DGC Waitlist success stories- let's hear'em

I got a 3 night long weekend in a two-bedroom in late January after only having the waitlist out for a couple weeks. It can happen! The fewer the number of nights the better your chances. 1 is bedroom also likely your best shot.
Awesome! Where at?

I was too slow when I originally booked my 5 day trip. I waitlisted the first day (a Wednesday). The next day I was able to book the next four days. About a month and a half before the trip my waitlist came through. I was checking A LOT to try and snag the day but I never saw it in the wild. I'm staying at the Grand Cal for the first time on Wednesday!!!

Just got a waitlist for my wife's birthday - moving from theme park view at Bay Lake to theme park view at Grand Floridan! She's very excited!

I’ve had short waitlists come through a couple times. But, I’ve also booked at 7 months multiple times. The trick with VGC is that you don’t decide your dates & try to book it. You see what’s open in the calendar & book your dates accordingly. If you can be flexible it’s much easier to get something.

My home resort is not the Grand Californian in Disneyland. Booking at 7 months is basically impossible. What about the waitlist? Has anyone who doesn't have the DGC as their home resort had any success from using the waitlist? If so, enlighten us all with the tale of your victory!

When you say "impossible" do you mean studios, or anything?

I was able to book a stay at VGC at 7 months out for peak summer. No waitlist or stalking.

But... it was for 1BR (least economical) and included (more expensive) weekend nights.

When booking that at 7 months out, VGC only had 1BR units available and VDH only had preferred studios available. Our preference was for VGC and for a 1BR so it worked out great.

Technically, I didn't have a waitlist request come through quite yet, but I have been stalking the site regularly the past couple of weeks and finally an accessible 1 bedroom at VGC opened up this morning for 3 days at the end of October. Not the ideal room type, but I snagged a day to add to the other day we found at VDH, so I have at least 2 days of our trip covered. First time headed to Disneyland this fall. It's just the husband and I so I don't mind switching rooms for this quick trip. I'm just happy we will have the opportunity to stay on property and experience both resorts! Truly Grateful 🧡

Tried to book a deluxe studio at Disneyland Hotel exactly at 7 months online for 2 nights early December but was only able to get 1 night. We had to go on a waitlist for one of the nights and also booked a cash room for the one night we didn't get the DVC reservation. ($960 wow) just in case the waitlist never came through.

I just got a welcome home email so I knew the waitlist came through. Since this was my first partial waitlist I wasn't aware of having to call DVC to ask about combing the 2 reservations so we could stay in one room for the 2 nights. DVC came through in 3 days.

One time about 6 years ago, I had a cash reservation at Paradise Pier for Sunday to Thursday. I planned to stay at an airport hotel on Friday night and fly home Saturday morning. About 2 months out, I saw that the parks were going to be open to midnight Thursday night. I decided to waitlist VGC studio for Friday night. In a couple weeks, it came through. So I decided to waitlist Thursday night, it came through in a couple weeks. Then I waitlisted Wednesday, it came through about 3 or 4 weeks out. I called Member Services to combine them. I didn’t have points left to try for more nights. The bigger problem was Paradise Pier. I called reservations and they would not allow me to shorten the reservation to checkout Wednesday. They said ask at checkin. I had only paid one nights deposit, so refund wasn’t an issue. When I checked in, they went to the manager and he allowed it.
