Now - wait a minute! If I lost my job: the house, the cars, the bikes, the underwear gets auctioned off before I willingly depart with my DVC!

Here is the scoop: We have 150 pts at BCV. BCV is FANTASTIC - but we do not want to stay there! We bought in when there was only BCV to be had and had no ideas of these boards / resales / demands we could place on DVD / etc! I walked in to this only with a love of WDW vacations and what DVC had to offer. Past that - I was lost!

We tried all the resorts (almost all) - love em all - but love OKW more - it is where we want to vacation! For us - nothing else comes close!

People tried to talk us out of this! But - we only want to stay at OKW and I got burned the last 2 years not having the 11 month window! In addition - I want to say we own OKW - if we plan to stay there for 30+ years (primarily) I feel we should own there (pls stop and read disclaimer which follows)!

NOTE: I am not making ANY accusations with the last statement - no resort wars should begin! The rules of the game are fair and what we have all accepted going in! If you own at xyz and want to stay at abc - god bless you! You are a DVC owner - you do what fit's your lifestyle and point budget! Truth be known - I would own 700 at each of them - but my budget allows one and only one! All I am saying is this: We love OKW, we want to stay at OKW and I want to say I am a proud owner of OKW because I can only afford one and we love it so much.

This is the right decision for us - more importantly - I think it is the right time (due to many factors I will not explore)!!

The current "spread" 'tween the resorts is about $20 per pt. We would be happy to exchange our 150 at BCV for 150 at OKW - but I am thinking we will walk away with 170 to 210 pts (especially if we get a front-loaded contract and can rent 2010 pts out to help with the up-front expense!).

A question to those more point savvy then I: Should I spend MORE money and get multiple contracts? Is that worth the money? Or - do I stick with one?

Let me say - I have one son and one daughter who will eventually inherit this thing! These 2 are the best friends in the world - one is 19 in College - the other 16 in HS. Things change - but I know these 2 and their personalities and I never see the friendship ending (I am very lucky in that regard!)! As a result, I see no issue with joint ownership!

Since you cannot split existing contracts, I would certainly look into buying 2 near equal contracts for future possible inheritance for DS and DD.

It does seem that with the lower OKW dues, you may be better off paying a little more up front...

BVC 150s have been going for $75-85 with neutral points typically going Close to $80 so by the time you pay sales commission you would net $72.
OKW 150s have been going for $60-70 with neutral points typically going Close to $65 so by the time you pay sales commission you would net $59. Now 200+ contract have been going in the low 60s and sometimes much less.
I would be surprised if an OKW owner would swap for more than $14 considering that they are going to have another 2-2.5 in transfer costs if the swap is done as a package deal.
IF you are in it for the long hall you might want to try to swap for a 2057 OKW contract, you will not get much back (maybe 5) but you would have a much longer contract.
Just my perception as a "frugal" member.

I mis-spoke! Based on my discussions / research: I agree the the spread is closer to $14 then the $20 that I quoted for a '42 to '42 contract.

I also realize the '57 contract will set me back more and potentially will limit this spread further!

Info I did not provide: Since I banked pts last year and we had no Orlando plans in 2010 I will be selling (when listed) a front loaded BCV contract! That should help me some.

Great points though - thanks to you and hake!

JMHO, and comparing 2042 OKW vs. BCV, I fail to see the advantage in selling BCV for OKW. There are only a few cents difference in MF's. OKW is readily available for booking at 7 mos.( other than GV's). For the money you will make buying OKW at a cheaper price, you will give it up paying the 10% commission when selling. Why buy smaller contracts when you've already said your kids would be happy sharing one contract? Other than owning where you love to stay, I find no other credible reasons to sell.

You may never see your children as anything but best friends but spouses can change that, get seperate contracts if you can.

With full banked points if you are take you time you should be able to get $83 which will net you about $75 plus your paid 2010 maintinace fees.

I would go with getting two contracts and spend the extra in closing, if you need to.

This way, you know for sure that each of your children will have a contract and as others have said, you just never know what could happen down the road (ie: bankruptcy, divorce). Jointly owned assests can be at risk in these situations.

With the difference, you should be able to end up with possibly a few more points.

We bought in at VWL last year with the plan to add on at BLT this year, the resort we really wanted. Well, I added on only 5 days after closing on VWL, and ended up realizing in two months, that I wanted to just own BLT so I could take advantage of the 11 month window. So, I sold VWL, took a loss, and re-bought at BLt. The best decision I made and am very happy I own where I want to be.

Good luck!!!

BINGO: Two years in a row I was shut out of a GV and had to go with different options! In 2008 we had to say to relatives - wait till next year! In 2009 we settled for a 2-Br and a Studio......

Just curious, what's your use year? Another thing to consider is the useage value of the points. 150 points gets you more at OKW than BCV. That's great for you. We own at OKW and love it. Stayed in a GV mutiple times. We just stayed at BCV for the first time in March and also loved it.

If leaving OKW for your kids is an important consideration, make sure you are looking at contracts that expire in 2057, not 2042.

Other benefits include the "close to HH" booking category, possibility of getting a 2057 ending date at OKW, and the ability to book ANY room during peak demand periods like December.

If OKW is where you want to be every year, It seems like the inconvenience is minimal when compared to long term benefits. :thumbsup2

I thought people only bought OKW and SSR so they can take all the rooms at BCV at 7 months??? ;)

> Let me say - I have one son and one daughter who will eventually inherit this thing!

We've been OKW owners since 1995 and love our home resort. We were BWV owners from 1998 until this past February. Nothing wrong with BWV, but we liked OKW more of the two and with our kids now 23, 20, 20, and 17 we were not needing as many points for bigger units or vacationing together as much as they have school, jobs, etc. We also came to the reality that they may be in their 30's before they settle down and 1) want and 2) can afford a DVC timeshare. Twenty-somethings have lots of things on the to-do list that outweigh Disney if they have to pay for it themselves. I'd caution you to buy only what you want and worry about gifting DVC to the kids for much later. If you did want them to have something, then you could buy two equal contracts and put one on one contract and the other on the other contract with you as owner and they could eventually have them via inheritance. Don't do that unless you think you'll use them for the forseeable future or you may end up paying a lot of maintenance waiting for them to "want" it for themselves.

The Timeshare Store, Inc.® would love the opportunity to help sell your Beach Club points. If you need any information please email us at sales@dvcstore.com.

Thanks and hope the sale happens quickly and hope you find your new Old Key West points quickly.

You may never see your children as anything but best friends but spouses can change that, get seperate contracts if you can.

Spouses can and do change everything. Plus, siblings are most likely to come apart when it comes time to settle the estate no matter the size of the estate.
