as long as I could manage without caffeine, I made the call.

“Hello, room service? You would be wise to deliver us some coffee. NOW.”

It was up in mere moments, either because she sensed the distress in my weary voice or because I accidentally cursed her out the night before for calling at such an obscene hour. Now I was free to enjoy the morning in peace.

Look how pretty it is when you are human again......

We passed the time until breakfast sitting on the verandah, drinking coffee, reading, perpetually passing Cuba and occasionally venturing inside to watch Lilo and Stitch. Lilo and Stitch is one of those movies we always have to watch if it is on. Does everyone has those? Other ones on our list are: Footloose, The Princess Bride, and Legally Blonde. If any of those movies come on in the Lionel and Erica household, we must watch them in their entirety, pausing only for the most dire bodily functions.

How I spent my first morning at sea.....

Cigarette butts, coins, articles of clothing, small children......is nothing sacred?

Not one to be up if he doesn’t have to be, Lionel laid on the couch for a nap while I lounged out on the balcony. Which is where I discovered that our room was right above the stabilizer fin! I had been wondering what the occasional whirring noise was, and NOW I KNEW.
I became obsessed with these fin after this. Any time I heard the noise, I ran out to the verandah. I would call to Lionel “the fin is out!” and he would reply “sweetie, that’s awesome!” while secretly thinking “hey, if that keeps her from planning our next three cruises already than so be it…..” Sometimes I called Mat and Sarah to update them on the status of the fin.
I even told my dad all about them when we got back. He said “sweetie, that’s awesome!” I’m guessing Lionel coached him for my sake.

It takes a discerning eye to spot the fin.....do you have what it takes???

After what seemed like an eternity, but was in fact only an hour and a half, our breakfast arrived. Since the REAS includes most full breakfast options, we ordered a little of everything……which is apparent when you look at this photo.

Please sir, may we have some more? We seem to not have burst our pants yet.

I tipped the poor soul who brought this in the room very generously.

Yep, that is an omelet for each of us, two orders of hash browns, a pancake, some bacon, toast and fresh fruit.
Oh, and mimosas. Can’t forget the mimosas.
Well, we ate more than we should have, but even so we felt a little bit guilty for ordering so much food and not finishing it. I know, I know, it’s a CRUISE, that is what you are SUPPOSED to do……but I still felt a bit sheepish.

I’m fortunate that Lionel did not take a picture of me trying to get that tray out into the hallway, because it wasn’t pretty. At all.

Hey look, honey, it's Cuba! Again!

We were still passing Cuba when we left for our 11am spa appointment, which coincided with the Castaway Club reception. Aren’t these usually held in the afternoon? Well, regardless, we were not about to forgo pampering for an overcrowded reception, no matter how many sodas and rice crispy Mickey heads they tried to bribe us with. Mat and Sarah brought a few back for us anyway, and I am proud to say that of the four they gave us, I ate four of them. Never let it be said that Erica is a waster of sugary snacks.

Our Rasul was wonderful, and just as lovely as we remembered. One thing though: while the steamrooms in the Magic’s Rainforest Room seemed cooler than the Wonder, the Rasul steamroom was seriously hotter. So serious, I nearly burned my tookas trying to sit on one of the little benches. I think I still have red marks.

Our mud was also very watery, which we found a bit odd. In retrospect, we could have saved a ton of time by just pouring the bowl over each other instead of trying to slather it on all nice and neatly. By the time we were done, the floor was dotted with tiny little mud splotches and it was getting dangerous to walk without the spa slippers.

We did have fun trying out all of the Elemis products they left, like the face masks and the body washes. Though one of them smelled remarkably like eu de old lady. Hmm.

Feeling refreshed, we headed up for lunch with Mat and Sarah at the buffet, where they told us a tale of a Castaway Club reception so big it spread over two venues. We asked Mat if there was any news of the new ships.

Mat: (excitedly) yeah, the Captain said that one of them will be done in 2011, and one in 2012, isn’t that awesome that he told us that?
Me: wow, you were privy to that exclusive information, huh? (bleeding sarcasm)
Mat: yeah, cool huh?
Lionel: dude, she’s known that for about two years.
Me: (nodding and chuckling)
Mat: oh…..

I’m pretty sure someone patted his shoulder and told him it was ok. Someone has to do that to Mat a lot.

After lunch, we were back to our favorite spot in the Cove Café for more card games! This time, we played Ticket To Ride, which is a card version of one of my favorite board games of all time.

Ladies and Gentlemen, ignore the politics taking place behind you......

Unfortunately I was not able to reveal my true supreme awesomeness at this game because we were quickly coming up on tea time. But I think we all know who won that game, now, don’t we?

Yes, me. In case you needed a hint.

Up next: tea and scones, tally ho! And we get “the call” – dun dun DUN!

What room were you in again???

I may have been over the fins too... :thumbsup2

That's cool about the fin!

Thanks sooooo much for all the details you're posting about the REAS...I think we're going to order a TON of food for breakfast, glad to see we're not the only ones who like to stack that tray HIGH!!! :thumbsup2

Really can't wait to hear what your high tea experience was like- I have it booked, but I keep flip-flopping about whether or not to go...:confused3

Ellen

ps- what board game is Ticket to Ride a card version of?

pps-Another great relaxing feet photo!!!

Idiot question here, but since I have yet to embark on our DCL cruise, here goes:

What the heck is that fin? What does it do? Why is it so special? What is the meaning of life?

(Just ignore that last question...sometimes I get a little carried away!)

THe 'fins' are stabelizers and keep the ship steady so you have a lovely ride!

Ellen, tea is ESPECIALLY enjoyable if you do it with a group...at least I really enjoyed mine as much for the socializing as the tea. We had a fantastic batch of scones at our...according to the Brits. And if there are particular sandwich bits or desserts that you like, the will bring you more.

Erica, even though I OWN Princess Bride, yes, I must stop and watch it whenever I run across it. AND I just did the same thing for Legally Blond last week!

Can't wait for the next installment.

Don't forget to ask them for some veggie sandwiches... those were incredible!!!

& the Lemon Tiramisu... ;)

Gotta love those sea days! Cute toes and I am glad you got such a kick out of the fin!

It was having those two booths side by side that made Tea so much fun!

another great installment!

sorry to hear the rasul was not as good as on the wonder :sad1: but i hope you still had a good time:love: ... :rolleyes1 (finally got to use that smilely!)

:worship: Thanks for another awesome installment.... :thumbsup2

I am afraid of "The CALL"....

Thanks for the TEA advice- I will remember to eat my fill of scones and veggie sandwiches and then some!! I don't think anyone on our thread is doing the tea besides me- but I'll ask again. I am all for the more the merrier!

Thanks,
Ellen

I just found your thread today and have read it all and must say I have been laughing my butt off!!!! I see that you will be on the ETA 2010 and have to say I hope I meet up with you somewhere as you seem to know how to have a good time. My DH and I will be going and so far it sounds like lots of people our age (nice switch since last time it was an Alaska cruise and we were darn near the youngest). I want to say thank you for brightening my day with your wonderful wit. :rotfl:

Okay, my dad has Parkinson's and I have back pain... it's totally fate that I should read EVERYTHING you write. Maybe you should send me grocery lists too. :)

Hey Erica... what ever happened to your novel?
